Karma, that’s my belief, my religion mt standards! What is it that you mould your behaviour to? Is it you up bringing? Life experiences? Instilled values? The law? Politics? What makes each of you determine what you are to be right and wrong?

I ask this question because I wonder is it nature, nuture or what that tells me killing another human being is wrong but catching a fish with my dad at xmas is sport and dinner not murder?

Hhhmm I am interested in you intelligent peoples thoughts on the origins of your rights and wrongs and why you have them?

I don’t know why, but every time I see this picture I have from the Superman Celebration this year showing this little baby girl dressed as Super Baby, it makes me feel better. She looks so sweet and innocent and in awe of whatever she is looking at. And I know she is being raised by people who believe in the ideals Superman represents. So it gives me hope for the future. [She may actually be a holy terror, but I'd rather not know.]

With apologies to Alan Silvestri, Alan Anthony and Glen Ballard, here is a slightly modified version of their song “Believe” from the movie “Polar Express”

    ======

    Ideals sleeping? Hopes slowly fading?
Dreams are calling like bells in the distance.
We were dreamers not so long ago
But one by one we all had to grow up.

When it seems the magic slips away
Listen to what Allison has to say.

Believe in what your heart is saying!
    Hear the melody that’s playing.
    There’s no time to waste.
    There’s so much to celebrate.

Believe in what you feel inside
And give your dreams the wings to fly.
    You have everything you need
    If you just believe.

Trains move quickly to their journey’s end.
Destinations are where we begin again.
Ships go sailing far across the sea
Trusting starlight to get where they need to be.

When it seems that we have lost our way
Listen to what Allison has to say.

Believe in what your heart is saying!
    Hear the melody that’s playing.
    There’s no time to waste.
    There’s a Mack Event. Participate!

Believe in what you feel inside
And give your dreams the wings to fly.
    You have everything you need
    If you just believe.

If you just believe, if you just believe,
If you just believe, just believe, just believe ….

Here’s an unaltered song about miracles:

    ======

    “Ordinary Miracle”
    Sarah McLachlan

    It’s not that unusual
    When everything is beautiful
    It’s just another
    Ordinary miracle today

The sky knows when it’s time to snow
Don’t need to teach a seed to grow
    It’s just another
    Ordinary miracle today

Life is like a gift, they say
    Wrapped up for you everyday
Open up, and find a way
To give some of your own

    Isn’t remarkable?
Like every time a raindrop falls
    It’s just another
    Ordinary miracle today

The birds in winter have their fling
And always make it back by spring
    It’s just another
    Ordinary miracle today

    When you wake up everyday
Please don’t throw your dreams away
Hold them close to your heart
‘Cause we are all a part

    Of the ordinary miracle

    Ordinary miracle

Do you want to see a miracle

    It seems so exceptional
That things just turn out after all
    It’s just another
    Ordinary miracle today

The sun comes out and shines some bright
    And disappears again at night
    It’s just another
    Ordinary miracle today

    It’s just another
    Ordinary miracle today

  • http://www.myspace.com/shinefloyd_luigi shinefloyd / luigi

    hehehee!!
about my comment… the comment number 12.
    I am asking me… what is a “relixing” day?lol
maybe something like a “relaxing” day?

  • http://www.myspace.com/fridayphilosopher The Friday Philosopher

    Recipe for a Miracle

    • 1 cup Tension
    • 2 cups Stress
    • 1 teaspoon of Guilt
    • 2 heaping cups of Limited Time
    • 3/4 tablespoon of Urgency
    • A dash of “No Other Choice”
    • 3 heaping cups of Faith

Fold ingredients gently into a bowl. Mix vigorously and add a few tears. You’ll sweat a little as you knead the dough.

Pack it firmly between your hopes and dreams and form into a perfect little ball.

Sprinkle it with a little faith, rolling the ball in the flour until fully covered.
Place it under a veil of belief and allow it to rise.

Put it in an oven that has been pre-set at the perfect temperature for the heat of trials and tribulations.

Allow it to brown under the warmth of God’s love. Remove after due season and allow to cool in the confidence of His promise.

Garnish with your praises. Arrange neatly on a platter of thankfulness and serve to friends, families and, oh yes, strangers . . . invite them too!

Pass on the recipe to all who request it and let them know that with this recipe, they have the makings of a miracle!

    ~~ Author Unknown ~~

I found this on my desk as I was cleaning through the mountain of paperwork. I must have printed it off of the net months ago and forgot about it!

I was just going to post a simple message telling Jennifer how impressed I am that someone has acted on a Mack Event. I’m sure others have done so also, but I personally haven’t been able to think of a way to express my beliefs yet. I thought of putting a sign in my window saying the same as my T-Shirts, but then what they say may offend so I decided against it!

I’m sure something will come to me soon. :)

    Friday

P.S. Don’t worry Luigi, I have no end of trouble with English also! Thank goodness for spellchecker, that’s all I can say!

Awesome job Jennifer. Allison, I’m glad you like your communities’ actions on your mackevents. It’s very rewarding to know that we as fans can do these amazing things an connect them to you! I will definetly start on these projects. They are tons of fun and they give out great messages to our neighbourhoods or friends. This is awesome, much love and support, Brittany XOXOX

    I am in a very hot place, desserts around me. I was just thinking, is it true that;
More ‘fans’ you have cooler you are?

  • http://www.daybow.com David Hayes

“Fan” is short for “Fanatic” and no matter how many fans you have in an attic, it doesn’t get much cooler. In fact, the motors from the fan increase the heat. And even ‘people fans’ put out 600 BTUs per person per hour.

  • arash

then I’ll “Be leav” ing this place and going back to my beautiful canada soon.

[ shoosh david, I made it sound like we are talking about the topic]

    i guess its nice…
but staying here makes me feel like im in a little box…
i know im only 15… but im a little abitious :)

    Practicing Positive Thinking
(self-programming per another poster’s wise advice)

I had a pretty bad headache today from glare in the bubble in my eye, but I needed to work OT to keep the company from bringing in more ‘help.’ But I got a call that tonight was the night that my Mother-In-Law’s house would be unlocked for us to get our stuff out. So I left earlier than expected and drove opposite the direction of home to find that my Mother-in-law had been given fake keys that wouldn’t open her house to keep her happy and to keep me and my wife from getting back into the property. Then I was given a list of honey-do’s to do on the drive home – 3 stores to stop at. One of the stores was a drug store so I got an eye patch to prevent a glare induced headache tomorrow – knowing that anyone who looks into my 4 by 4 cubicle tomorrow will say “ARRRGGH Matey! Where’s your parrot?” (My parrot is dead. That’s another story.) Then I stopped to talk to my Dad and asked to borrow money from my Father because I lost a week’s pay due to the eye thing and the ex-relatives of my wife that she decided to rent to decided not to pay rent this month (their first month – no security deposit either – they USED to be related to her, after all). He didn’t give me any grief and I really didn’t ask him for enough to cover the checks that might clear before I get another invoice paid on Friday. So I got a check from him and asked my wife when she had put some cash she pulled out of the bank because the check set to bounce is to the IRS and I really don’t want to test the bounced check protection I have with the IRS. So I ask her where she put the cash so I could redeposit it but she was on her cell phone and couldn’t answer me … then the land line began to ring and she shouted, “Get it, I’m expecting an important call.” So I ran through the obstacle course that is my family room to get the phone before it went to voice mail because the dogs unplugged the answering machine. I get the phone … and it was nothing … but I stepped in about 4 presents my dogs left for me. I found the money and my wife’s insulin in the lint strainer in the washing machine (why didn’t I look there first), drove to the bank and deposited the money and now there is the possibility that the check that bounces won’t be the one to the IRS (it’s like playing “wheel of mis-fortune”). So I get back home and slide my feet in the yard a bit and come inside. Before I’m very far inside, my wife calls out that she vomited all over her bed (she, unlike me, had had a large supper) and she needs me to find her some sheets. Most of them are locked inside my Mother-in-law’s house 40 miles from here. So I took off my shoes, went to the basement, got in the crawl space under part of the house and found a box with old sheets and took them to her. Then, to top my day off, time to clean the shoes.

This is when I decided that it’s time to try this positive attitude stuff I’ve been reading about.

So, here’s what I’ve come up with:

Even though they are deep tread soles, had I been wearing my dress shoes with the smooth bottoms, I might have slid and fallen in the stuff and maybe added injury to insult … and have a nasty laundry job to do too.

Stepping in 4 pieces at once is far better than one piece on 4 separate occasions (one clean-up versus 4).

I found that I only stepped in the stuff with one shoe … meaning half the labor.

Using the toilet as a wash basin, I thought about an engineer that returned from India yesterday. He told of people in the street fighting over a muddy puddle which they were using to wash themselves and their clothes in. My toilet was probably much cleaner than the water puddle … and no one was fighting with me for the use of it … and I wasn’t bathing in it – just cleaning the bottom of my shoes.

I think that’s about as positive as I can be about it … Oh, one more! Now I don’t really mind that I didn’t eat supper.

  • http://www.daybow.com David Hayes

    Arash,

You’re in Dub-I? Allison for many years resided on the Dub-B … but she’s moved onto the C-Dub.

  • http://www.daybow.com David Hayes

    … and used to drive a V-Dub?

Sorry, I don’t have the mind fro trivia that I once had.

  • http://www.daybow.com David Hayes

Hmmm … left out the part about my wife’s ex-sister-in-law being arrested for taking a baseball bat to a man she lives with despite him liking to beat her up on a regular basis. Guess that makes dealing with one shoe seem a little more minor as well. Another positive! YEAH!!

Well, just another average day at the Hayes household.

  • Robin Hebert

    Friday, I love it!!!!!!
But guilt doesnt always have to be one of the ingredients.
Maybe replace it with expectation, it will taste better! LOL Robin

  • http://www.daybow.com David Hayes

Another positive! Having this gas bubble in my eye does obscure some of my reading vision and reflects ligth in bizarre ways that gives me headaches … but now, based on where the buble is located I can tell if I am standing up straight and walking with good posture WITHOUT having to balance a plate on my head (which has always come too easy for me based upon the flatness factor). After all, looking good is better than seeing good!

  • http://www.daybow.com David Hayes

… Hmmm … that might have been a Helen Keller quote.

  • http://www.daybow.com David Hayes

Actual Helen Keller quotes (I think … can’t always trust the Net in this Wikipedia world):

Although the world is full of suffering, it is also full of the overcoming of it.

Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. The fearful are caught as often as the bold.

Be not dumb, obedient slaves in an army of destruction! Be heroes in an army of construction!

Death is no more than passing from one room into another. But there’s a difference for me, you know. Because in that other room I shall be able to see.

Everything has its wonders, even darkness and silence, and I learn, whatever state I may be in, therein to be content.

Faith is the strength by which a shattered world shall emerge into the light.

I do not want the peace which passeth understanding, I want the understanding which bringeth peace.

I long to accomplish a great and noble task, but it is my chief duty to accomplish small tasks as if they were great and noble.

I seldom think about my limitations, and they never make me sad. Perhaps there is just a touch of yearning at times; but it is vague, like a breeze among flowers.

It is a terrible thing to see and have no vision.

It is for us to pray not for tasks equal to our powers, but for powers equal to our tasks, to go forward with a great desire forever beating at the door of our hearts as we travel toward our distant goal.

It is wonderful how much time good people spend fighting the devil. If they would only expend the same amount of energy loving their fellow men, the devil would die in his own tracks of ennui.

Knowledge is love and light and vision.

Life is an exciting business, and most exciting when it is lived for others.

Many people know so little about what is beyond their short range of experience. They look within themselves – and find nothing! Therefore they conclude that there is nothing outside themselves either.

Many persons have a wrong idea of what constitutes true happiness. It is not attained through self-gratification but through fidelity to a worthy purpose.

My share of the work may be limited, but the fact that it is work makes it precious.

Never bend your head. Always hold it high. Look the world straight in the eye.

One can never consent to creep when one feels an impulse to soar.

Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope and confidence.

Science may have found a cure for most evils; but it has found no remedy for the worst of them all – the apathy of human beings.

Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing.

Smell is a potent wizard that transports you across thousands of miles and all the years you have lived.

Strike against war, for without you no battles can be fought!

The highest result of education is tolerance.

The marvelous richness of human experience would lose something of rewarding joy if there were no limitations to overcome. The hilltop hour would not be half so wonderful if there were no dark valleys to traverse.

The world is moved along, not only by the mighty shoves of its heroes, but also by the aggregate of tiny pushes of each honest worker.

What we have once enjoyed we can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes a part of us.

When one door closes, another opens. But we often look so regretfully upon the closed door that we don’t see the one that has opened for us.

I sometimes wonder if the hand is not more sensitive to the beauties of sculpture than the eye. I should think the wonderful rhythmical flow of lines and curves could be more subtly felt than seen. Be this as it may, I know that I can feel the heart-throbs of the ancient Greeks in their marble gods and goddesses.

Museums and art stores are also sources of pleasure and inspiration. Doubtless it will seem strange to many that the hand unaided by sight can feel action, sentiment, beauty in the cold marble; and yet it is tr Literature is my utopia.

The best educated human being is the one who understands most about the life in which he is placed.

A man can’t make a place for himself in the sun if he keeps taking refuge under the family tree.

There is no better way to thank God for your sight than by giving a helping hand to someone in the dark.

I believe in the immortality of the soul because I have within me immortal longings

There is plenty of courage among us for the abstract but not for the concrete.

I am just as deaf as I am blind. The problems of deafness are deeper and more complex, if not more important than those of blindness. Deafness is a much worse misfortune. For it means the loss of the most vital stimulus — the sound of the voice that brings language, sets thoughts astir, and keeps us in the intellectual company of man.

hi allison. i saw on the season 8 of smallville, you where great. i like the mack events. i agree with it i do believe in miracles. i also didnt get married until i was in my 30′s, i had got married earlier and it didnt end well so i had to wait a while to remarry. he took advantage of me its personal. i also thought that i would never be able to have a baby she is 3 now. i am a lot older than everyone and im just saying that because good things come to those who wait. i like being on this blog because it always brightens my spirits. im looking forward to smallville this week. and also when you get to direct allison.

  • arash

    This is something I have been thinking about for a while. With a few disscustions we had about;
    “Inroversion” vs. “paying attention”
    “selfishness” vs. “selflessness”
And then I heard allison said; “I believe in love”. But how do we decide how much share everybody should have from it. Love ourselves, Love one person or love every one equally.
    Another one of my childhood stories “fiddler on the roof”;
So again me and my brother lying down on the roof one night watching the stars, my brother asked me, which one is yours? I said I don’t know, I don’t have a star. He said well pick one. I looked and picked the brightest, it might have been the northern star, So I said that one. How about you? He pointed at a very dim and small star and said that’s mine. I laughed and said, well my star kicks your’s butt for sure, you can hardly see it why should you pick that one. He said, because I am sure that is only mine.

  • arash

… and one more thing I left out; with love comes dedication, and that is what makes it limited.

  • http://www.myspace.com/fridayphilosopher The Friday Philosopher

    I agree Robin.

Guilt always leaves a bitter taste in my mouth anyway!

  • http://www.daybow.com David Hayes

Here’s something that we may not want to discuss. Great people and the negative impact of their lives? In hearing about the people fighting over mud puddles in India, I was told that the infrastructure that Britain was building in India was left to fall apart under self-rule. Enland might have bankrupted itself by staying in India trying to cope with raising the standard of living for such a huge population. So maybe Ghandi with his marvelous techniques for bringing change peacefully, brought self-rule to India which was poorly handled and ended up saving the British rather than his own people.

“City on the Edge of Forever.” Harlan Ellison written episode of the original “Star Trek” series. By going back in time, Kirk saves the life of a good woman who ould have started a peace movement before WWII that would have slowed the US’s entry into the war and given Hitler more time to develop and use his V2 rockets and discover the atom bomb. Hitler wins.

Tommy Smothers. Emmy Awards, 2008: “It’s hard for me to stay silent, when I keep hearing that peace is only attainable through war. And there is nothing more scary than watching ignorance in action.”

  • Jennifer

Thanks everyone,I’m so glad you all like my pic. I’m bugging my friend to make a sign with one of her beliefs then take a picture of it and send it in.

Allison I have to say that this was one of my favorite MackEvents. <3

  • http://richcarrie.blogspot.com/ Rich

    Hi Allison,

I was sitting here watching Smallville’s first episode for season 8 and remembered months ago hearing you had your own website and thought I’d check it out.
I can’t believe what I’m seeing, a succesful, busy actress, actually taking sometime out of her life to just chat with people online, not trying to promote anything, not even herself. Just some sweet person passing along her thoughts. I want to thank you for reminding me, and everyone else, that weather your famous or not we’re all the same and we
all want the same things in life. Forgetting your a famous actress for just one sec I want to say after reading your blog you are just the sweetest nicest girl. I wish you all the best.

Man I sound like such a sap, sorry.
By the way I’m a comic book artist, if you ever get a second in your busy life come by and check out my art on my blog, http://richcarrie.blogspot.com/
Probably not your thing, but I just thought I’d offer.
    Best
    Rich
