Community

What does it mean to be a part of something? What is community.

I see how I seek to create it everywhere. I am naturally inclined to bring people together and share and express the things I love and the things that interest and excite me.

Every person in a community is valuable, I truly believe this in my core. And yet I know each of us have felt somewhat disposable at some point in our lives. So what’s with that? Why is it so much easier to look at someone else’s value and asses and recognize it and it is so easy to forget our own.

I believe in the power of media and I believe in the power of the Internet. I believe it is a place we can connect with each other.

The little experiment I was conducting with posting everyday and looking to get more peeps involved was really an exploration of this community building process for me.
And I loved it. But now the big ticket question, the question that is the next step for the evolution of my journey… wow… that sounds so epic… WHY?

Build a community… beautiful, fun, cool… Let’s do it. But what if there is more to it than that? What if a community with a potent purpose or goal is possible? A community with an intention. Not a church or religion, not a political party, but an intention to elevate all of humanity… equally, compassionately and wholly?

Cool!

    I wouldn’t agree that the internet is all good. Yes you can connect with people but most of the time over msn or myspace, or at least something along those lines. I wouldn’t say talking over the internet is always a happy story e.g. Megan Meier was one of millions that talking over the internet affected.

    Hey Allison, great video. I am incredibly proud of how you brought us all together into this wonderful community where we can communicate and share our feelings and thoughts with you. I really liked the video. The internet is an amazing thing and it would be quite hard to form communities like this if we didn’t have it. I think expanding this community is incredible and I hope more and more people find this website because it is a truly amazing place and it’s a great opppurtinity to get to know the lovely Allison Mack! I have to say it again but I’m so proud of you! The connection I have with this website and you means a lot to me beacuse I feel like I’m getting to know you better and better each wonderful post! I love how we can build communities and connect with so much wonderful people across the globe. It’s an amazing thing to have and I think everyone needs to be part of a community.     P.S. I watched Smallville again the one where Clark fears his indentity will be revealed and the twist you character does at the end really shocked me. Oh man this season is just full of surprises!

    My favorite part of the video: “I am who I say I am… on the internet.”

    It’s really astounding to think about what the internet has done to people around the world. We can CONNECT to so many people and that’s just it–we are who we SAY we are! There’s so many things that just stop mattering! You know people better by their online avatars than how they really look. You sometimes don’t even know gender let alone race when having a discussion. Man… it’s so awesome.

    Thanks for the reminder about how awesome the internet is. If I could just find a way to make time slow down when I’m using it so I don’t end up wasting so much time with it. :P

    Alison, you remind me of some of the “hippies” (free spirits) I knew as a child. That is a compliment. As a young child in the 60′s and early 70′s, it was all about building a better world with acceptance and original thought. Somehow my generation didn’t understand. We messed it up as adults….locked ourselves in green back cages in yuppieville and tried to ignore our neighbors. I hope your (which is my children’s) generation succeeds where we and our parents failed. To be honest, with voices like yours, and those of my children (more verbal than blogging)… I’m feeling pretty optimistic these days. I only hope I live long enough to see it.

    Here in Brazil, many people do that with other people, you me surprisingly with this attitude and that is why it is also beautiful inside and see something human in you, as sympathy and wish that the world may be better to love a couple more to the other.

    Une communauté ne saurais existé sans le bon vouloir de chacun de ses membres, de même qu’une communauté dont l’un des membres ne cherche pas le bien des autres qui en font partie, est voué à se perdre dans les méandres de l’échec, pouvez-vous me dire ainsi combien de communauté fonctionnent réellement bien ? Et surtout quelles sont celles qui marchent le mieux ? Vous avez mon e-mail, Mlle Mack, répondez moi en anglais s’il ne vous prend pas l’envie de le traduire en français ou demandez moi la traduction si vous ne savez lire ces quelques mots.
