The Change

Hello there, and welcome to my very first blog entry ever on allisonmack.com. This whole computer and Internet technology thing is very new to me, but I am excited to finally be stepping into the 21st century and utilizing all the amazing opportunities that now exist to communicate with so many people and share tons of new thoughts and ideas. To me, that is one of the most beautiful things about the Internet. It really allows us the chance to get to know people from all over the world and truly see the humanity in everyone.

So I have decided that for my blog, I will present a quote a week. The quote will be what inspires me to write. I will basically be sharing what the quote means to me, and I greatly encourage all of you guys to share what it means to you. Something I find so fascinating is the endless amount of perspectives one can get on any given topic or idea. So I will give you my perspective, and I hope that you feel open to giving yours.

OK here it goes…

This was said by one of the greatest peace leaders of all time, an amazing man filled with so much wisdom that he was able to triumph over one of the most powerful countries in the world without ever lifting a gun. It is interesting because this has been a favorite quote of mine for several years now. I have walked around saying it and attempting to live by it without ever really taking the time to sit down and figure out what it means to me. It seems so simple; just act in the way you would want to see others act, but I find that this is one of the most difficult things for me to do. I am always reluctant to take responsibility for the way my actions effect the rest of the world. I am the first person to say, “Oh well, it’s only me in this big world. How is my behavior going to shift anything?”

But the incredible thing is that if everyone in the world took Gandhi’s advice and became “the change,” I truly believe we wouldn’t have the problems that we have today. I know that I am always so mixed up with the external that I forget the only way I will find peace is if I take the time to know and understand it in me. The only way the world will even begin to understand compassion is through each individual. So essentially, the responsibility lies within each of us. I find this to be a much more exciting option than all the others. I feel a sense of empowerment when I recognize that there is something I can do to change things…and so I will focus on honestly being the things I wish to see in the world. I will dedicate myself to living with compassion, joy, and understanding, and my greatest hope is that the rest of the world will mirror this action. Yay! Hope for humanity!

So there is the “quote portion” of the blog…now onto Smallville news…

We are just weeks away from finishing our sixth season. It is so crazy to think that I started this show when I was only 18. I am going to be a quarter of a century old this year! Wow, that feels very strange. This show has been my college experience; what a wonderful place to grow and change. It’s funny, but the people I work with really do seem like family. I feel so very blessed.

As we embark on our sixth hiatus, I can feel the energy from everyone start to diminish. It feels like the end of a very long sprint, and everyone is ready for a water break. Hiatus always comes right when we are about to fall over with exhaustion, and so the whole team will go our separate ways and come back refreshed and rejuvenated, ready for another year.

It’s funny, for the first month and a half I have off, I don’t even want to think about Chloe and “Smallville,” but about a week before we are supposed to start shooting, I always get this jolt of excitement and I feel like I can’t wait to know what is going to happen next. I guess that is a pretty good indication that I love what I do. It is sometimes hard for me to believe that I get paid to do this. I am so stinkin’ lucky. I haven’t booked another job for the break, but there are some interesting prospects, and it is always nice when I can spend the summer tooling around the world and doing some lovely “introspective sessions.”

    I`d love to think that the world worked this way and maybe to a point it does, gut gandhi couldnt keep inda together, see in the end i feel that we all do the best we can but power is really out of our hands to have power to really make the world the way you want it you have to be someone but to become someone you first have to act the way they want, actors are some of the few people who can be the way they want but(and i say this and please know i love alison not in a scary stalker way but you get what i mean)they have people who work for them who fix things for them. The people who dont play the game but get things done have a horrible habbit of gettin shot

    I liked your text about violence. When I think about these kind of problems like POVERTY end VIOLENCE, that makes me so sad! There are many problems in Brazil, specially the violence, it’s a consequence of poverty. People who daesn’t have any food, job. They are excluded from society and because of this they become violent persons. I’d like to know a way to help people from my country. I think the best thing we have to do is try to find the peace inside us. And love the other as we love ourselves.

    Wow, now I am impressed. It is not often that a celeb such as yourself is so down to earth as to create a blog in which to chat with her fans. Nor is it common to find that said actor/actress to be so intellectual and thoughtful. Hello, I am a big fan from Syracuse NY, currently serving overseas in Iraq as a US Army medic.     ah so about that quote, as I’m sure ur getting tired of people fawning over you and guys like me trying to get you to marry us, lol. I guess that quote more meaning to me than I first thought, now that I’m taking the time to consider your words. I being a soldier, made that choice to be a change, to take up the mantle of protection for my friends, my family, and my country. It wasn’t the money, oh I wish it were that simple. I knew people in the towers, though I live 4 hours away. I was a sophmore in HS when it happened. And on that sad morning, I knew what I had to do. My mind was made up right there.

    I’m not refering to monumental changes, cuz those are often, difficult and thus worthless. But its the little things we never notice. Take a letter. I have seen the greatest good come from a simple piece of paper. A student takes the time to write to a soldier deployed. the morale from that letter is so strong, no civilian believes me. The soldier is instantly healed of all his internal emotional and psychological wounds and he immediately performs better. And it’s infectious like the flu, and soon everyone is doing better. And just from being out of that funk, it might be the one thing that lets them survive the worst events waiting for them tomorrow. I have literally SEEN it save a soldier’s life, to receive a letter from home, no matter WHO it’s from.

    Another one that I can apply is I hate how pop culture demeans women these days as objects to be had. I’m old fashioned, especially for a 21 y/o and I take great pride in being known by my female friends as the nicest guy they know towards them. Doesn’t get me far in the dating game (nice guys always finish last), but I still am proud of it. And I know the change I make when I do that.

    So yes, I can say I agree and follow that quote Allison. And I very much appreciate you allowing me to share my thoughts with you. Sincerest Always,

    Before you laugh at this comment, please know that I’m completely serious and honest about what I’m about to say. I have to admit I think it’s a bit cheesy myself, but it’s burning inside me for some reason and I really need to say it. Know that I’m not a child either. I’m a 27 year old man with my own successful entertainment resume.

    Well, to start…man I feel stupid writing this… Whatever, here goes…

    Well, I had a dream about you last night. And for some reason you were sad and crying. I don’t remember why, but you were heart broken beyond words. I felt extremely bad for you when I woke up; like something that happens to someone and the effect takes a toll on another person too. I physically felt pain in my chest…a deep sorrow.

    After I got ready for the day (dressed, etc.) and was on my way out the door, I thought to myself, “This is stupid. I probably just had a dream about someone from ‘Smallville’ because I enjoy the show. I’m sure everything’s okay. Besides, even if I did try to contact her she’d never get my message anyway. And if she did some how, she’d probably think I’m some idiot that has a crush on her.” (Just for clarification, I don’t have a crush on you. That’s lame.) So I just wrote it off and went about my day. The pain went away and my mind was at peace focusing on the tasks at hand. But then the weirdest thing happened. Later in the day, out of no where, the pain and concern came back. I was doing whatever I was doing, and BOOM, sorrow set in again.

    Allison, I have no idea what’s going on with me, but if you get this message, and if something’s really going on inside of you, I pray that you find peace. That’s all I intend on sending to you through this message. I hope that you follow your heart and face the challenges that discourage you. I hope you continue to learn that your purpose is far beyond acting – that you’re purpose is showing others who you are without explaining why, and loving it. I hope that you wake up everyday and see the beauty in the world around you. I hope you never take for granted how peaceful a gentle breeze can be. I hope you find love from people who truly love you, not people who want to take advantage of you. I hope that the pain and disappoint of life will continue to push you forward so you will know when true love comes along. I simply hope you are happy and content in your heart.

    Allison, I have no idea who you are, nor may I ever. All I know is that you’re an actress in a show I enjoy. But one thing I do know is that everyday we all give something back to the people around us. Today I guess it’s my turn to give something to you. It’s amazing that after feeling grief for you for some reason, I still have the choice to encourage you through a letter. I’m glad I’ve chosen too, because I know after doing so, whether you get this or not, I still tried.

    You know, it’s also pretty cool that after not knowing how to contact you I found this site; and it happens to be about uplifting others. I’m proud of you. I hope you continue to read every email and return every call (if you already do so). Don’t get me wrong, I understand you’re busy; I’ve been a pretty big success myself, in the music industry. But one thing I’ve learned is that no matter how many fans I have, or how many songs I write, nothing beats a letter from someone telling me that they believe in me and want me to continue to know that I’m valuable.     Just wanted to say i’m loving the site and find it really interesting to hear what you have to say. I love Smallville and you are the best thing in it and thanks for taking the time to do this.

    Tempting as it may be to leave my e-mail i won’t as i know there’s no way you could answer everyone who does but i’ll keep visiting and enjoying what you write.

    As i’m in the UK, we haven’t got the Sixth Season of Smallville yet so i keep re-watching the first five on DVD and patiently waiting for Six to start, we usually get the new series in Jan but this year it’s taking longer for some reason but i think it starts in June or July.

    Nice to see your site, always great to see input from the person the site is about and not just a corporate thingy… Chloe’s awesome… interesting to see/read the Allison side also. And wow, 442 comments in here… and from so many countries… well, I’m in Melbourne, Australia. hanging out for next week’s Smallville. So lucky you are to be in Canada, my sister just got back from there. She was lucky and got to work on movies for some time and even met Michael Rosenbaum (she stopped him from getting on the set of Kickin it Old Skool (lol) cause she thought he was a stranger). And even I had a guy Eric Banz come over for dinner on Christmas with my sister – awesome novelty I guess – he came all the way to Melbourne with her. Enjoy your holiday.

    I recently had a mentor say the exact same thing to me. You see, I’m a year from graduating high school. Unfortunately, I have about a semester left to apply for colleges and decide what I want to do for the rest of my life. I had e-mailed a lady I met in California over the summer (her living in Florida and me being in Texas makes real life interaction kind of hard) asking about film schools and internships and whether that should be the road I take in life. I told her about how my parents once said “Liberal Arts? Film? What can you do with that?!”, and how those comments have greatly affected my decisions. I told her how I wish to use film to educate children and do documentaries and travel while I’m doing it so I can touch the whole world. She quoted Ghandi. And that little quote has said so much. I have started to live by that, just being the changes I wish to see in everyday life. Teachers who are rude to me, condescending (hah, spelled it right the first time!) and absurd, I just smile back at and wish luck to. I’ve revamped my personality, and have learned that to have others accept me I must accept myself. I wanted to see a change in how I looked at the world, so I started riding my bike to and from school and everywhere that didn’t require me getting there in five minutes. It’s amazing what a little time outside can do for you. It’s a pretty amazing thing, what one quote can do for you, and how it can apply to your life. I know these seem small, but if I can make it a habit, a lifestyle, then when the time comes I know I’ll be able to apply it to MY work.

    I’m happy to see that you’re human, and that you accept it more than most people who aren’t on TV shows. I must say, within a few minutes you’ve gone way up on my respect scale. I thought you were a good actress before, but now I believe you’re a good person.

    Oh, and it’s ironic that you’re just being ushered into the virtual world in real life don’t you think?

    Hi Allison, Since you are such a talented and resourceful young actress, I would like for you to help me with so very important information. I have several gifts that is out of this world. I at times can control the weather, heal people, even brought my dog back to life. I have manipulated nature and my brother’s dog gave birth to three puppies with one blue eye and one brown, when it wasn’t possible for her to have puppies. I have watch what I wish for or ask for or even think about, because this supernatural power pops up out of no where and surprises even me. Allison, this is not a joke. I am dead serious. Some who know just the little bit of power displayed have tried to brand me a prophet, a psyche, and one woman suggested that I was abducted by a UFO. I don’t care about people’s opinion of me. All I want is a friend who can help me find the answer I seek. The worst thing that happened was this: It was Christmas morning when I was going to email my relatives a good Christmas wish. I found out that AOL had cancelled my service for no legitimate reason, since my account was paid up. I got so angry, and said to myself, ” A psunami should hit that part of the world and kill two to three hundred thousand of them.” I was referring to the East Indian people, because they were the only ones I had been in contact with during each technical problem with AOL. I didn’t know that within a few hours a psunami actually took place in the exact area I had projected within my mind and killed the amount of people I had projected. I am deeply hurt about this. I don’t believe a human has that kind of power. Allison, the supernatural power in my life started since my childhood. I have to watch everything I say and do, because sometimes such things will happen. I even see the future in dreams months and years ahead of the actual events. Two episodes I saw in dreams have happened and in my dream what happened to Clark was applied to me. This year, I had thought the last episode of the last season would be shown to me, but it didn’t this time. Instead, New Year’s night gave me another dream connected to your show SMALLVILLE. The only thing I saw was a card in my hand. It was read, and had the name Clark written four times on the front, and the name Clark written on the back only once.
