na very good, I agree with above while quotes and definition can be educating and inspiring we shouldn’t limit ourselves to them; not that I’m saying people do, don’t get me wrong quotes can often hit the nail on the head of your thoughs or help you to your feet when someone or something kick you behind the knee…..

art is communcating through various means, ie, not solely through text.

it’s creating something from zero.

it’s being inspired by little things.

it can be a way of catharsis, both for the artist and the watcher.

it can be a way of expressing difficult or unconscious thoughts and feelings.

for some, it’s a way of making the world a more beautiful place, by creating something beautiful.

for others, it’s for making a statement about today’s society, putting forth uncomfortable truths that most of us try to deny they exist.

it’s a way of opening one’s horizon’s and seeing things in a different light.

hence at least for the audience, it contributes to accepting different cultures/ideas/beleifs and makes us more open and why not, empathetic, even.

it’s a means of exploration.

i found that most of the times,at least lately i was the latter, hence i decided to quit being an artist. at least until i found the right motives to make art again…

If I might make a comment on a conversation that took place between Jendi and Taylor Nikole; Jendi asked “what’s a community???? Does it have to have a common interest or function???”

If I could answer that question, I would say that a true community doesn’t have to have common interests or functions, in my opinion, all you need is a group of people who show respect to each other regardless of whether they are able to agree with one another’s views or not!

And if I’m not mistaken, isn’t that what we Allison Mack fans are already doing?

Art is a way we express ourselves wether it is through a painting,photograph,dance or sculpture. Art moves you,excites you, challenges you and inspires you. Art is beautiful.

Not-art, as opposed to knot-art (I will try to avoid getting tied up in macramé). Puffy, I don’t think we have to have a definition that excludes anything as art. All we have to do is to personally accept or reject certain expressions of art that we find offensive, unskillful, or uninteresting. I think it is a mistake when groups embrace a certain painting, book, or whatever, just because some person or persons say it is great art. If I don’t like it, I don’t want to pretend to. Perhaps I’ll change my view at some point in my life, or maybe I won’t. Maybe others will come to my view?

Stina, I find that such a courageous statement! I want to ask you: If you went ahead with your artistic endeavors, feeling the way you do, might you not find that it has value in spite of your motives? I, of course, have no understanding of where you’re actually coming from in your personal experience, but I think that most of us who have ever tried doing something artistic, in the hopes of making money from it, have had a mixture of selfish and unselfish motives for our creations. I hope you work it out. It sounds like you might create some pretty good art.

But Friday would you not say that this site people have a common interest or function??? whether it be a fan of the superman show or to challenge ourselves mentally??? I agree that this is like a community but there is a common goal or function at play????

Art is the very form of illustration which human creates and expresses. Art comes in a very different form of pictures, drawings, writings, singing, crafting, paintings, acting and more. Art is so beautiful because it speaks of beautified nature of existence in the human mind to create such extraordinary output. I believe that each and every individual has the ability to create something artistic; perhaps some of us are more in tune with this gift.

Art is the expression of life. Art is eloquent and original; art is difficult.

I’m not sure what art is. I know what I like, but I can’t necessarily tell you what I’m reacting to. Right now I’m listening to Judy singing “Over the Rainbow”. That’s pretty good.

Although the art I like tends to be beautiful, I don’t think art HAS to embody beauty in the traditional sense, as in aesthetically pleasing to the eyes or ears, etc. I think some of the best art presents a fresh perspective and connects with people on a deep level. I guess if I had to define art, I’d say it was any creative form of expression that presents a point of view, and perhaps tries to engage the audience is some way.

Art is the pieces of Heaven left on Earth. When we express our creativity we make the world’s atmosphere a little better, meaning peoples’ thoughts and emotions. Art frees us and challenges us at the same time. Art is beauty even though it always isn’t “nice.” True art lead to redemption. Yet there’s no clear beginning or end to it. Art is simple and complex at the same time. And that’s exactly what makes it so cool.

To me, art is a sensory expression of one’s true inner self. Through art, one can learn a lot about the artist–and the artist will learn a lot about themselves. That’s what makes it so beautiful, exciting, provocative, and sometimes, downright scary. To be a great artist requires courage. An artist opens themselves up, and puts themselves “out there”, to be judged by those of us who may not be as brave.
