Juicy Peach Announcement

This year, Kristin and I have decided to work together to develop a small grant foundation dedicated to the support of art projects all over the world! We decided to develop an online gallery/store filled with products we and our other artist friends create as a way to have the arts support the arts. This store is called Juicy Peach! Here is our mission statement:

Juicy Peach is a not-for-profit gallery and store born as a way to utilize art to support the creation of more art. We are dedicated to harnessing our success and abilities to create a community of support so our contemporaries will have the opportunity to do the same. Basically, we are selling stuff so other people can make and sell more stuff!

Now, some fun facts about this company!

  1. Our first product we are selling is this beautiful calendar we put together filled with pictures we took while traveling.

    image004.jpg

    image001.jpg
    image002.jpg

There are pics of us in Paris from when we were 21, shots Chad took in China, Mark took in Cuba and India, Kristin took everywhere, and I took somewhere. It also has little “Mack Events” on random days throughout the year, so if you are into doing this with me, you can have a jump on what events will be happening when and spend your year laughing at the goofiness of life and the things we create and enjoy! Each calendar is signed by Kristin and I, and you can buy them straight from www.allisonmack.com until we get the Juicy Peach site up and running properly.

  2. The next fun fact is addressing the site’s name, Juicy Peach! Sounds dirty, no? We thought it was fabulous. The name started from a discussion that Kristin and I were having with a friend of ours. This friend was giving me a description of how she saw me living my life; she said it seems as though I look at life as a ripe juicy peach—I bite into everything and let the juice run down my hand. I loved this description of me so much so that I drew this:
    image005.jpg

So, when Kristin and I were coming up with the concept of an online store, she thought this was a great name for our company because it exemplifies the way we would ideally live life—fully and completely, biting in with no fear or suffering, and just enjoying every bite!

I find that the arts are such an amazing part of this way of living life. When I am creating, I feel as though I am making a tangible representation of what I am feeling and then expressing it in a way that is completely unique to me. Through the creation of all these things, I am exploring myself so much deeper thereby deepening my own experience of myself and ultimately my life. This is something I want to share and encourage many people to do and I hope this annual grant will do this.

  3. As we build and expand this site we will continue to cycle the money through. It will act as a total not-for-profit, with all of the monies earned through the sales going directly into the foundation.

If this is something that sounds interesting or you think is cool, jump on board! Grab a calendar to start off your year or indulge in the “Mack/Kreuk branding” and grab a personally-signed head shot! I will keep you updated on the growth and progress of this new experiment, and in the meantime, you can enjoy the process alongside us!

Thanks for all your support on our new and exciting adventures! Yay, 2008! New growth, new ideas, new inspiration!

Ciao for now!

it’s great to see you like trying some new things every day :) It’s almost the same as I am :) If I saw or think up something that look interesting I almost always going try it. Sometimes I’m wandering if I’m very good at something :/, one thing. I dont know, sometimes I feel I like everything but dont know nothing as good as I should know. Do you have such feelings too? That you should focus on one thing and make it perfect? I mean perfect in a way of learning it.

btw its nice You and Kristin are friends in real life :)

  • Elizabeth M

loving the just juicy peach idea. ordered myslef a calander. looking forward to joining in on the events. I have been wanting to get back into art for such along time and I think the Mack Events is such a great way to involved. Cheers Allison. Have a good Hogmany when it arrives.

  • Ludovica

    Wow!!!!!!!!Compliments to Allison and Kristin!!!
This is a great idea!Good luck….you have all my support ;-)

Helping the art grow into everyone is really cool. I always like photography. I loved taking pics of everything. Even bought an expensive camera. Now music started growing into me also. I got a guitar today and hopefully I’ll be able to sing a decent song soon. Too bad I’ve never been able to draw/paint anything but “abstract” things hehe.

I wish all of you a wealthy and wonderful year to come! La multi ani 2008! :)

  • Lydia

Wow…you and Kristin are doing a lot of different things. It’s amazing.
I don’t have any artistic talent but I do like art so I’m looking forward to seeing more works of art. :-)

You’ve come up with a wonderful idea. I wish you both good luck with the Juicy Peach idea. I’ve just ordered the calendar. Thank you for putting it together.

It is a real treat for me that you share your love for art, your thoughts on music, books and movies with your fans. Thank you.

I’m constantly inspired by you. I’ve embraced who I am. I’m working my way to a better body and a healthier life and I’m challenging myself to set goals and go for it. I’m finally ready to live life thoroughly and joyfully.

I hope that many opportunities will come your way. I wish you good health, lots of fun and joyful days, love, a successful career and a wonderful New Year’s Eve surrounded with the people you love.

    Hi Allison,
This sounds cool. I hope it works. I like the name also.
Hope you enjoy this and life.
    Have fun!

Juicy peach huh? I only wish I had your enthusiasm to go out and do things (sadly, the nature of living in a small town) However I am glad to hear about this non-profit organization. It sounds like a great way to reach into the lives of others and bless them with your support of their creativity. I would love to hear how this pans out in the coming weeks and wish Kristin and yourself all the success possible in this. As for your calendar, I will have to take a look into it when I get back from holidays, as it were. (Any time I get out of my home I considered holidays… sigh.) Without wanting to pry into your personal life to a creepy extent, I would love to hear about how your holidays went, and what you like to do tradition-wise and perhaps how you reach out to others and whatnot, whether it be through written or another (and anticipated) video blog. Have a very happy and very safe (in any order you wish to prioretize it) New year!

    Blessings,
    Phil J

  • Ann

I’m loving this, but I do have a question. Who exactly will get the money made by this? Will people apply to be supported? I’m gonna get a calendar even though I’m a poor college student. ha ha! Just because I support you and Kristin and I love art. I’m actually a little bit of an artist myself. Well, Happy New Years and I look forward to what this year brings us all.

  • Jennifer

First I have to say I love the name “Juicy Peach”. I’ve alway’s loved Photography and art even though I’m not that good of an artist, your drawing above is really good. You and Kristin have come up with an awesome Idea and I wish you both good luck and I support you both all the way. Have a Safe and Happy New Year.

  • Kathy

This is a lovely idea! I will be buying a calendar, and I love the name of the site: Juicy Peach.

And Allison, I love that you want to give back to the arts community, and I support you 100% in doing this–WELL DONE :) :)

  • me

    40$???
    WOW!!
Anyway you two doing a great job and the first pic is funny! You are both fantastic and Happy B-Day Kristin and good luck with the new movie (for both):)

  • http://www.myspace.com/susannacole Susanna-Cole

Wow, how do you manage so many projects? I can’t keep up!

But I wanted to say, I love the name: Juicy Peach! :) I’d buy a calendar, and even though this is to support the arts, as a starving artist (hopefully not for long though, I’m only 17!) AND a starving college student, $40 is a bit much for a calendar (besides that I tend to write stuff most people write on a calender, on random places like my hand…which works great as a calender until I wash my hands!) But hey, if I win the lottery (or at least end up with some extra spending cash) I’ll happily buy a calendar or two! (Two, in case I loose the first one… for being a neat freak, I’m somehow still highly skilled at loosing stuff!)

    xoxo,
    S-C

This is directed at the participants of this blog:

You guys seriously amaze me! I am totally blown away by your consistent support of Allison’s projects, and it reminds me so much of why I got involved with this fandom to begin with. You are all some of the most kind and considerate people I’ve ever had the privilege of working with!

Thanks for keeping up the support with this blog! I bet you don’t often think that by supporting this blog you’re supporting a multitude of people involved.

Thank you for being so willing to get involved with all of these wonderful projects. If there’s anything that anyone should ever take from these blogs, I think that its “You CAN make a difference, no matter who you are, by being the difference.”

    Love you peoples!
    -Tabby

PS. Allison… you’re cool too. :-D (*scores browny points*)

  • Amber

As a recent college grad, I’m hoping this calendar will keep me entertained as I begin my foray into the 8-5 world next week. Thanks!

  • http://myspace.com/pavpod Adrian

Making the difference isn’t always that easy but it’s worth at least a try anytime. If not helping out is what makes us humans then what is?

  • Hannah

Sorry to be a stick in the mud, but is this a US or Canadian endeavor? I ask because if it is a US endeavor you should apply for 501(c)3 tax exempt status. This would make your declaration of being “not for profit” official and it would allow people who donate to receive tax benefits. And I imagine that if the effort is based out of Canada there is something similar available.

Additionally, while I admire your passion and determination, I wish you’d be a A LOT more forthcoming with details. In the past few weeks you’ve launched a couple of projects that ask for money but you haven’t been very specific about things like where the money goes. I’m sure plenty of people will give without being given specifics, but for any non-profit to be perceived as legitimate, you have to spell out the mechanisms being used to gather and disperse funds. I worry that depending on where you choose to disperse the money you raise, a conflict of interest could arise. For example, will this be like your birthday fundraiser where the money went to a friend who was starting a business? I truly believe you to be sincere with your efforts, but I don’t think you’re doing all the necessary homework before launching into these campaigns.

Another point regarding a non-profit status – for a non-profit to receive 501(c)3 status it must have a board of directors. One of the purposes of a board of directors is to help ensure oversight when it comes to the disbursement of funds.

I would love to donate to Juicy Peach for a number of reasons, including the fact that you say it supports the arts and also because I think it’s great to see young women come together and create a purposeful business. But I can’t in good conscience donate to something that has offered such minimal detail. There are far to many great causes out there that have done all the legwork to establish themselves as legitimate non-profit ventures.

  • DOBAND

This is a great idea!, congratulations for you Allison and Kristin in your proyects.

I love you Allison and happy new year 2008, good luck in your job..

Hannah, I really appreciate your continued concern on the matter of Allison’s fundraising endeavors and you really do bring up some very valid concerns, however you SHOULD know and understand that, seeing that Allison DOES have some kind of celebrity status, she’s really not going to intentionally dupe people. No one likes bad press and that kind of thing would generate that. That fact alone should be enough to help you understand that there is no secret benefactor for her funds.

As for all of the details you request, those are coming. She clearly stated in her post that we’re working on getting the real website up and running. The real website will have ALL of the necessary details, but she wanted to offer the calender to people NOW because It’s almost January and it’d be nice to have the calendar at the beginning of the year.

Allison and Kristin have likely done the research they need into this business. They’re just doing a sort of pre-launch with the calendars.

As for where the money will go, the question has already been sent in to them to be answered.

The choice to not participate is an okay choice, and I can understand the hesitancy. The store will always be available and I hope you choose to participate once we launch the full site.

In the past fundraisers I’ve lead, prior to teaming up with Allison, I gave even LESS details than what she’s given, and no one seemed to mind. Really, hun. She’s not going to dupe people.

  • Hannah

And I appreciate the way you continually defend Allison. You are very loyal.

Unfortunately (perhaps I am just cynical), I do not believe Allison’s celebrity status offers any assurances that this “non-profit” will be able to carry out it’s stated objectives. Not because I think Allison and Kristin are evil and attempting to screw their fans, but simply because I see no evidence that the basic infrastructure is in place to manage this effort.

And honestly, your assertion that Allison’s celebrity status offers some sort of assurance is part of the reason I initially said I believe there is an unintentional mis-use of celebrity status going on here. Allison and Kristin should not be relying on name recognition as a way of establishing legitimacy.

As the saying goes, “well done is better than well said.” So far, all that has been offered are words and promises. I have some experience in the non-profit world and based on what has been presented so far I do not get the impression that either Allison or Kristin have any idea as to what they’re getting themselves into.

I’m sure they aren’t seeking bad publicity but that’s exactly what they’re going to get if they don’t handle this effort in a more professional manner. I do not understand the value of launching something like this before it is completely functional. You think they’ve done research, but that is not the impression they’ve left me with. If I were attempting to launch a business, I would want my first presentation of my idea to fill people with confidence, not doubt. Any confidence that has been inspired here is, imo, the residual effect of the respect/admiration people have for Kristin and Allison and has nothing to do with the strength of their preparation and planning.

Like I said, I would love to support them in this effort. I’m always looking for new organizations to invest in. I believe the idea they have here is solid. But the execution is poor. It’s not enough to promise that it will be better in time. Nor to rely on previously established goodwill. To me, they are both risking their reputations on something that have not sufficiently planned for. I’d be happy to be wrong. But for now I would encourage people [think before] purchasing a calendar because you aren’t just buying a product, you are making a donation. The money that is accumulated above and beyond the cost of producing the calendar is going to go somewhere. And until any of us can be confident that this money will go somewhere meaningful, it makes no sense to contribute to an unidentified cause.

As far as what you have done previously, I wasn’t around then. But I’ve done a little reading and I understand your last fundraiser ended up being used to finance a theatre started by a friend of Allison’s and that you described this as an example of microfinance. First, it is not microfinance because microfinance is predicated on the idea that the money is a loan that must be repaid. Second, the fact that you offered less info doesn’t say anything positive of this effort, it says something negative about your previous efforts. Two wrongs don’t make it alright. And third, there’s a big difference between a fan-run fundraiser in which the proceeds go to a legitimate non-profit where the funds can be fairly administered versus a celebrity endorsed fundraiser in which the celeb trades on his/her name as a means for gaining support and offers zero insight into how the money will be disbursed.

Given Allison’s previous decision to funnel the money raised into a project being run by a friend, I think there’s a very real question as to where this money will go and who will be responsible for making these decisions. People have the right to know how their money will be used before they donate. Perhaps people on this site are so loyal that they don’t really care where the money goes. I’m certainly not trying to tell people what to do with their own money. But I would encourage people to think about it a little bit and not just jump in blindly. There are lots of well intentioned people in this world. That doesn’t mean all of their projects are able to realize the potential present in the initial idea.

Anyway, rather than just be a complainer, I’ll offer myself as an adviser if that would be useful. Like I said, I know a bit about this stuff and I’d be happy to provide a few pointers if that would be helpful.

Allison/Kristin – I have been lucky to be able to donate what little I can to both large and small charities, ranging from The Red Cross to kids selling lemonade on their street corner in order to raise funds for a sick classmate … I am all for the grassroots work you’re doing to make sure that our future generations are able to have the opportunity to not only create art but to also enjoy it (I guess I have the future of my 3 young girls in mind). Keep doing what you’re doing (because it’s alot more than the majority of people would even think of doing) and I’m sure the details will follow… You do inspire others (especially me) through the words you say and the work you do. All I gotta say is “Keep On Keepin’ On”!

  • The Great Ymmij

I love everything you (Allison) and Kristin are doing with your outside projects as well as Smallville. The metaphors are absolutely wonderful! Ah, “Juicy Peach.” It doesn’t get much better than that! Especially since I live in Georgia, the peach state. I would be happy to pick you both tons of juicy peaches, haha! Well, you have my utmost support, and I love you both!
    P.S. Happy Birthday Kristin!!

Second of all, I think this is awesome what you guys are doing. You really seem like great people. I’d buy a calendar, but I’m getting somewhat broke paying for college and all of my Christmas gifts this year. Maybe in a while or if I suddenly get a bunch of money. :)

Happy New Year and thank you all who are involved in these wonderful projects!

You know, I could care less about the tax benefits when it comes to a good cause to donate to. So if the “not-for-profit” part is ruffling some feathers, then you could just skip that part. If we choose to trust Ms. Mack and the gang then that ours choice. No need in giving us a lecture about it. Keep up the good work Allison, Kristin and everyone involved. Don’t be discouraged by some of these comments, but take the advice and move on. :o ) Which I’m sure you’re all use to.
