I agree with this quote, it is so important to strive for the next point along the road and not to slip into the background. However that’s easy to stay but in the past I have seen it happen. Where people have become envious over missed opportunities, and others just figured they had tried long enough and became comfortable. I was brought up to believe you do your best, never give up, and always strive for better.
In the end isn’t that’s what life’s about?

I will comment on one part of the quote … about not waiting for inspiration.

Julia Cameron wrote her book “The Artists Way” about getting around writer’s block. She said that many writers fall into a trap where they deal that they can’t work at all unless they are inspired … or drunk or high. She asks her readers commit to a routine of wrting for the sake of writing to keep the flow going and to learn to access their resources whenever they want to. An example might be people who want to run in a marathon. If they want to do well, they don’t just get inspired and run a marathon when one is scheduled that sounds like something they would like to do. They have to stay fit and ready by exercising and running so that they can participate at their best when the time comes.

I’ll admit that I didn’t finish the book or do the recommended exercises. My problem at the time the book was suggested was that I was writing continually … even when I needed to be doing other things. Suggesting that book to me then was like giving a laxative to someone with diarrhea (and this ISN’T the first time my writing has been compared to diarrhea).

As to paying attention, I’m not sure I can afford to pay for attention at this time.

And society’s kiss … I had to learn to do without that decades ago.

Clenching … hmmm.

I don’t agree with you David.

I’ve read almost everything you have written, and I wouldn’t say it was Diarrhoea.

I don’t think you give yourself enough credit. I’m not shy, if it wasn’t good, I would tell you so.

whoa. I’m kinda messed up this morning. I almost get it, but that kinda threw my head through a loop. I think it got stuck too.

I guess, just don’t be lazy or something like that.

With so much food for thought on this site, shouldn’t there be a warning that reading it may result in getting a fat head?

Maybe we can have a food for the body blog soon and share recipes.

And Friday, I’m 20/20 crrected vision again but I still have a purple methane bubble in my eye that reflects light in strange ways (very annoying) and I still have to sleep specific ways until the bubble is gone. The plus side is that I can tell from the bubble if I am on the level or not.

You get run down without adequate sleep.
In sleep your muscles grow and repair from exercise…bodyfat redeuces…brain revitalizes.

Micheal J. Fox attributed his current health problems at least in part to the fact that he was shooting the TV show FAMILY TIES during the day and working on BACK TO THE FUTURE at night.

The funny thing is…even successful people in the arts often get no respect.

Look at the movie MISS POTTER…concerning the life of Beatrix Potter.

Many people including her mother were dismissive of her efforts.

Even herself to a certain extent…as she was hesitant to inquire as to her royalty earning…would it be…enough…someday
…to allow her to get her own house?

The answer?

Several in town and in the country if she wanted.

good slogin “stay eager.” i like that. i think we should be a part of the world (do things worth while), not simply exist in it for the short time we have while in it. that is my philosophy for tonight.

This is an awesome quote for me lately. I’ve lost interest in pretty much everything I used to love or that inspired me. My art teacher has started to inspire me to keep working on things, and that will help me get past whatever’s holding me back. If she hadn’t had said anything, I would still have a half finished painting of Johnny Cash sitting in my room. Now it’s 3/4 finished instead. But the point is that inspiration can be literally anything. Something someone says, does, doesn’t do, believes in, etc. Anything that crosses your mind is worthy of a song or a painting, if you let it be. Most of what we see or think we dismiss as irrelevent while we wait for some huge event as inspiration. Some of the best songs are written when someone was inspired by little things, and some of the cheesiest are when someone’s inspired by a huge event.

I lived in Wellington, Ohio when I was graduated from High School. The favorite son of that town was Archibald Willard. Painted furniture was a big thing in his day and he painted carriages, furniture and murals in local houses. On the 4th of July one year, he saw some men dressed up in the local parade as injured soldiers returning from war. One played a drum, one played a fife and one carried a flag. He thought they looked pretty hayseed and he did a cartoon of them and called it “Yankee Doodle.” A friend saw it and liked it and said that it was a good subject but he should treat it as a serious subject rather than as a joke. Mr. Willard took his advice and painted his first of several paintings of the three men. The paintings are titled “The Spirit of 76.” You may not think you are familiar with it, but if you look it up on the net, I think you will find it familiar. Willard took his painting to the national Centennial Celebration and the organizers didn’t think much of it. They didn’t want to have it as part of the art exhibit but allowed it to be set up on an easel outside. The painting drew such crowds that they changed their minds and brought it inside and gave it a prominent spot.
