Okay, so in case you haven’t noticed, my site has changed! I love it! I think it is beautiful. So, I have decided to take this week’s blog and focus on change and the beauty of change; hence the two amazing quotes I am using this week as the inspiration. I am so totally in love with the phrase Mr. Cohen used, “in movement there is life, and in change there is power“. I just want to stand up and cheer when I read that! So often I get stuck in what I think is predictable and certain, like in some way that makes me more safe or more happy! What a ridiculous lie to tell myself! The truth of the matter is that I am only limiting my experience of my life! I want to be as full and rich and… and exciting as possible and if I really want to attain this goal I need to stretch. I need to change. The nessessity for taking risk is so huge; I can’t believe that I am only just recognizing. I think so often I get stuck in the same old same old because it feels “safe” and comfortable, but what a horrible theft from me!

Really, you have one shot at this! Why not make the most of it! I am using tons of “!” because I really want to express my excitment and passion for this concept!!!!!

Life is about living, not sitting, sleeping, coasting, and comforting! It’s about failure, up and down, forward and back… all the above! A great friend of mine was telling me about an amazing man she heard speak, and he was saying that when you go to see a film, the most exciting parts are when the characters are going through the most change. In essence, this is when the characters are going through the most struggle. Why would we ever want to cut out the most exciting parts of our life?

Ahh! How fun!

    Anyway. Changing, yeah. It generally overwaves me, and I desire it yet. I use to be a sunny person, I like life an colors and so on; but, really, changing scares me, I can’t explain.
    Nevertheless, at the moment I’m working to change again, to– to revive: it seems to be the right moment. Not easy, but necessary. I read your words and thought: what was I doing with my life? Why do I already feel so old? I’m just 29…

    Change…grrrr…I hate change. It usually scares me like none other. I haven’t had good experiences with change though, which could be a reason why I don’t want/like it. But after what you said, I’m almost welcoming it.

    I just want to thank you sooo much for what you say. It may not seem like that big of a deal to you, but you really leave a dent in the things that you say. It makes me think, makes me change, and makes me do thing I would have never thought about doing. So, Thank You. You have trully made a difference in my life.

    Aside from those things, I saw the premiere. Wonderful! You did fantastic! So many people have been talking about your incredible acting, along with Tom’s as well. We are all really excited to see you this season. Did that sound weird?

    I really don’t know exactly why I’m commenting. It’s the first time I’ve seen the blog. I dunno, maybe it’s just ’cause Alisson is so cute and looks so sweet and warm and friendly. I have sort of a crush on her, hence my rushing to the TV everytime Smallville is on. Damn, if I was Clark Kent, Lana wouldn’t stand a chance against Chloe.

    I posted earlier, but I have since digested your original post. You know, I am proud of you in your desire to change. I realize that I am about to go through some of the biggest changes in life of my own. Your enthusiasm encourages me. At a time in my life when I should be totally comfortable and enjoying the fruits of my labors, I yearn for change – mentally, physically, and career-wise. Mentally, I am going through a little bit of that middle-age crisis. I won’t go there. Physically, I am about 20 pounds overweight. I am planning to shed it. (Smallville provides my inspiration.) I recently got braces and I am having reconstructive surgery on my mouth in a few months. I plan to come out of this having a lot more self-confidence than I have now. Career-wise, I am at a mid-point in my career, however, I would love more than anything to develop a free-lance career in photography, videography, or website development. I have made strides in that area. Soooo… Life is about change. It is about not giving up at any age. I only share this so you’ll know that even if you change now, you may still go through many changes in life – even when you are “supposed” to be at that comfortable stage in life.

    Allison! Hello! So the following is what came out of my brain as a result of thinking on things that you have shared. It is amazing (and I use that word a lot) how familiar each individual’s life journey can feel even compared to your own. This is about me changing but changing the right way. I guess? =)

    Anything produced in haste is generally not anything produced of worth. I think that is a statement that most reasonable people would agree with. I mean, my college clarinet professor, D. Ray McClellan, use to say of practice time “Haste makes waste!” That was his way of encouraging us not to just put in time in the practice room to merely have minutes logged, but to actually put something behind those minutes. Put something into those minutes so that when there was a finished product to be shared, whether in the weekly lesson or on stage for an audience to hear, what was to be shared would be truly artistic. He wanted nothing more than for our efforts to no longer be heard, but for the music that was intended by its composer to come alive and take captive the audience. So if I learned that lesson from dear Dr. McClellan, why is it that I constantly expect of myself brilliance on demand? I expect that I should constantly be full of genius and creativity. I expect that I should ooze entertainment and intelligence. I feel like I should be the “One” that is noticed and has it all figured out. I expect nothing less from myself than constant perfection in all areas of talent, intellect, bravery, organization, creativity, intensity, insight, stability, beauty, etc. Why do I demand this all of someone who is only 25 years old? I would not ask it of he who is 65, 75, 85 and so forth. I realize that the things that make people beautiful include those things in which they perhaps perpetually struggle to embrace successfully. I read a quote recently and it made me stop and think. I cannot remember who to give credit to for this quote or even exactly how it went but the words went something like this:

    “Man is the only creature who refuses to be what he is.” -Albert Camus

    Ok, so I looked it up to give the guy his proper dues. Those words just hit hit me. Think about how awesomely accurate that statement rings true. I mean, you don’t see the honey bees giving up on pollination and trying to be more like the catfish who scavengers the floor of its watery home, do ya? Yet we never seem to be content to be just who God made us to be. It is such a fine line isn’t it? I mean, I don’t think that this quote is meant to say, yeah, you are who you are, inadequacies and all. So let’s just never try to be any better. I don’t agree with that even remotely. I think that what is so amazing about the honey bee being the honey bee is that he knows who he is and who he is not and then he takes who he is and does it with all of his heart. Have you ever watched bees at work? They are relentless and amazing. Their work efforts are tiresome to the onlooker. They do the same things over and over again but have what they do down to a systematic work of art. Did that sound like and oxymoron? Maybe that is what the person meant when they said “Find out who you are and do it on purpose” or something like that. Maybe I need to focus on finding out the essence of Krystal and honing in on being the unique creature that God created when he created her. Instead of trying to make Krystal perfect at being Everybody. Hmmm?

    I just happened across the website here and I am very impressed. Not only with the site itself but with the content. I was surprised that it was written by the actress herself. Sound a bit pessimistic? Yes I suppose. But it is very refreshing to see that not all of the young actresses and celebrities out there today are such horrific role models for their younger fans. It’s good to see that there are celebs that are ‘real people’ with real concerns and feelings and doubts. Celebs that are not running around flashing their ‘naughty bits’ to the cameras because they use the bad judgement not to wear undies with short short skirts. Celebs that aren’t being arrested for drug possession and DUI charges all the time. Or shaving their heads publicly after having a break down.

    I’ve always said that I don’t get it. They have great jobs, doing something they love, leaving a mark in history, and getting paid well to do it. Why are they whining all the time? Your sentiments echoed that and it’s good to see that I’m not the only one to think that way. As a single mother who works a full time job and a part time job just to make ends meet it makes me so angry to see the Parises and Lindseys and Brittanys of the world boo hooing over their lives while they wear their designer clothes and get their 2,000 dollar pedicures and drive their luxury cars and live in their lush mansions. They should take a page out of your book and realize that life is what you make it. I’m so glad to see such a bright, talented, and positive young lady out there that has her head on straight. Kudos to you Allison. Keep up the great work and I hope to see you and your cast mates in more projects.

    I first fell in love with you watching Smallville. I have since added your blog to my bookmarked tabs and read it whenever i can, however this is my first time commenting.

    To be honest, i am a big chloe/clark shipper. :] And that’s actually how i found your blog. Since then i’ve only fallen more in love with you and the way you view the world. It is so refreshing to know that there are still actors/actresses out there who havent lost perspective of what’s important to them and let all the fame get to their head. I’m not beginning to assume i know more about you then what you write on here, and i
    believe we can all be guilty of a little materialism, etc, but the voice that comes out when you write leads me to believe you’re not one of those actors/actresses who loves the fame and fortune more than the art. You seem truly passionate about what you do and i hope that someday i can work in a profession that i’m passionate about. You are truly an inspiration to me and many others, as is profoundly apparent from your other comments. And every blog is filled with thoughts that i can relate to so well that i’m sure i, as well as others, have begun to feel quite close to you even if we’ve never been within a 1,000 miles of you. I wish you the best in life and hope that if you haven’t already you can reach your dreams and far beyond.

    Also, you are so right about just going through the motions because we think it’s more comfortable. I’m going through a time in my life where i dont quite know where i fit in. I’m a science nerd, but i like fashion, however i am not that confident in my appearance and therefore dont always wear what i may want because i think i’ll either be looked at weirdly, or at all. I have a hard time dealing with all the attention, and reading your blog, i feel as though i could have written a lot of it myself. You are so brave to be in an industry where your every move is watched and where you have to have the confidence to get out in front of crowds of people. I’ll try and remember this blog from now on so that i dont just stick with the “comfortable.” In order to find me, i need to be confident enough to break through the barriers that hold me now.     Okay, to respond to your topic “change” I agree with you if you write “life’s not sitting, sleeping, coasting, and comforting!”. I myself changed my whole life earlier this year, because I came to a point where I didn’t wanted be – I was mentally motionless, stuck. But I did it, changed almost everything. On the other hand, it was quite hard starting to change and though it was even harder leaving things and peeps behind… Without telling you my entire auto-biography the only thing I wanted to mention is that, if you wanna expierience change you have to be kinda ready for it – just stop negotiating with yourself and do it, now.

Being a British viewer without access to satellite, digital or cable, I’m still years behind in Smallville, but am really enjoying your performances at the moment (Series 5, I think).

    First, there is actually alot to be said for sitting, sleeping, coasting, and comforting. These things are good to have at the end of a journey. One needs these things to rest up and prepare for the next one. Although, adventure may not be such a good thing. A great French explorer ( who went up against shackleton for a race to the south pole) once said, “Adventure is what happens to the unprepared.” This is a call to understanding that there are hazards in the world, but they can be avoided with a little forethought. Change can shake you, even severely sometimes. But as I have said before, I can tell from your writing that you are in fact a woman of considerable courage. More than you know, I think.
    On another note, I recently saw some photos of your friend, kristin, having some trouble at the airport. Boy, the paparazzi have no shame! They just kick your ass and there’s nothing you can do! My heart goes out to her, whoever the guy is (Mark?), I think he is an international contender for dumbass of the year. Tell her not to fret,
    that on her journey, grander things await.

    Anyway, I’m just posting to tell you that I agree with you when you say that change is thrilling and exciting, but that doesn’t make it easier, in fact, that’s exactly what makes it difficult. :P But difficult can be good, right?

Our body changes a little more each day, nature changes… So, I think we have to change our mind, our thoughts, our habits everytime it’s necessary! First, we have to change ourselves, and then, who knows, we may be able to change the world, for better of course! Changing is good, specially to our souls.

    I’m an admirer of your work! Since the first time that I saw Smallville. I searched about you sometimes! Generally pictures, ’cause, with all respect, you’re beautiful!

    I always liked the characters like Chloe. A smart person who likes to search about truth, about something wrong (I don’t know how to say the english version to the brazilian expression “com a pulga atrás da orelha”, literally “with the flea behind the ear”).

    About the post, what I have to say is that changings are “two edges knife”. It can be healthful, like when you are soffering and needs some peace, or can be bad, if you have a weak reason to do something different that what you would do. I allready had both sides of a changing. I turned myself a new person, but I lost my reason to do it! Anyway, in fact the change is a reallity. To change isn’t a sin, but to do it without a reason can bring something ackward. Just life’s experiences…

    Question: If change is so good, why are we still on this topic?

    I just got a copy of “Unlikely Angel” in the mail yesterday. My step-son opened the box, saw what was in it and threw it aside somewhere. I have yet to find it. Maybe it would be easier to buy another copy. This made me think of another question for Allison but that topic is closed. I wonder what it was like working with Dolly Parton and Rick Moranis. Hmmm. Allison played Jenny Szalinski in “Honey ….” Reminds me of a book that I tried to get published “Passing for Polish for Personal Profit.”

    A friend recommended a new book that is coming out that is supposed to make sense out of the various versions of Krypton and perhaps serve as the ultimate definition of Superman’s home world. The book is called “The Last Days of Krypton.” A review of the book said that Jor-El is prematurely white-haired like Brando is in the Superman film … but that he doesn’t mumble like Brando. Personally, I think they should keep the mumble. As soon as Jor-El storms out of the Planetary Council after trying to convince them that Krypton is about to explode, one of the councilmen turns to the councilman next to him and asks, “Did you understand anything that he said?” The other councilman answers, “Not a word! Jor-El may be a brilliant scientist, but he always sounds like his cheeks are stuffed with tissue paper!”

    Did I change the topic? I guess I did! Maybe change can be good!

    wow, I am super late this time, but at least I haven’t missed any blog entries….. Hmmmm, change. Yeah, apparently I don’t like change. It took me a while to get used to the new design of your blog. I really liked the old one, I already miss it !!! Also, something weighs heavily on my soul, something that has to do with change, and the show you appear in, ‘Smallville’. I feel like I am cheating on you, hehe…..after years of loyal viewership I have stopped watching, now that S7 has started….. This has nothing to do with your performance, or any other actors, of course…… I simply disagree with most if not all decisions the writers/producers take, nowadays. I realized it’s easier for me if I stop watching altogether…… That’s sad of course, as I am deprived of my weekly dose of Allison Mack, which I got so used to, over the years…..

    Change.

    Well, you’ve stumped me on this one. At the moment, my life is quite hum-drum; no big changes, no news, no excitement, no special announcement to jump up and down about.

    But this time last year. There was a lot of change, and a lot of new things to make decisions about, a lot of hurt and anger and not knowing why these things were happening to me so in a way, I can appreciate why some people don’t like change.

    Without last year, I wouldn’t have made myself get out of my miserable job, or make the most of the time I had with my husband or my family. Without last year, and its abundance or change, I wouldn’t have learnt something about myself which is that I am a better leader in a team than I am a leader on my own.

    Without last year, I wouldn’t have realised I could love any child regardless of what genes we have in common.

    Without last year, I wouldn’t have put myself first for a change so that I can be a healthy, happy person, strong enough to help other people and be there for those less able.

    I learnt that I was afraid of change because it meant having to do it all by myself because no matter who you’re with and how close you are to people, you will always have to answer to yourself.

    So, without last year, I wouldn’t have had the time now to sit here and write on this blog or think about how lucky I am that I was able to get through all those horrible changes, accept them and move on. And I don’t mind that my life is humdrum or boring and that nothing much happens. I know that if change ever happens again, I can face it now.

    This is for my friend Robert Stobonovich who tragically died in February 2007 after suffering from a period of mental illness and jumping in front of a train. He always had to deal with the ever-moving states within his mind, never ever knowing the boring, the hum-drum or just silence. He was 33 years old. He was married and left 3 step-children, 2 parents and a younger brother.

    That’s the thing about change. Sometimes, it’s just not fair. But then, I think about people for whom change comes in sweeping, unpredictable ways like storms and famines.

    Allison, you do fantastic work for charity and you are a true inspiration. Great new look to the website and I am enjoying Season 7. I feel for Chloe, I just wish, that for once, the under-dog would win. I would love to see her win Clark, she is the only girl on Smallville who deserves a hero. Please don’t let her dreams die, she is meant to be the best reporter – she’s worked so hard!

    I really like your photo gallery, by the way. I’m something of a photographer myself, having just come back from Venice and then the Lake District. You can catch my pics on Facebook (just look for my name). I use a Canon 400D – which I’ve only had about a year – I’m still used to traditional film but it’s a lot cheaper using digital, so I guess I am keeping up with technological change! Thinking about that, makes me realise that sometimes, some things should stay the same, society needs a foundation of some kind that people can rely on, to help them feel safe, cared for and that they can hand down to generations lest they forget who they are and where they came from?

    Hey Allison, good piece on change. I believe that your writing is deep and honest because you write plainly and with a certain commonality that I can easily identify with. Since I see some of my beliefs in what was written I want to share an inspiration of my own if I may. There is a speech by Henry Rollins unofficially called “Ember of Rage” that was shot in Israel, just Google it, that awakened a lot of inner emotion and inspired me to put forth more effort in each and every day that I live in my ever changing life. It is very much an emotional rollercoaster in that it starts off slow and ramps up into a very moving final plea. I hope this provides you with more inspiration in your efforts to embrace change and most obviously good luck to you.

    Hi beautiful Allison! Just wanted to mention something about your new website layout. Shortly after you made the transition, I viewed your site using WindowsXP. The browser was IE 6 I think. Anyway, the layout wasn’t correct. Columns that should have been to the right of the page were dropped down to the bottom. Something about your layout doesn’t seem to be cross-browser friendly. Just thought I’d mention it, maybe your web engineer can take a look.
