Elinor Roosevelt

I am reading an Elinor Roosevelt biography right now and holy fuck was she ever amazing!

Just to share a quick quote from her book:

I love having heroes and role models. People who forged a path that you want to walk!

    role model as in… older (than me) female actress whom i aspire to, not exactly be like… but take as an example..
    and you just seem to be like an all around chill person :)
    like every other person who ive met who has posted on here…

    not so much as having a hero but more of an admiration for one given person or more.

    Id have to say my heros are my friends… they keep me sane :)
    without a role model… I could still be something, but without my heros I would be nothing… in my opinion :)

    Heroes & role models??

    My grandmother, whom we lost prematurely to lung cancer (DON’T SMOKE, AND IF YOU DO, QUIT!), was always subconsciously my hero & role model after my mother died when I was 4. In my adulthood, I’ve become aware at how hard I try to be just like her–to give a smile or a laugh to everybody I meet, to never quit when faced with adversity, to encourage people to be better and to choose to make the most of what you have, and to absolutely find joy every day.

    And then of course there’s Superman :)

    Ay, I’m ashamed of my self. I can’t even remember the last book I really read! Lately I’ve been trying to commit myself to one good book. Sounds like the biography of Eleanor Roosevelt is a good one.

    Heroes and role models: uhmm… growing up, I’ve always considered superman to be my hero and role model… it’s not because he can fly, shoot fire, etc. But because of his undying faith in the human race. No matter what they did to him, he was still so kind and so generous to them. I remember wondering is there are people like that in the world.

    Chloe to Clark: “If more people would be like you, the world would be a better place” (sigh, love that scene)

    Also, my parents, I admire them because they are so generous. Always going out of their way to help someone. To me, kindness and generosity are the most important qualities a person could have.

    And I must say, Allison, you’ve also became my role model. Not as an actress, since I’ve never acted before, aside from faking sickness so that my parents would let me miss school, lol; though you are a fantastic actress! But as a person… you’re soo intelligent and passionate about life. It’s amazing!

    This a beautiful quote. I hadn’t read this one yet. I like many of Eleanor Roosevelt’s quotes and I’d like to read her biography too.

    I’m a little confused, what is it with ‘Elinor’?

    My role models (my mom, you, Tabby, Kristin, Mariska Hargitay, …) have helped become the woman I am today and they are constantly inspiring me.
    There has been a moment though where I felt sad because I envied their lives. These extraordinary women are positively influencing people’s lives and I want to make a difference and help people.
    Sometimes I do have this ‘oh-I-wish’ feeling but, I give it a positive turn, I truly want to live life and I continue to build a life of my own and be a good person to everyone around me, inspired by my role models.

    My role models is my mom, When she was eleven years old she fell in love and married my dad. They’ve been happily married every since. In a world like we live in you don’t find that too often, but my husband and I want to be just like my parents. Even though they are older they still call each other and plan dates. It’s the sweetest thing ever.
    My father is also my role model because growing up he lived in a plantation in southern GA. His parents had plenty of money and plenty of people who worked for them. They even had a butler. When my father turned 13 within a couple of months he lost both his parents. Being the youngest of 18 kids all the oldest got the money and my dad was sent from Alabama to Florida from one relative to the next. He lived out of cars and worked everyday at such a young age he learned what it was to have to work and struggle for his next meal. But he never gave up. He has worked hard every since until he had a heart attack about four years ago. My parents are amazing people that over came a lot in there lives but never gave up on living it to it’s fullest.

    the only books i mainly read are stephen king. thats all i mainly collect. i cant find any books to be honest to find and i try to if u have any ideas or anyone on here that can help me that be sweet. and as for my rolemodel i would have to say my parents cause if it wasnt for them well as probobly many of u know i am disabled and they always tell me to not look at the chair and to do what any able body human can do. so i consider them my role model.

    Definitely powerful words, I remember reading her book awhile ago. But it is noteworthy, and should be taken to heart.

    Oddly enough, I am barely just starting my journey in life. This time last year, I was in New Mexico & Arizona, visiting with family. And I learned so much, fromy many people young, and those who’ve seen their life unfold.

    I am a bird, but I haven’t been able to fly. I really want to learn, but there are so many things keeping me on the ground.

    Hi Allison I love your website, I always have to check it out when i’m online. I dont really have one particular role model, though I have a diary which contains a quote for each day (including several from Eleanor Roosevelt) which I find very inspiring. I look up to my own family too, particularly my Nan who has had to put up with many illnesses during her life. No matter how frail she is on the outside she has a strong and unbreakable spirit. I would also count you as role model as you are such a fantastic, generous woman with a thirst for life.

    Anyway on the Olympics can you just let us know your thoughts on the opening ceremonies, where the girl who sang the anthem wasn’t allowed to be on screen as she was deemed not pretty enough, and was replaced by someone who was lip syncing. I think it’s a disgrace but maybe I’m not looking at all the sides of the argument. Are you exposed to that sort of behavior in your line of work, and how does that affect you as an actress?

To me, my heroes are the ones I look up to, the ones that I admire for their hard work, their amazing talents and definetly who they are.
