The Greenest Person in the World!!!

You know how you have those people in your life that inspire you to do more? To be a better you? To take more time to pay attention to the life you are living and the way you are living it? Those people who don’t ever lecture or tell you what you are doing wrong, they simply live in a way the is graceful and honorable.

    I find it truly inspirational that there are people who really care enough to have the welfare of the planet at hart, and are doing, not just talking.
    Emily definitely has my vote.
    Also i would like to ask you a quick question, have you ever started a project and were compleatly overwhelmed by the scope of it you became lost.
    If so how did you find your way back and ground yourself again?

    It always inspires me to see people who care on a global scale. We should all think this way; there is nothing more frustrating than the efforts a few visionary people being thwarted by those that are too stubborn to change.

    It’s also hard to believe that even now, after all the drastic weather changes the World has seen that some people still refuse to believe in Global Warming. Even if it is a lie, what purpose would the people who created it have? Greener living can’t do any harm! It might save governments money, but that will get put back into the community eventually.

    I suppose the only question we should be asking ourselves is; can we really afford to take the risk? After all, this is the only planet we have!

    In my opinion, all five of the contenders deserve our votes, but because I could only give it to one, I gave it to Emily.

    Another coincidence. I have worms in my house. Unfortunately, they aren’t into composting. Maybe they would be, but they don’t get a chance. My 3 dogs find every scrap of garbage … or food that wasn’t ready to be garbage and eat it. Then they make compost piles all over the place. I guess I should have named at last one of them Red Wiggler. I also have at least one relative that runs on an alternative fuel — alcohol … and because of that, he has to use public transportation or walk.

    Remember, the best form of recycling is re-use! That’s why I try to recycle as many old jokes as I can.

    Hey Allison I voted for her. I voted for Emily in the first round too when I saw her video on GBD. Emily is an amazing woman and between her video and my one friend I have started to live a green life a bit. I started recycling,using those energy saving light bulbs and even made my own green cleaning products. Now I tell everyone I know to GO GREEN!

    When I voted, I saw that Emily is in the lead presently. I doubt any of the others in the contest could surpass her votes with friends like you and Kristen supporting her! She really is an inspiration.

    Alright…about 10 years ago…used to compost with worms in my classroom (kids loved it) kitchen waste from the cafeteria..and kids would eat apples and bananas as lunch so they could put their peels and cores in as well. But I did end up with a few gnats…which…we were also hatching chickens…which then would chase the gnats…and then I got a little overwhelmed as it felt like nature was taking over my classroom.

    But it was fun! I enjoyed the worm composting. I just do the old fashioned composting now…and it’s just outside my house…as I am not as diligent…so it does stink sometimes.

    It’s not easy being green….sorry, I was thinking about Kermit for some strange reason. :)

    I think we should be responsible for how we live. I have no problem with recycling, less chemicals, and alternative fuel. However, I’m not buying any carbon credits anytime soon. And, I’m still not convinced that global warming is anything other than a natural phenomenon.

    Having said that , I am very impressed that someone so young is so dedicated to what she feels is right. That is certainly something we need more of.

    Just a word of caution. Ever see how hot it gets in a compost pile? I have had a couple friends with mulch beds around their house that caught fire spontaneously. Mulch can begin composting if caution isn’t taken. I think it needs to be raked and not just added to year after year, but I’m not certain. But check into the fire risks if you are into mulching around your house.

    Emily seems to be a very sincere person who is genuinely committed to the environment. She also seems to be skilled in the gentle art of self promotion… of course, there’s nothing wrong with that, but I can’t help thinking that the “greenest person on the planet” is almost certainly some anonymous subsistence farmer in sub-Saharan Africa, living with no bicycle, no public transportation, no electricity, and no opportunity for air travel, no matter how infrequent.

    I don’t want to rain on anyone’s parade, but I feel the need to point out this bit of environmental hyperbole.

    I’m all for being green. I compost (in the back yard, not the kitchen!) an I have never owned a car. Every time I take public transportation though, that bus or train burns fuel and emits carbon. When I ride my bike, it’s a bike made of steel, aluminum, and rubber… all of which has to be manufactured.

    I guess what I’m getting at is that we can limit our impact on the environment, but we can’t eliminate it. And we shouldn’t kid ourselves.

    A lot of environmental concern finds expression, ironically, in consumerism. Buying plastic recycling bins, tee shirts with a picture of the globe on them (printed with soy ink!) the sale of which is somehow intended to protect seals or save the whales.

    Frankly, it’s all a bit bizarre.

    One of the oddest sights I see is the regular departure of diesel-powered cruise boats (some of them run by legitimate environmental organizations) cruising out to Stellwagen bank to view the whales, making expressly banned “deliberate close approaches” to the feeding whales so that the environmentally concerned ticket holders can snap pictures.

    I voted, and on a completely unrelated topic that I thought you might enjoy…

    Do you ever lie on the ground and watch clouds go by imagining all kinds of things they look like? I think everybody on the planet has done it, but not so much as “grown ups.” I’ve caught myself getting lost in the clouds lately, and today I saw one that made me snort I laughed so hard. There were a few fluffy ones going by and kind of intermingling as the wind pushed them. While I watched them change shape, I swear it looked like the Geico Gecko playing the violin. It was very fun, and I’m going to try to spend more time cloud watching. It’s a great way to exercise the imagination.

    I think it’s awesome that someone can decide to try his/her best to save the planet, to live the life as green as he/she could but i can’t help feeling a bit hypocrite if i say that this is the way we have to act and meanwhile i still using my car, my mobile, aircrafts to travel,…
    Also i have to say that not always the green way is the best (let me explain it better) i have a lot of doubts about biodiesel, a lot of people have seen their food portion reduced because this diesel is “better” because it contaminates less but i think it’s more important to feed people.
    I am not saying we don’t have to do anything, this is not my purpose, we have a lot of things to change if we want to save our planet!!!! so let’s do it but being honest with ourselves.

    Hey Allison, in my high school we have a Green Team which got teh whoel school to clean our school yard! There was barb wire and other things taht could harm teh animals. Yes, I see deer everyday! I voted! I wish I had connections with these wonderful people, you have such great friends! Brittany
