Wheelchairs and World Peace

While most people are inspired by our courage in planning a trip to SE Asia with a child who uses a wheelchair, some people look at us oddly, and others ask outright, “Why would you add any more challenge to your already complicated lives?” We rely on the “universal answer” to why people do things: because we think the benefits will outweigh the costs.

In order to appreciate our challenges, it helps to understand Kasenya’s limitations.

    i felt a little inspired and uplifted by this blog :)
    it really is amazing!
    I dont understand why people would think of it as ‘odd’…
    i think learning about other culturs is important and valuable
    id love to travel
    and it shouldn’t matter if the child is disabled…
    maybe im just ‘ranting’
    but its nice how they state their purpose
    to explain to others… why
    hopefully to lift the blindfold from their eyes.

    The World is full of inspirational people!

    Every one of us has at least one problem that we’re trying to deal with, yet for me, there is nothing more inspiring than when you see a person or family whose problems dwarf your own, and they take their problems in their stride!

    It’s blogs like these that really kick me in the head and make me realise that the meagre problems that I may have are a drop in the ocean to most people. Yet almost all of them live their lives to the full, while most of us (including myself) hide behind insignificant things.

    Maybe its time we all step out from behind our selves and take a long deep breath of the fresh sweet World around us!

    Thanks Allison, I shall have this good mood all day now!

    That’s so touching! I’m often surrounded by the ‘it’s too hard, why bother?’ attitude, so it’s amazing to see some people who are willing to do a hard thing that’s worth the effort.

    Kasenya is so lucky to have such wonderful amazing parents. Most people with gifted children would never even think about going on a vacation. I think it’s great that her parents are giving her the opportunity to see a different part of the world. Just because you have a special gift doesn’t mean your life has to be any different then everyone else. Anything really is possible!

    ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE when you decide to do it.
    It’s a good example.
    This family found the positive side of their life. The wheelchair is not a part of the problem but a part of the solution.
    There are many peoples which would need a wheelchair to feel better in their lives.
    this family has managed to give a purpose and pride for their disabled child.
    It’s amazing
