Pinchin’ Hazard

Always read the signage.
It rarely leads you astray.
Unless it does.
And then it’s your own fault for paying attention.

Post some funny signage if you see it! Trust me it is everywhere!

The other day, Tabby and I were going down to Seattle and my credit card was rejected at the gas station. The little sign read: “Invalid Loyalties.” What? How random!

  • me Rachel

This will be SO fun. I can’t wait to go sign hunting.

  • Amanda

That was freakin’ hilarious! So something my friends and I would do. ;)

  • Wally West

Pinching hazard… =D I’m going up to Northern PA this weekend so I may find some hilarious signs. Will be back with pics soon =P

  • The Friday Philosopher

    Try this one!

    http://www.somers.k12.ct.us/~mporter/images/PolarBearIce.jpeg

I think perhaps everyone and his Mom has seen this image, but I don’t care! I can guarantee that if you’re feeling down, and nothing seems to pick you up, spend some time looking through images like these, and you’ll soon be right as rain!

I haven’t stopped laughing for days!

    Friday

I think this is one of the funnier ones I’ve seen!

The sign is in front of a store in a village in Mexico called Playa Del Carmen.

The sign reads “Sorry, We Are Open” … If you notice the carpet also reads “The Customer is Always Wrong”.

  • Gaia

Yeah! You two seem to rock together! Seattle must be awsome!

  • http://www.lizmoser.co.uk Elizabeth M

    Funny stuff!
My fave sign at the moment is where some one has written on the stop sign on the way to my cousins housel. It says STOP (obviously) but underneath someone has written “Hammertime!” I’ll have to go take a picture. Makes me smile every time I see it

  • Jeremy

    That’s very funny, Friday Philosopher.

My best friend and I drove across the United States a few years ago on one of those hell bent, shoestring road trips we often found ourselves on. As we were driving through Montana we came across this exit sign for “Bad Route Road”:

    http://img152.imageshack.us/img152/4682/badwg9.jpg

Why would you ever take this exit?

As we made our way to Minnesota, we stopped at the “Big Spunk Rest Area.”

    The things you see traveling…

Oh, and Allison, I see you’re on the Seabus. I love the Seabus! What a cool way to see Vancouver, along with the Aquabus that runs along False Creek.

    Cheers,

    Jeremy

jejejejejejejejeje, hehehehehehe, it’s too funny. Nice signage! Well I hope do this and send you the video. I don’t stop laughing. Have a nice day Allison Mack. Cuidate mucho. Adios.
    Billy.

  • Kyle

    Hilarious vid.

I need to get a picture of this but in Norway the word for speed is “fart,” and the word for bump is “dampner.” So when you see a speed bump sign it says “fart dampner.” Oh boy, did we have fun there.

Aww, your card was rejected? Gas must be really expensive there. :D

  • Stephanie

    Hilarious ..
I’m going to look for some weird signs here in the Netherlands!

  • http://www.daybow.com David Hayes

Hmmm. Friday’s sign is very similar to the one I saw.

    http://www.daybow.com/image_files/Watch_For_Mice.jpg

  • Medina

    : ]

  • Leanne

I saw a sign in China saying ‘collapsing is prohibited in this area’ what is that all about, maybe u could collapse a few feet away from the sign!!!

  • The Friday Philosopher

That’s no laughing matter David! Those Giant Arctic Mice are deadly. One almost had my arm off once! ;)

The purpose of a sign is to inform the reader of something that he or she would not have known without reading it. For example, the opening times of the local super market, the fact that your car will be clamped and towed if you park it illegally, or the most important signs of all; those warning of hazards!

    Like this one!

This next particular specimen, is no less than ten minutes drive from my home, it is very dear to me. Not only does it adequately depict the exact intelligence level of most of my government but it also shows exactly what they used the last tax increase on!

    http://farm1.static.flickr.com/9/143733824_477aff1e69.jpg

That sign is in the countryside. They get worse the closer you get to the nations capital!

I hope you enjoy the stupidity of my government as much as I do!

everyday I see crazy signs that make me laugh. Now i wish i carried my camera around with me everywhere i go. Even the place names are funny over here in Britain. I live near a village called No place. my favourite village names however would have to be ‘Ham’ and ‘Sandwich’…
here’s a picture of the sign post: http://www.giddylimits.co.uk/images/signs/Ham_Sandwich_Sign.jpg

i also found a funny sign on the internet from vancouver: http://images.javasigns.com/images/funny_sign_3.jpg….enjoy :D

    My favorite is always:

    Slow Children
    At Play

and I picture all these poor souls…not the brightest…attempting unsuccessfully to play ball.

What is that huge book in your arms? It’s not Shantaram, is it?

  • http://www.daybow.com David Hayes

    Jennygirl,

What is especially sad is when there is also a sign saying “No Outlet” … because then the slow children can’t even watch TV! NO SMALLVILLE! Oh, the humanity!

  • Ian

There used to be a site with alot of real phones of these signs (no photoshoped) but can’t find it.

  • http://www.daybow.com David Hayes

… and it’s good to see that Allison has had plenty of practice in case she gets called to do a Special K commercial.

Hey, it’s my first post here! Woo hoo!

  • Robin Hebert

I can’t seem to post a link, but on my flickr site, I have a pic of a sign on the ferry which says accessible void…..
I thought, hmmmm, not only is it a void, but its accessible….wow!!

  • Kathy

You are being such a nudge :) :)

The poor girl was just sitting there and you had to pinch her :) :)

You must be a riot to hang out with :) :)

  • Kris

Don’t know if the place is still there or not, but my school bus used to go by an autobody shop. The sign read “Dick’s Garage: Parking in rear”

When I was in Borneo waaayyyy back in college we had fun withe the wacky English translations on the signs. The sign for the firehose in the hotel hallway read “Hose reel/Wet Riser”

  • Namaste

Hahaha, I see these types of things all the time, cause I live in Japan ^_^ We foreigners call it “Engrish,” when Japanese signs are not properly translated into English. My favorite by far is a sign that was placed next to a pond that read, ” DANGER, if you fall in pond you will be boiled.” I LOL so hard that I cried seeing this.

This was funny and that would so totally be me. I’ll look for a funny sign and if I find one I’ll post it.

Hey Allison I have a question for you. Your May 5th blog “A Challenge” you said “I am working on building a montage of all my favorite videos so that I can share this cool stuff with the world!” Did you ever put together a collection of your favorites that everyone posted?

  • http://smallville.cz/ BetonMAN

Who is playing isn’t annoying. :-D

  • Audra

Wow, as soon as I saw the vid it made me think of the “I Pinch” commercials Honda did a few years back. This little crab goes around trying to pinch things LOL. I find it frikken hilarious! But then again I have an odd sense of humor.

Namaste’s post reminds me when GE started marketing products in China. Their translator didn’t do a precise job translating their moto into Chinese. Instead of reading “We bring good things to life,” I read “We bring your dead ancestors back from the grave.”

  • Romina

That is so funny!! It sure added a smile to my day. :) You poor friend got pinched a lot though!!! Did she get you back?

Some of you may know of a Chinese food buffet franchise called Foody Goody, not exactly known for its healthy eating. Checking online I see some branches still exist but not as many as there used to be. During a time when construction was being done around the now long defunct Victoria branch, a sign read, “Yes! Foody Goody is open during the construction. Sorry for the inconvenience.”
