Funny you would suggest joy as a goal. I had a person tell me I lead a joyless existance. Upon reflection I agreed since I didn’t actually understand the meaning of the word joy.

So I went on a “Joy Quest”. Not that easy to find something you have no attachment to. So I looked around and discovered that ALL children can be joyful in the drop of a hat.

So I found joy… which will give life meaning.

The meaning of life (not anyones; all life) — there is where things start to get fun. And there is much joy in being/fulfilling the meaning of life.

I wish i would have came upon this website a LONG time ago… This site brings me joy… but in life I think it is important to find joy in everything we do… although i forget this inner voice all the time… here is a story that I hope will bring someone some joy in a sad time…
When my grandmother passed away a few years past, I was asked to speak at the ulogy. I have always found a way to see the beauty in all the events of my life but this was one time where it was a true challengs. I had gone through many things but no words were coming. finally i decided to read some of my old things for inspiration and came across a poem i wrote when a friend had lost someone very close. It harnessed for me all that i was feeling at that moment.
“Legacy of Love”
Although you are no longer with us
you have left us with a reminder
that love is all around us
and that I can love myself
your thoughts will always carry
through song, through voice
through action, through me
i will never forget you
i could not imagine my life without
your caring heart inside
your cord of life was cut too short
for you could have done so much more
i can only hope to carry on
the things you have left behind
your legacy will always live
within everyone you touched
and i will always be
your loving friend in life.

First, I’ve enjoyed reading through the comment section. Some of the videos people suggested were really good. Especially the one about Team Hoyt. It got me all teary-eyed.

One small that that brings me joy is smiling and being silly. It’s free and fun. Here’s a short documented moment of me doing just that.

Hey Allli-Mack,
Well, even though I’m a little late in getting in on this one, I think my comments might relate to your blog on “Teenagers with Dirty Hands” as well, but of a different sort…Anyways…I’m learning that joy isn’t simply circumstantial, but it is completed in & through diverse & sometimes difficult situations. Joy seems to be more than a emotional feel-good, it actually transcends present circumstances, beyond my physical state of self desire or gratification. It reach at the very depths of who I am, mentally, physically, & spiritually. Though I go through brokeness joy seems to be cultivated when allowed to rise from the ashes, the heart-soil that has been worked & prepared to produce a bountiful harvest, a character trait called joy, that continues to grow & blossom in & through the good, the bad, and the ugly seasons of life.

Hey Allison, I’m new here and I’m talking from Brazil… I hope it’s not too late to tell you that are a lot of people here who admire your work… I’m experiencing a moment of great difficulty. I am trained in physical therapy and specialized in acupuncture in three years and until now could not use any of them. My eight years engagement ended last week, my mother in law hated me and did everything to separate me from my fiancé (she succeeded at last), my biggest dream that is trying to go away from here to go work, I don’t know, there in the United States, Canada, Europe, wherever, is increasingly distant because I can not add money to buy a ticket and get go … Picture this… I am going through all this, but I have one thing in which I am supporting and it is on trust that everything will be good, that this is just another phase in my life and that in a moment I will receive my reward. Be happy for me is that, it’s being this, and I hope these words can help you and help people who are part of this site in any way. Thank you all and never abandon your ideals and dreams. Trust that everything is gonna be OK! Sorry about the terrible English, I totally need to practice it..
