Thankful

I went to my annual Thanks-o-ween-birthday party last night and we spent the early part of our meal speaking about the things we are thankful for. It was a truly amazing experience to be surrounded by the people I adore and experience their graciousness and honor.

My friend brought up privilege and how privileged we are to have such abundance in all things and that struck me as so true. I would simply like to request that we all take a moment out of our days tomorrow to sit and list the things we are thankful for!

    I’m lucky in the respect that I can walk to my gym, which I class as the warm up, by the way Luigi! There is a bar, (Pub for those of us that are British) four doors away from my house, but that is of little use as I don’t drink. There’s a farmers market 30 minutes walk away, the Capital City is 30 minutes drive away; there is a beach there, but I wouldn’t recommend it! I still can’t understand why they call it a beach when the water is green!

    Apart from those few luxuries, Wales consists of nothing more than rolling green hills and the livestock which graze upon them.

    I guess I only have myself to blame. I should have said no to being born in a one horse town.

    Fiday… my friend… you are like me… I don’t drink… and I don’t like to see people drinking without control.
    the beachs here are great… and the sand is white…. we have 200 miles of beautiful beachs, for a small country is not bad.

    Talking about Wales…. you are so lucky living there…. because is a natural country like my country…. and “Green is the color”!!!

    You are all lucky to have somewhere nice to live with good amenities etc. Before I lived in London I lived for years just a couple of miles from the village that is the furthest point from the sea in the whole of the UK, so no beaches. Anyway, most of Britain’s beaches are rocks, not sand.

    London isn’t really a very pretty place and depending on where in London you live it can take forever to get to any of the five airports – three of which are called ‘London’ airports but are over 25 miles from central London. I live out of the centre of London now, which is a bit prettier, and my nearest airport is a small non-commercial one called Biggin Hill, but I think their planes are only really any good for hopping over the English Channel so I won’t be getting to Uruguay on them…

    I always find it interesting different cultures’ approach to drinking. In Britain it is a common way of socialising to go to the pub for a few drinks with your friends. I’ll often meet up with old friends to sit down, relax and catch up over one or two pints of beer on an evening. When I’ve been abroad, though, I’ve noticed that most other European countries don’t have the same sort of socialising culture – it is difficult to find a pub to relax in for a couple of drinks, and most of those are British or Irish pubs. It is more common perhaps to just have a drink over dinner.

    Unfortunately, like Luigi said, it’s not nice to see people drinking without control, and the British attitude to drinking means that a lot of people take it much too far, and a town centre can get pretty rowdy or unpleasant on a Friday or Saturday night.

    I am just so thankful to be ALIVE.
    I almost killed myself 3 times. in, like, the past 13 months. I’m type I Bipolar, which is the really serious one. I’m just glad I didn’t do it.
    There was another time I almost died this year. My potassuim got so low I was put in the hospital. It was bound to happen sometime, I was bulimic since I was 12…
    and I looked like a fucking Galliano model. 5’10 and 109 lbs. (now im 119. im still a size 2, just healthier)
    Glamour is dangerous. Just watch GIA. You can only play with fire for so long before you get burned.
    Anyways, I am glad I didn’t die. And I’m doing much, much better. I’m very thankful for that.
    And I’m glad my best friend in Toronto didn’t kill herself either. We were roommates in high school. I miss her so much.
    Thankful, thankful, thankful.

    Oh, I will be thankful when I go back to art school in new york, where I belong. :)

    Luigi…I wouldn’t mind having the ability to fly, it would save so much time in traffic, but I’m afraid I don’t drink either.

    I’d love to be able to walk to work but, it’s 35 minutes by car. The only things I see if I walk 3 minutes from my house are a dirt road, horses and a hay field. Oh and Taylor Nikole…our major airport is a two hour drive away in Birmingham. So, I know what it’s like to live out in the middle of nowhere. Unfortunately, I love it there so i guess I’m staying. :)

    im thankful for my health, my family and my great friends. im also thankful for because my dad and sister had surgery this month so im glad that it went all well for them. and im totally happy for allisons directing smallville soon.. cant wait :)

    Ross UK…. I agree with you!
    but Unfortunately… the attitude to drink… is the same in all the world… and it’s lamentable to see young girls and boys drinking in the streets.
    Thanks God… here in my country the law “tolerance zero” alcohol… to the drivers… fridays and saturdays is working good.

    but really… if you don’t love the nature… it’s not easy to live there in the middle of nowhere.

    Be advised, I can SUGGEST topics, I can’t OFFICIALLY initiate any.

    I thought I was done with statistics, but there were some pretty obvious errors I made compiling the numbers. I’ve gone back, checked and editted 25 blog entry comment columns so far. The results probably won’t be drastically different, but I don’t want to upset anyone by messing up their totals. Most of the mistakes were numbers entered in the wrong column or miscounts on multiple posts by some people. If someone double posted by accident or because a comment was temporarily held awaiting moderation, I counted it as another post anyway. I didn’t want to make too many judgements with the raw data. And multiple posts are weeded out in a sense by the tally that shows total blog entries commented upon as opposed to a total of all comments by the person … which was also included for comparison sake. The study covered over 7700 comments to Allison’s blog Jan. thru Oct. 2008.

    Silly reason to make a new comment, but on the nosebleed thing in acting.

    It can’t start out down and the actor sucks it in, because if that were done, there would be an obvious mark where it’s about to come down either from before starting the shot or from reversal of the clip (a technique sometimes used to make things look like they’ve instantly been repaired from being broken, something that’s pulled away in actual film look like it’s creeping forward, etc; the tree scene in Evil Dead is a good example of this).

    It’s funny how simple some of the effects are. In one scene, KK got lifted by her throat. While they had a shot of KK and her attacker from the waste up, KK simply walked backwards up a small ramp making it look like she was lifted.

    I do love smallville and try not to miss an episode but smallville has had its own modern jackass moments, one was when they used a “light year” as a measure of time while it is a measure of distance and I just wonder how all the cast and writer, producer and director can miss that. But good luck Alison I am sure you’ll do a great job.

    I will say good luck with the directing, but I’m quite certain that you don’t need luck.

    As I’ve said before, I’ve put money on it being the best episode of Smallville ever! It helps of course, that my fellow gamblers don’t know that much about Smallville and additionally they have picked myself as the judge!

    So from my point of view, you don’t need to worry about it Allison, you can make it as terrable as you like, I’m still winning the bet! :)

    Only joking, I think you’ll do a great job. I just can’t wait to see it!

    Think of a well executed painting of an extremely ugly scene or a perfectly rendered sketch based upon a terrible photo. I agree that direction has a lot to do with how an episode feels and looks … and that the pace set can determine whether a show is dull or exciting, but I tend to think that the story and how well the writers script it will have a lot to do with whether or not it is the best episode ever. Usually the best acting on a show is when it seems that no one is actually acting. Sometimes, the best directing is when no one is aware that their point of view is being manipulated. Allison will probably be judged more (as to whether she gets more episodes to direct) by how efficiently she gets the show shot and ready for post production and how seamlessly the episode fits into the series than by whatever style she may bring to the show. … But that’s just my humble opinion from an outsiders perspective.

    And Arash, I thought a “light year” was a period of time when you fit into a smaller clothing size!
