Evening of Learning

I spent the evening with one of our finest Smallvillian directors, buying drinks and picking his brain! However, the consequence of this is pre-mature exhaustion and a brain that is solely equipped at choosing wine and telling random travel stories.

So in lieu of a riveting discussion and philosophical post I will simply say this:

Life is beautiful and for those that refuse to recognize this, I am sad. But, I will continue to make art, tell jokes, drink wine, and share stories. Because we are a divine species with infinite potential and never ending surprise.

Cheers
xo

Never let anyone bring you down, Allison! You’re an awesome woman who has great insights and wisdom beyond your years. Anyone would be honored to call you “friend” or “wife”!!

  • Neil

And I count you as “friend”! Always ….

    Neil

  • Bethy

    I definitely agree with Neil!

The whole point of life, I think, is to have fun and be satisfied at whatever you’re doing!

You’re as awesome as ever don’t let anyone tell ya otherwise :)

  • taylor nikole

    like i said before :)
amen sista to life is beautiful!

hmm tonight we wanted to try a new indian restaurant! the food was great, but not exactly sitting well in my stomach at the moment :)
oh well if the food is great…eat it!

some people say life is a test….
    some people disagree.
Well if its a test, its the best damn test ive ever gotten the chance to take!
No matter what life is, it should always be cherished and celebrated.
Its the greatest gift… in my opinion…

    <3 taylor nikole

  • Kyle

Yes, you are right. Life is beautiful, a gift and so many other things. Unfortunately, some will disagree mostly because of difficult circumstances and/or harsh backgrounds.

I look to the day when everyone agrees life is beautiful, and hopefully appreciates it as much as you do.

  • Lydia

I’m glad you had such a wonderful evening.

You are right, life is incredibly beautiful, surprising and enchanting, with its ups and downs.

I’m in the process of rebuilding my life, I’m reinventing myself with newfound positivity, self-confidence, happiness and inner peace. I’m on a beautiful journey.:-)

Please, continue to live joyfully and do all the things that you like to do, stay true to yourself, don’t do anything you don’t feel good about and don’t give up on your dreams.
I’m sure that your positive attitude and zest for life will be inspiring for many people.

    Have a joyful weekend.

Seldom of few words, all I can say is keep it simple simon, While I’m one of the first to jump into a raging debate,

we will always have more questions than answers so have a break rest and just live a fucken tremendious life that when the time comes you can look back on and be proud of!
That is all, lets just keep it simple simon! (“keep it simple simon” is a wicked short novel)

Thats all no circles of debate from this kid tonight!

p.s interesting fact; did you know Michael Pheleps has more Gold medals personally than New Zealand (my country) has in the last 50 Years; I mean WOW!………….. not really a place for me to speal on sport here is it ;)

  • Ana C.

Are you intimidated when you are around other directors since you know that your own directing time is coming up? Just curious wonderings…

I love the discussions you’re carrying on here, they’re very mind opening. I just don’t really participate in them because some of your topics surprisingly make me draw blanks. Or they make me think so much into it I just don’t know exactly what to reply or how to phrase my own opinions. I’m telling you= Mind Boggling!
    :D

  • arash

    I agree with roberto benigni;
    “life is beautiful”
Sometimes the same way as he saw it.
I am still in yesterday’s blog, want to say hello to our little friend (line borrowed from scar face) melissa.

You see melissa, peru or spain you’ll always be a part of our community. I have travelled myself and lived in a few different countries. Canada is home, but I am planing to move soon again just for a few years. When I was doing my 2 years of service in the special forces in Army (mostly security, peace keeping and law inforcement) anytime they needed a volunteer I was the first to go. You never knew what was waiting for you, and that was what I liked about it. I have seen places and people which I would never choose to go and see on my own time, yet it has been the most amazing part of my life. Change can be scary sometimes but we are like waves in a sea, we are alive as long as we move. I am sure we all want to see that positive energy is bringing your drawings back to life. Do it for us Okay ?

    Slainte, Ms. Mack.

You’re a rare person and don’t you ever forget it.

  • Sam

    Great summary of your blogs!
Life is beautiful, that’s what you say in your posts.

  • Kirk D. aka “SPARTACUS”

    Ditto! Here, here! Alli-Mack.
Life is a beautiful thang, ment to be explored, enjoyed, cultivated, and shared with others in the only way that you/we individuals know how…so live it up and live it to the fullness that it was ment to be lived. To not do so, is to rob yourself and others of a truly divine experience.
Remember, nothing comes to sleepers and dreamers, but a dream.

I totally agree, life is beautiful. But we have to learn to appreciate it more often, in spite of having ups and downs. Life is that; a beautiful journey.

Family and friends are our strongpoint and we must to appreciate them too, because they help us in this journey

So, I hope you have a beautiful weekend and a beautiful journey :D

  • DEFORT

Yes devil take it easier to live, love lives, to not think about tomorrow and all we go to drink wine!!! And not only!!!

  • Kris

I’m a new bumpersticker junkie on facebook, and I found this one last night, which is entirely appropriate for the topic of today’s blog. Hope you don’t wake up with a hangover ;)

“Life’s journey is not to arrive at the grave in a well preserved body. But rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting, “HOLY SHIT…WHAT A RIDE!”

  • http://www.daybow.com David Hayes

I am wondering if, at this moment, you are happy that your chance to direct was delayed a year to give you this time to think about it and study?

As to the subject of this blog and to diverisity and personal perspectives, I’ll just say something old that I personally agree with: Beauty is in the eye of the bee holder. … And, if you’ve ever held a bee, you know how painful that can be.

  • Jennifer

Life is short, life’s a bitch but most importantly life is beautiful. Glad to hear you had a nice evening Allison.

  • Gail

I have had a few tragedies happen in my life, but when I look into the beautiful eyes of my six-year old daughter I realize that each day I am alive makes it all worth it!

  • The Friday Philosopher

You’re all right. Life is beautiful, sometimes scary, sad or even devastating, but still beautiful!

On the subject of the Human Race being a divine species with infinite potential and never ending surprise, I’m not sure if any of you have managed to check out the news over the last few days, but there was one particular story that jumped out at me!

On Thursday, in the Bronx section of New York, an off duty, pregnant police officer was tragically hit by a bus, and pinned underneath. What caught my attention was the fact that within seconds of this happening, 30 or more complete strangers came together, managed to co-ordinate their efforts, and lift the entire bus long enough for the emergency services to get the woman out.

These people didn’t know her, they didn’t even know each other, yet they knew that only if they worked as a team would this woman have any chance of surviving.

Sadly she later died, but thanks to the efforts of these anonymous heroes, and her shear determination, she managed to give birth to her Son, before she this happened. I’m not ashamed to say that this story brought a tear to my eye.

I know this event doesn’t exactly have a happy ending, but I think it shows just what miracles the Human race could achieve, if only we put aside our petty differences and worked together!

    Friday

P.S. Allison, I’m sure you will be an amazing Director. You already have one advantage; you are a great actor who knows what you expect from yourself.

I’m sure that you’re co-workers respect you as much as we do and as a result will work as hard as they can for you!
Just make sure you remember to have fun, after all fun is one of life’s most effective forms of medicine! It will cure almost anything.

  • arash

    I loved how jennifer discribed life;
    “A short beautiful bitch”.

  • Jackie

    Well Said Allison!! : )
Oh…..by the way, if you do happen to be reading this comment I was wondering if you knew when Smallville season 7 comes out on DVD. I heard September 9th but I’m not sure. Sorry, I know it has nothing to do with this blog. I was just thinking and this popped into my mind! l8rs! : )

  • Heather

All I can say is that I completely agree. Life is so amazingly beautiful, and every second presents something and needs to be enjoyed to the fullest.

Very well said :) I love this place!

  • The Friday Philosopher

Jackie, there is no official date as of yet, as far as I can tell, but all of the online sites are stocking them from the 9th of September!

Hope this is of use to you!

    Friday

  • Aubrey

I’m happy to hear you had a wonderful evening Allison!

    Lydia couldn’t have said it better myself;
please continue to live happily and have a positive outlook in life. Live your dreams. Don’t give up. Never let anything bring you down.
Make the most out of your life. Always remember to have fun, even though sometimes it can make you look like a dork. :P

And another good thing is, happiness and a positive attitude can be contagious too! =)

Hope you have a fantastic weekend Allison!

    xoxo

Hey, to be honest it’s quite nice to have a break from philosophical discussion once in a while!
I know circumstances play a part, perhaps not wealth or poverty so much as other hardships, but there is some truth in the saying that life is what you make it.
May your life continue to be beautiful, as you continue to make art, tell jokes, drink wine, and share stories.
    Thanks for sharing with us.
    Carol x
And David, keep those jokes coming!

  • Ant

One of my favourite ever quotes:

“We are going to die, and that makes us the lucky ones. Most people are never going to die because they are never going to be born. The potential people who could have been here in my place but who will in fact never see the light of day outnumber the grains of sand in Arabia. Certainly those unborn ghosts include greater poets than Keats, scientists greater than Newton. We know this because the set of possible people allowed by our DNA so massively exceeds the set of actual people. In the teeth of these stupefying odds it is you and I, in our ordinaryness, that are here.”
    - Richard Dawkins, “Unweaving the Rainbow”

Life is indeed beautiful and it always makes me smile when I meet others who appreciate this. Just felt like sharing!

  • Maria

I totally agree with you!! Of course Life is beautiful! And it’s ok to take a break of philisophical conversation and just really say it simple and clear! Life is beautiful and Allison that is one of the things I totally admire about you, you see thing life in such a beautiful way!! And you don’t care what people say about you, you are who you are!! So keep sharing stories, drinking wine, making art and telling jokes!! Keep being who you are!

    XoXo

    Maria

  • Melissa

Hi Allison, you know it’s not bad to be sad because that’s what make us humans,it’s one of the laws of life, being happy, sad, tired, uncorfortable, etc, etc……we are very lucky to feel those feelings that makes us be alive,it makes us grow personally,it makes us see that nobody is perfect, not even myself, because we are humans making things that maybe in the future we’ll regret but then we’ll be thankful to get trought those things that make us see that everything is not “good” as you expect it to be…..it’s “AWESOME”……..just being yourself, feel what you wanna feel, and don’t forget the people around you that support you and will always love you and trust you.HAVE A UNCREDIBLE DAY ALLISON AND ALL OF YOU IN THIS BLOG.
Oh and by the way I’m taking my time about the whole drawing thing,I’m so in the mood to start drawing again,I’ve already come up with such a great ideas of my futures draws,ok,so I’m on it.
    Bye,Melissa.

  • http://Allisonmack.com Smallvillekent

Allison , I agree life is beautiful. The good days definitely out number the bad ones. Your blogs and your acting always brings a smile to my face. I’m sure your directing will do the same. Lets all drink a glass of wine and enjoy the beautiful weekend. Keep on learning. One of your blog friends. Peter

  • I’m Rachel

    Yup,it sure is :D

  • Melissa

Nobody’s is better that other, everybody has that something that makes us different….unique….and you have an incredible talent Allison, you don’t have to feel less better than others just because they are good at what they do,like directors, they are just like you, they have an incredible skill at what they do just like you or me,or others,we are unique and special, just because we aren’t as good as they are at their skill that doesn’t mean that we suck,NOT!!!! because we can do other things that they can’t do as well as us……everybody is different and unique……at the end we are all humans trying to have a freaky and awesome day!!!!!!!!! Keep doing what you do,because you’re great at it.
    Bye,Melissa.

  • taylor nikole

    kyle:
I actually agree with this thinking about it now

“Unfortunately, some will disagree mostly because of difficult circumstances and/or harsh backgrounds.”

And then… getting a little deeper into it the subject than necessary….
is there beauty in abuse, torture, and loveless lives? (which people have no control over)
Where would we draw the line for being sad for someone not having the ability to realize?….
if you get what I mean…

  • Gail

If there were no sadness in our lives we would have nothing to compare it to. Everyday life is not perfect, nor will it ever will be. But it takes the bad to appreciate the good!

  • Marilyne

Short, simple but beautiful! this is so true, I’m so impressed and amazed by us as people! love the “in lieu”..hihihi au lieu de….instead of…nah…in lieu of! :D

  • arash

Life always looks more beautiful through an empty glass of fine wine. :)

    And I liked what melissa said;

“We are all Unique”, and that’s what we all have in common.

  • Vegas911

Well said Allison, well said!!! I think that life should be drank like a fine glass of wine, slow and deliberate, soaking up all the flavors and rushing to all the senses. Enjoyed to the fullest, and when the last sip has flowed past the pallet, a warm dream like haze covers your eyes and blissful sleep awaits.

  • skahahoo

I like taylor nikole’s question…because I can’t leave simple truths well enough alone. lol.

I don’t think suffering is beautiful, but I think our ability to rise above suffering is. In fact, I think that’s one of the most beautiful things about us – that some of us can endure some truly unspeakable things, and still emerge from that stronger and wiser, and even able to forgive. So for those who can’t see the beauty of life because of their circumstances, I feel sad that they’re suffering, but I have hope that they’ll come out on other side, better for having gone through that.

  • http://allisonmack.com Lori Bennett

amen sister, that we are! what kind of wine, i prefer an older red-anyway those who choose not to use their mind often develop illnesses of the brain later in their life-that is sad i agree. why waste such an incredible thing. the knowledge and depth one can have if chose to keep their mind young and constantly retaining information is one of the most valued possessions we are fortunate to have control over. thank you allison for getting that point out there. i totally agree!!!

  • skahahoo

And I really like that Richard Dawkins quote. Thanks Ant! :)

  • Kamil Karaszewski

I would not be so sure about this .

,,Life is beautiful and for those that refuse to recognize this, I am sad. ”

There might be many reasons why some1 can say that life is not so beautiful as you think about it Allison . Ask some poor poeple about who have to beg for food or money . It depends from our material and money status that firnly makes us happy or gives us things which makes us happy .

    Greetz :)

  • taylor nikole

    skahahoo

    That’s exactly right…
not only should your own life be cherished but every other life which surrounds you (no matter how bad their circumstances may be).

“Life is beautiful and for those that refuse to recognize this, I am sad.”

this was what really got me thinking though… this one sentence.
Which brought me to my question…
What if someone never got the chance to have the realization? Is this ‘sad feeling just for people who have potential from the beginning to realize the beauty in life?
Some people say… that in the midst of facing death… after a long life (maybe)… people realize the beauty in life… how much they felt when they knew they most likely had long lives ahead of them…

sorry, this just brings me into so much more…
    hahah and im babbling:)
but I was up late last night in bed… thinking it over for some reason

    <3 taylor nikole
