Mack Event: Build a fort

Remember when you used to turn the coffee table upside down and line it with pillows only to drape the whole thing with a sheet or a blanket and hide out all day in your secret fort?

Wasn’t that the coolest thing ever? Let’s revisit!

Everyone build a fort and send me the pics/specs of what you construct!!

OH MY GOD that was so much fun, I used to do this kind of stuff when a was younger …, but not only using the coffe table, but also using HUGE cardboard boxes … miss that time … when we used to be always happier, no worries about tomorrows , just living without fear …
I have so many good memories of those days …
thanks for bringing me those flashes back
you should post a picture of you into your fort hahahaha , would love to see it
Did you see my video about the that tv show ” thank God you’re here” ? wasn’t it hilarious ?

UNFORTUNATELY, where I work, they found the smallest cubby they could find (too small for a broom closet) and made it into an office for me. It is supposed to be called a “harbor” and used for a few minutes at a time … but it was too small to be a harbor so it has a sign on it that says “Harb.” Around the office, people think my name is Harb1956. At least I don’t have to worry about mice or roaches. They had to move out so I can fit in here. So (temporarily back on topic), I don’t have to build anything. I don’t have to imagine having a small secret fort. I have one in real life. I don’t have pillow walls yet but there are plans on padding the walls for me and getting me extremely long sleeved shirts as part of my work uniform. A few years back at a previous job, they kept laying people off and letting me do all the layed off people’s work. Rather than put all the files in one office, I occupied 3 offices and just moved up and down the hallway depending upon whose job I was doing at the moment. My life has really imploded since then!

Maybe I can get a picture of my office to post here.

HELP! Darwin is attacking my fort!

The coffee table will never hold up! Need a memorable phrase to go out on.

    Remember the Ala Mode!

  • http://www.trevorwjohnson.com Stovek

My family has a house in the woods, and I remember going into the trees with my two sisters to find grass pits — mounds upon mounds of hilly grass-covered things. We spent quite some time searching for small fallen trees to carve into smooth poles to place over the top of mounds. After we had a single entry point into our created burrows, we spent some time covering up the smooth poles with grass to blend in with the surroundings.

It took a long time to build one of them, but I’d say the entertainment value was worth it. It’s not as though there was much else to do during those long summer days ;)

Too bad Alaska has moose everywhere. They tend to hang out in grass pits, and one day some of our forts were destroyed. Guess we covered them up a little too well. There weren’t any moose nearby at the time, so I can only assume the moose were alright.

Haha I remember building forts with pillows. I’ll see if my younger brother wants to build one today. If so, I’ll be sure to take a picture for you!

  • Heather

oh I am SO excited to get started on this one! haha! My little cousin and I spend alot of time together just hanging out. He’s 5 and he LOVES building forts so we build them all the time. We’ll have to take a picture of the newest one we create!

I absolutely remember being little and going down into the basement, having stolen all of the blankets and couch pillows, just ready to build a fort and hide from the world for awhile :) It was seriously the greatest feeling!

What a great Mack Event, can’t wait to get started! Also can’t wait to see what other’s create!

  • Marilyne

    Hey guys!
In the Allison’s calendar, today’s activity was “To build a fort”…When I bought the calendar, I was like…right…a fort on March 10th…but then winter came along and let fall almost 4 metres of snow!! So I guess Allison’s forecasts were true…hahaha I don’t know the weather on your side of the planet but let me tell you that here in Quebec, tourists are speechless and amazed by our bloody cold temperatures and forever lasting precipitations!
Drive safely if you have to

  • Anteza

i never build forts for myself, but whenever we got a new kitten i’d make pretty huge forts for them to play in, made out of cardboard boxes and some wood, cut out doors and stuff :p

  • Ana C.

Oh the card boxes used to be my second home :P . no jkjk XD.
Hmm i don’t have any lying around and I can’t exactly turn my dinner table over, my dad would flip. I probably won’t do this one personally but i’ll try to get my younger sisters to!
    You’re so creative :D

  • Kyle

I love the sense of nostalgia you’re bringing back. Thanks; I’ll see what I can do.

  • http://lillie-poo-pod.livejournal.com Lillie

Oh snap! I used to do this with my sisters all the time. *sighs* Sometimes I miss being young.

  • Emerson Medina

    My bedroom is my ‘bunker’

  • Tara

Wow, I use to build ‘forts ‘ all the time when I was younger!!! :) Although I didn’t use a coffee table, I use to get a whole bunch of chairs and put them in a room and drape lots of sheets over them. *Sigh* The good ol’ times. :) Sometimes my mom would even use a fridge box and cut a door out to use so me and my brother could have our own fort. :) Thanks for bringing up fun memories Allison!!! :)

  • Lydia23

  • Olivia

My brother and I would make a fort every week when we were younger. I always liked having my little world that I could escape to. So we had such a big snow storm, so I made an igloo. It was so cool!

  • Josh

This is going to be SOOOO much fun! I use to love building forts when I was younger. It was fun to rearrange the furniture differently each time so you had a new fort every time. I can’t wait to start building it, and of course start playing in it :D

  • Rina

Yay! I just built one! Its been such a long time I had a good laugh as I was building it brings back nice childhood memories

Crazy thought Allison, i used to have loads of places where i used to go and hide. Favourite place to go was actually my school. I used to sneak out and go there, felt kind of safe, plus the night tends to keep you hidden and safe from the world in the day. What about you?

  • ziggyfly

omg that was fun to built. lol try seeing a guy in a wheelchair making a fort but i finally got it done :D and pround. now my cat is sleeping in it haha. took some pics. where do we send them?? anyone know??

  • Rachel

    BEST MACK EVENT EVER

  • http://www.daybow.com DavidHayes1956

OWW! Flashback! I built a geodesic dome out of cardboard and spent every dime I had for waterproof paint to seal it so that it would last for a while. It was about ten feet in diameter and 5 foot high. I slept out in it one night and around midnight, I started hearing what sounded like explosions. I thought the neighbor kids were throwing rocks at the dome. I decided I’d deal with it in the morning. I found out that the “rocks” were actually little green apples that did no real damage to the dome but my head was ringing for a couple days after that.

  • ziggyfly

woohoo sent in the pics.. yay. but now i think that allison should make a fort too and have pics. i mean alot of people i bet r showing their forts so come on allison.it would be cool and cute..

  • taylor nikole

I have no clue what your talking about…
im 14 and i still make forts!
with my friends at spleepovers and having pillowfights!
    (and for thinking and reading)
    hell ya!
Sometimes i line my daybed with cloth and read and open my windows
to let light in… its really relaxing
Sometimes ill sit with my friends in there and have comforting silences…
its not always fun to be alone…
and its nice to sit in there with someone, not talk and feel comfortable…
although your not talking you know exactly what the other person is telling you…
    its weird…
or sitting there and spilling your secrets…
your hurt.. anything you would like…
those are what my forts are used for :D

I want a lot to keep contact with you because I like you very much

My e-mail is kleberef@yahoo.com.br and my msn is klebao1979@hotmail.com

    Thanks

  • Emily

Ohh man… I’m 16 and I still build forts! And I want to be an architect, so my forts normally occupy our whole gameroom and have multiple rooms within. It’s even more awesome when you build two fortresses and break out the Nerf guns and Beanie Babies and declare war on your older brother or best friend, which ever is in the vicinity of your battle-reinforced hideout at the time. Next time my best friend and I have a sleepover, we’ll build an amazing fort and snap a picture of it for ya. =)

  • Nancy

    Hey Allison,

I stumbled upon your site awhile ago, or maybe an online friend sent it to me. Not quite sure… but I have finally had some time to take a look, and lurk around a bit (Oh the life of a busy college student…lol okay not too busy, just too tired to bother pushing the computers’ on button… mainly do to the fact that I sit in class and deal with them all day) Anywho, enough about me…. just wanted to let you know your awesome and so inspiring. And the way you’re trying to connect with people and bring people together is amazing.

And the fort idea….. Love it! my sisters and I used to build them at my grandma’s house all the time… those were the days!
    :0)

Yep, I thin you have lost it Mack.

Last nights ration of SmallVille definitely jumped the Shark.

After eight years the producers still have a hard on for the green stuff, it’s just old, it was old in season four.

The scene between Chloe Ann Sullivan and Lex Luthor was a rip off of what I wrote over a year ago, except my scene was between Grant Gabriel and Chloe. “Move on to the inquisitor.”

When Enterprise introduced the alien lizard Nazis I lost all interest in that program too.

Laura and Michael, “sigh”. Just no imagination.

It’s so neat that you posted this particular memory on my own birthday!! It brought back a lot of fun memories. My siblings and I used to make forts and tents all the time. Usually when it was raining or to cold outside, it gave us something fun to do. Brings a smile back to me just remembering those days. thanks!!

    Neil

  • http://myspace.com/malleable_me Krystal

So, no fort yet. Thought I LOVED doing that when I was younger. However, I did play a mad game of hide-n-go-seek with my niece (4) and my nephew (6) today. Before I “played” I was exhausted from the in’s and out’s of my week. After an hour or so of the fun I had a second wind. Never underestimate the power of the benefits of exercise!!!

  • The Cradle

I used to take two chairs, and put a blanket over it, and that was my tent! This helped me to remember those times! How I miss those days!

  • The Cradle

Just wanted to say that I love Allison Mack on Smallville! Keep up the good work!

  • The Cradle

Edith and Archie Bunker sings: “Those were the days!”

As an after thought, I have just realized the whole reason for the existence of SmallVille on 3-13-08, was just to whore out some bubble gum, that’s really low. Guess Al and Miles are just running out of steam or they needed the $$$ to make up for the losses from the WGA strike?

Oh well, what do I want for free?

I’m still sitting on a couple spec scripts that will blow the doors off everything they have done in the last eight seasons, but can’t get anybody to reply to my written inquires. Guess they’re too busy doing lunch somewhere trying to look important.

    I give up.

For me fort usually served the sanctum from coverlet strained from bed before chair and walls of the closet. There ensemble of the necessary things was found. There were timeses… Presently 24 and this sanctum already will not help :)

    To word…

The Personage Chloe in “Smallville” the most attractive and sprightly (at least once for me)…so keep!

Forgive for my english. Regard from Russia

So … where did the photos of the forts get posted?

  • Jared

My fort was in the living room. It consisted of a Ninja Turtle Tent, my plastic samurai sword, all my favorite books, and a blanket and pillow. I had the opening facing the television as to avoid missing my must see cartoons. In order to further prevent intruders I had my handy dandy kit of plastic binoculars so I could see down the hallway, a cereal box surprise toy compass, and my trusty 25 cent whistle in case the intruders got to close I could scare them back. LOL! Every now and then I would use the couch cushions to wall the sides of my tent if no one was around to sit down on the couch. My rally point was under the kitchen table as the legs of the chair and table itself provided sufficient security. From there it took two combat somersaults to make it to the bathroom in case nature called. LMAO! I remember those times vividly. It’s no wonder I am currently serving in the army and on tour in Iraq. LOL! I guess the things we do as children when we are our at our most honest and simplist state of being define the person we will or can become. Most people lose touch with themselves as the innocense fades and then they feel lost and as though they need to “find” themselves again. It’s good to reflect on the times that we once had, but it’s more important to never forget who we really are.

  • Carlos Eduardo

A fort? That brings back to my mind the joyful moments of my childhood. I remember that my forts or houses were always weak and I had to move softly to don’t let them fall down. Everybody must have built one of those forts, I wonder which will be the real intention that our tiny minds always try to express?

My most sophisticated house was the one that I built using all of my Legos, it hadn’t a wall, but unless had a roof and enough space to let me be in its inside. Some years later, I used that concept to build my G.I.Joes’ headquarters.

On Monday’s night I felt very tempted of rebuilding my Lego fort. It’s a pity that I couldn’t find them. Fortunately, I’ve remembered that they’re in an old box under a pile of packages and boxes. When I have a spare time, I’m going to look for them in order to rebuild that house and then to take some photos.

    Bye Alli
    Which were your favourite toys?

  • Netra

My brother and I used to build forts, but not in our livingroom – We took it to the extreme with an old couch, a parachute and some cardboad boxes out in our backyard. We thought that we were the coolest 8 and 9 yr olds on the block!!!

I just wanted to tell you Allison, how much I apprieciate your website. Some people once they get an ounce of celebrity act like they are too good to really have a true connection to thier fans, like they don’t know that without them their careers would be non exsitant. So thank you for being a human being, and seeing past your own nose your the best (BTW, I think you are the most talented and beautiful woman on smallville) just so you know!

  • Netra

BTW How in the Hell do you find time to do this???? Its just a crazy thought to me, your life has to be so much more exciting then the average bear, I am noone important and I barley have time to blow my nose!! HOW DO YOU DO IT YODA? LET A CHICK KNOW!!!
