Happy Thoughts…

Let the beauty we love be what we do. There are millions of ways to kneel and touch the ground”
by Rumi

God, I love Rumi. I think he is my all-time favourite poet and philosopher.

So… I apologize for my massive hiatus. Honestly, I have been feeling a little lost recently. I dont know if I am totally alone in this feeling, but the past month of my life I have sort of felt like I have been skimming the surface; just sort of floating through things and not really committing to anything. This plays into all the areas of my life.

I don’t like this feeling at all. Last week, at work, I had the most bizarre experience. For the first time in my career I totally zoned out at work. Thank God for Tom Welling, who reminded me very gently that we are there to tell a story and he wasn’t really sure what I was telling that day. His beautiful and loving feedback really helped to snap me back into reality. I suddenly thought “What am I doing? I have the most awesome job in the world. I work with people that I adore, and I get paid ample to do this.”

It’s so easy to get caught up in my head space of what I don’t have and where I’m not, that I forget to recognize the beauty in what I do have and where I am. I have decided to make a list of the things I love so that I can remind myself of the details in my life that I’ve been ignoring recently.

Who knows? Maybe we have some things in common. Ok, here goes. I love:

  • ice cream
  • laughing
  • friends
  • movies
  • warm wool socks
  • getting into a hot shower after being out in the cold rain and feeling my toes defrost
  • art
  • books
  • taking an amazing photograph
  • touching down after a long flight in a totally new country
  • movie previews
  • good acting
  • overatures at the ballet
  • bows at the end of a performance
  • my nephew’s bounce
  • when my dog scratches his nose on the ground
  • hitting a scene just right
  • hearing my best friends hour long messages on my machine
  • flowers
  • when the sun breaks through on a rainy day
  • amazing alliterations in Tom Robbins’ novels
  • my boyfriends cooking
  • going to an art opening
  • walking down the street, with the leaves changing and my arm wrapped around someone
  • singing

Ok…wow, I feel better. It would be so cool if you all tried this and commented with your list. I would love to see the things we have in common! Thanks for listening to me vent. I so appreciate all of you! oh and hey!!!!

Oh, I won a Teen Choice again!!!!! So cool, right? Maybe this year I will get a surfboard!

Ciao for now
Allison

Your blog is a perfect example that I was trying to convey to a friend earlier this week. We were both weary from the responsibilities of the day as students and politics of a healthcare system in the US that is a maze of tightly interwoven problems. It is easy to get lost in a sea of helplessness. I told him it was okay to be unhappy or lost sometimes because there is a difference between happiness and joy. It is these little things that we love that everyone listed that remind us that life is truly a precious gift.
    My joys are:
A Saturday after a big exam with nothing better to do than
sleep in and watch movies and tv under my warm fuzzy
covers all day long (looking forward to next weekend).
Sitting on the back porch of a log cabin in the middle of
nowhere slightly chilled in a sweatshirt on the perfect
    autumn day (that was yesterday).
Having music come out of my head to fit the words on paper so
perfectly that I know it was somehow inspired hoping that it
    could inspire someone else.
To steal a quote from the Ultimate Gift movie, being with “…the
people I love who love me who love each other.”

I doubt anyone will read this since I am the…219th!..person to respond, but here goes nothing:

I was sitting in the dining hall today at my wonderful college and I looked over at numerous fliers advertising social events and volunteer opportunities and sitting beside them was a bottle of water. The bottle was filled with dirt, soap, and nasty gunk, just overall bad news. On the label it said “Can you imagine drinking this?” and I had to admit…no. I have never had to fight for safety, worry about the well being of those close to me, or search for supplies for survival. And as I looked down at the bottle of dirty water to my right, and then glanced to see the pristine cup of clear, cool water on my left, I realized that I am one of the luckiest people in the world. So here are some things that make me happy, or at least make me appreciate life:

    Drinking clean water

    Seeing my mom smile

    Standing below thundering waterfalls

Snuggling under my quilt with a warm cup of Earl Grey

Being someones shoulder to cry on

Realizing the world is sometimes exploding with color, and appreciating it just as much when it is every shade of grey

Listening to that amazing song that has been stuck in my head all day

Drinking milkshakes with friends after football games

    Having heated political debates

    Catching a moment on film

Finishing a challenging top rope climb

Watching a squirrel decide where to bury his nut

    Being a Whittie

    Eating Thai food

Laying by a fire while my family passes around the guitar

Knowing I am safe, loved, and free

LOVE to you and to all.

  • laduka

hi !!!!! it’s great…… I love you very much and wish you joy ,happiness , laughing and all dreams come true….. love you very much

  • Lasia

I know this is a bit late, but congrats on the TCA!

I love reading lists of things people absolutely adore. It makes me realize that no matter how much I feel like I’m a complete outsider, there’s always SOMEONE out there who feels the same passion that I do about something — for example, music. My life would be a blank canvas without a way to express my feelings through my music. If I didn’t get choir every other day, I’d explode. If my friends were absolutely horrible and told me to shut up every time I started up in a completely random chorus of ‘Misery Business’ by Paramore or “The Wizard and I” from Wicked, I’d curl into a ball and hide in the corner. Life – music of any kind = not worth living, in my mind.

In a small town, it’s hard to find others who feel this way: my choir is full of apathetic people who only take the class to get out of first hour Government or to say they don’t have homework in a class. There have been possible three devoted people in my choir in three years — one of whom graduated last year. It depends on me to carry the alto seciton,a s I’mt he only one that sings. It’s depressing; but without it, I’D be depressing. Catch 22.

Now I feel like I’m rambling, so here’s my list:

    Things I Love:

Picking out songs on my guitar

Learning to play songs form my favorite musical ont he piano, just from listening

Writing editorials for the school paper

Publishing fanfiction for others to read and recieving positive feedback

Recieiving feedback on those stories telling me ways to improve my writing and plotlines — This is probably even more fufilling than getting “OMG, I loved it!” reviews.

Belting out a song in my best friend’s car, with her singing right beside me

    Watching a brand-new episode of Smallville — : )

    Making fanart

Buying a brand-new pair of shoes

    New socks

Debating about my favorite shows and characters with other people who can give me a great way to look at it from their point of view

Cracking the spine on a brand-new book

    The smell of vanilla cappuccino

Spending Saturday afternoons bowling with my friends

The scenery in fall when I drive home from school — Everything is orange, red, brown, gold, and occasionally, the slightest hint of green.

    Halloween and Christmas

    Bonfires in November

Reading the last page of a book I’ve been waiting to read for weeks and closing the cover, reflecting over what I’ve read and what it means

I could go on forever listing all the things that put a smile on my face, but I’ll refrain myself.

In the meantime, please keep up the amazing work you do on this blog.

    –Lasia

Wow its hard to think of a list of things I like but here I go

Singing – always makes me feel good and its my passion in life
    Acting
Reading every book on my very long “To read list” (still not done yet never will be)
    The smell of the ocean
Sitting on the beach alone late at night and listening to the waves crashing
    Roleplaying online with my friends
Making fanart/fan videos and getting comments from other people on them-gives me a warm fuzzy feeling LOL
Being able to help my customers at the bookshop find what they are looking for
Writing my book and being proud of it
The silence when I am alone
    Hugs from my mum
    Watching movies of all kinds
Having a movie night with my girlfriends

    I think thats enough LOL
    thanks for the challenge Allison

I know this was posted sometime ago, but I have just had the chance to read it. I know the feeling of being lost… I have recently been in a runt myself, I have been wanting to get away from everything for some time, and i think fate is trying to tell me to go if you don’t mind me relating a story. Last night after talking with my girlfriend about how I feel she grabbed a jones soda, she choose one bottle over the other after thinking about the photo on them for some time, I later went and grabbed the other bottle. Now everyone knows jones puts little comments uner the cap, mine said quite clearly, “Hide for a few days.” It is my thought fate is telling me I need to readjust myself and my life. So I know how you feel.

I’ve been exceptionally lazy and have only just gotten around to reading this entry in full. First off, I’d like to extend my sincerest thanks to you: I read your entry and was inspired to take a few minutes out and really give thought to all the things I have to be thankful for and that I love so whole heartedly. My list is pretty much endless, so I want go into details, but I appreciate you putting this issue forward when I myself was feeling a little lost. I guess all in all, we all have so much to be thankful for, and you’re lucky to have been reminded of this. It’s just so incredibly refreshing to see that even you have these issues every now and again – it makes me admire you all the more that you’re so willing to open up and allow endless feedback (God knows you’ll eb getting plenty from me). I also thank you for your support of the fair trade movement. I myself am learning more about the movement and become passionately devoted to it; I’m looking to start a campaign within my local area and am hoping to slowly turn public opinion around.

Amazing how we actually seem to share some intrests. Smallville has really been going well I presume. Change in a good thing but it has its faults. You site has become for bright and happy. So was the other version however you seem more proffesional with this layout. Hmm… curious how one such as yourself feels about the characters of Smallville? I find Clark Kent under trained. His fighting abilities are faulty and need serious work. Without Cloe Sullivan he would be completely lost it seems. Your character brings a more human and realistic essence to the show. The other characters are good but they aren’t as human as they should be. They all have the essence of a comic character to them. Keep up the good work. If there is somthing that shouldn’t change it is the devotion you have to your roles. Pardon my grammar I am rather exhuasted at the moment. Keep up the good work.

    Hi
I think that this is a brainwave really in that direction, how we can value the periods of our life really.and to notice the good one in the bad minutes.I tell you thank you for having shared this with me.

I like it: to think to write while I gaze at the moon, to read single good Chloe and Clark fanfiction, hugs, to look my best friend in the eye, to feel if somebody is proud of me, watch tv with my family, his falling fragrance, to listen to the whistle of the wind night, to be audible the rain knocks at the roof, flowers, to laugh, to walk homeward from a party with my friend, listen the good song in my mp3player: Madeline Peyroux,Missy Higgins,Remy Zero or Lifehouse song, to tickle my sister, to give it a smile to stare at a stranger on the street ,if a stranger smiles at me on the street, gaze from the school bus the into nothing, snowflakes fall on my face, to watch a good old film, to finish the writing of a new fanfiction, to look at the funny photos on the shelf, exhibition, to clap a play, to see my grandma’s smile, to take my mommy’s hand, ect…

    Thanks Allison!

I feel better already!big hug for you!

    Hello Allison.

I just wanted to tell you that, for one, you are the first actress I’ve even actually written to. (yay me!) And for two, I watched you on Honey, we shrunk ourselves! when I was younger and I loved your character. It’s funny, because I realise that besides that movie, Smallville is the only other thing I’ve seen you play on. :P I feel silly. I was very excited when Smallville first came out and Chloe was outomatically my favorite character. Haha, wich is very different for me, because, I usually like the main characters of any and all movies. Hehe, but I am so similar to Chloe, that I guess, I feel a connection with her. I’m very glad I found this blog and also very happy you went for Chloe instead of Lana’s character. You make Chloe very real, and I love that about her. Now, on to my list!

    Things I Love:

    Anime

    Japan

    Reading (mostly fiction, romance/historical/misteries)

Writing (i’m in the process of writing a book)

Camping (I love the scents and sights)

Swimming (I love water, believe it or not, it’s the one place that makes me feel “beautiful”)

Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream (my weakness)

    Black Licorice (love it)

    My Cat Ashes (my baby)

Singing (starting a band at the moment)

Drums and Guitar (in the process of learning how to play them)

    Making People Smile and/or Laugh

    Cooking

    Computers (I love technology)

Dancing (I can’t “actually” dance, but I do try)

My Family (They make me who I am today)

Tom Welling (He seems like such a nice/funny guy)

You/r Characters (I love watching you on screen, but I find it even better when I can come online and learn about you yourself, not just the fictional people you play on tv)

Climbing (ever since I was little, I’ve always loved to climb things…which is odd for me, considering I’m more of an indoor person, and I’m scared of heights!)

And Last but Deffinately Not Least, I love God, and anything I can do to help out anyone in need, or simply anyone I can. For, if there’s someone out there that needs me, I would do anything I possibly could, to get to them and give anything I could give, to help them. :)

I hope you read this, and I hope to write more to you. Thanks for reading Allison.

    Hi miss Mack,
turning 14 has made me wonder what the future holds. I would think that living in Australia is very different that America and to one day save enough money to go visit all of you great people on the other side of the hemisphere. Something that none of my family or friends know is that i love to act. Being a girl who has more guy friends than girl friends, and being a little shy, is what makes me unsure of telling my family and friends this secret of mine. So as i write this, and thinking of the things that i love that i will write, is making me realise that i have some things in common with acting and or the film industry. As this is the first time that i have every really sat and thought of the things that i love it might be a little long, so please forgive me.
    . Family and friends
    . Watching a good movie
    . Hot days
. Cold winters infront of the fireplace
. Watching the leaves fall in Autum
. Seeing someone accomplish something great
    . Reading
. Acting infront of the mirror
    . Taking long walks
. Love that everyone is loved
. Love the fact that every person in the world learns something new every day
    . Basketball
    . Seeing others happy
    . Completing a challenging task
. To one day travell around America
. Learning how movies are made
. Having a moment to relax
. Having a good joke with friends
. Knowing that someone will always listen to you
. Repeating lines of some of my favourite shows/films
    . Being surprised!
. Love to memorise the lines of some of my favourite quotes by famous people.

Thankyou miss Mack for giving me the opportunity to share with others the things i love.

    going to college

    travelling

    ordering take out

    watching a movie

taking good photographs or really funny ones

spending time with the people who i love

to read a really good book

to do things which make me smile

    singing

    being on a stage

    snow days

    laughing until I cry

    christmas time

it good to remember all of these things.

    Dear Allison,
Since 2005 i’ve been hooked to your show smallville. My best friend molly asked me if i’ve heard about smallville. to be honest I haven’t before molly mentioned it, but ever since then I’ve been so hooked. In fact I put down the first three seasons of smallville on my christmaslist last year (2006). I was extatic when I was given them to my famiy. So this year I was given season 4-6. So i’ve got them all and now i’m happy. Here are my top ten favorite things- Harry Potter, Smallville( mustdvd’s) General Hospital My Boyfriend( 15 months for us yeah) christmas time summertime ,jewlery. P’s If you do have a chance to write back my e-mail expired. so in case you’re wondering who your’e writing to my boy friend I know a bit strange. Thanks for playing kickass chloe. Chloe and Jimmy rock!!!Please don’t go in season seven, Shannon Kane.

I realize I’m a few months behind this post, but it was such a great opportunity, I just had to try it. I’ve borrowed a few of your’s that I probably wouldn’t have included if I had not read your list, but that’s good, because I took some things for granted.

    laughing until it hurts.

when somebody does something special just for me, and i get tingles in the pit of my stomach.

    taking an amazing photograph.

a line in a movie or TV show that is so perefectly written and delivered that i gasp.

    insprirational and reflective writings/thoughts.

    movie previews.

    dancing to incredible choreography.

the hot fudge at the bottom of a sundae.

being at the top of a mountain, with a clear, wide view of the entire world ahead of me, with nothing left to do that day except watch the sunset and go to bed.

traveling in a car for hours.

writing stories with hidden, personal meanings beneath the surface.

I could go on forever apparently, but that should do.

I really enjoy reading your blogs! You have amazing ideas and thoughts about the world, and I’m glad the rest of us get to hear it.

    Thanks.
    :D D

I know I am totally late for this blog and no one will ever read it, but I love the idea and want to remember life’s little mysteries one more time.
    I love…
    the smell of fresh-cut grass
when laughs erupt out of anyones mouth especially a child’s
    a dog’s unconditional love
getting a phone call saying I don’t have to go into chemo
seeing my story published in the New York Times
I have to agree with Allison, movie previews ( I would pay ten bucks just to see them)
    tuning acoustic guitars
driving until the gas runs out
    making footprints in the sand
I guess that is all… All I have to say is that Allison you are an amazing woman and you have the must unique way of seeing life. You have given those who don’t always fit in a place to be ourselves.Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

  • http://N/A Logan

Sorry, but I don’t have a website. I don’t even know how to make one.

My name is Logan, I’m from the Dallas,Texas area, and I’m currently a Lance Corporal in the Marine Corps Reserves.

Anywho, I just wanted to say that I try to count my blessings, and all the good things in my life as well. I’m a Marine currently in Iraq so it’s actually good that I do that, lol. Sometimes, when someone I know bitches about how life sucks, I get kind of smart assy(I know, not a word), and ask them questions like: “Did you wake up this morning, do you have a roof over your head, did you have food on your plate”, etc, etc. I think it’s important to focus on the good things.

I sometimes focus on the bad as well, and it really gets me down. Especially over here since I don’t have my friends or family to talk to. I have email, but it’s not the same. Besides, I have this crazy idea that no one cares what I think or how I feel. Even though I’m sure I’m probably wrong.

Anyways, I’m kind of skeptical that this is “you”. In case I’m wrong, I just want to say that I think it’s really cool that you have this website to talk to your fans to let them know what going on in “Ms. Mack’s Life”. I’d say your first name, but since I don’t know you I figured it’d be weird, lol.

I’ve been watching all the seasons of Smallville, and I’m currently in the middle of the 6th season. I’ve watched most of it on and off since 8th grade when it came out, but I figured I’d watch it all to see what I missed.

This was way too long, and I’m sorry. I may have accidentally posted it just now…twice. Sorry, I hit “submit comment” by mistake. Good luck with whatever you’re doing, and I wish you the best in your career. Later.

  • Camila
