Thankful

I went to my annual Thanks-o-ween-birthday party last night and we spent the early part of our meal speaking about the things we are thankful for. It was a truly amazing experience to be surrounded by the people I adore and experience their graciousness and honor.

My friend brought up privilege and how privileged we are to have such abundance in all things and that struck me as so true. I would simply like to request that we all take a moment out of our days tomorrow to sit and list the things we are thankful for!

    taylor nikole,

If you live in my country you would be happy for that….

  • Scott

    Allison accidentally missed yesterday’s nablopomo :P .

I’m supposed to have a vote here in the UK but every time elections come round I seem to be mysteriuosly unregistered. I haven’t been able to vote in the last five local elections or the last general election, and not for lack of trying.

    Dearest Allison,

After 9-11, I watched a preacher as he asked this question, “If you could talk to god-face-to-face, what would you say?”
Given my emotional state at the time, I found this to be a rather weighty question. What WOULD I say?
Why did the WTC get knocked down? Why did you allow all those people to die?
Why do you allow bad people to do so much damage?
Forget about the world, why did you take my little brother? Why is there so much heartache in my own life?
But then, it hasn’t been all bad. I remember prom; she was beautiful, and she kissed me so sweetly…
When I got my Honorable Discharge, I was so proud (So were my parents)!
SO…if I could talk to god-face-to-face, all I can think of to say is:
Thank You for the gift of my life and all that is in it.

    Your friend in gratitude,
    Scott123

  • Mr Streilein

It amazes me at the quality of life you have and how you impart it onto other people through the projects you do.

I think you and your friends are an inspiration to many in this world and I hope your example inspires others to take follow your example.

I am thankful for this life and every breath I take each moment.

I’m thankful for forgiveness and blessed assurance given by my Savior.

I’m thankful for my husband, my family and my friends.

I’m thankful for my health, my intelligence, and my strength and weaknesses.

I’m thankful for my job, my car, my home and my kitten Binx.

I’m thankful for freedom and the right to vote.

“Praise God from whom all blessings flow!” It’s such a beautiful thing to make a list like this, read it back to myself, and realize just how blessed I am. Thanks for the reminder, Allison!

I am thankful for so many things. But mainly for:

    A job that I enjoy,
    My microwave,
Email which allows me to talk to people thousands of miles away or just down the street in seconds,
A church that feels like home,
    Friends who are like family,
A family that I love and adore,
A Savior who loved me enough to give His life for mine.

And today, I’m reminded of how thankful I am for those who went before me so I can vote (even if my candidate doesn’t win)

I have so much more that I’m grateful for but those are my top picks.

  • http://www.myspace.com/shinefloyd_luigi shinefloyd / luigi

    maybe this sounds inappropriate….
but this week (like the previous weeks) I am very thankful with the alarm system of my restaurant…. every night I have a call phone of the police department…

Thanks God… only… they’ve broken the glasses…. but more than once.

  • Bia

We should think more about things we are thankful for. Sometimes is easier to complain about a lot of things than being thankful for some of them… Allison, this was a great remind…
I’m thankful for all wonderful and special people in my life, for my job, health and all hard situation I’ve faced in my life because they made me stronger to fight for what I believe.
And even some brazilian people say that Brazil is not a good place to be, I am thankful for living here in this country, in São Paulo.

  • Robin Hebert

You are so right Allison, and having that thankful attitude keeps you in the right state of mind. We overlook so many blessings when we are complaining. We can come before God’s presence with thanksgiving. He appreciates that! LOL

  • Heather W

I am thankful for my nice bed, warm blanket, great friends, amazing dog, good job, and the ability to enjoy my own company without being lonely. The last item may seem strange but when you live in a big city without family close by depression caused by loneliness is an easy trap. So I’m thankful that I like myself.

    Have a great evening,

    Heather

I’m thankful that I’m getting two more US Patents! I got paid for the first one today and I’m getting paid for the other one Thursday. That adds up to $20.00! Wow, if I can get another 2198 patents, I can pay for my eye surgeries without having to use my medical insurance! I’d better put on my thinking cap. … Wonder where I left it.

    Luigi,

Friday and I are sorry about the broken glass, but you did tell us that we could come by anytime to eat at your restaurant.

  • http://www.myspace.com/fridayphilosopher The Friday Philosopher

I did suggest waiting Luigi, but we had both travelled so far and couldn’t possibly go home on an empty stomach!

    Sorry about the glass! :)

  • DEFORT

As far as I know in the USA day of gratitude is celebrated. At us such is not present. But anyway most of all I am grateful to the parents for a life which to me distances, a roof over the head and possibility will be trained that I in turn could provide with it a worthy old age

  • Jasmine

Allison, I would really love to hear your opinion about the US Presidential Election. Did you vote? You are American right, or are you Canadian…hmm I don’t know lol.

  • Scott

I took some time recently to say a prayer where I didn’t ask for anything…

I simply expressed a prayer of gratitude for things that I was grateful for…

    An hour and a half later…I wasn’t finished listing…

But I had additional responsibilities…for which I was ALSO grateful.

  • http://www.daybo.com David Hayes

I hope to visit Uruguay one day to see the wonder of flushing a toilet and watching the water spin a different way than I am used to.

I don’t know why, but I woke up from my post-surgery nap thinking how strange that I haven’t heard a particular Ray Stevens song in years. So I looked iy up and will share it with you now:

    “Everything Is Beautiful”

    Jesus loves the little children,
All the little children of the world.
Red and yellow, black and white,
They are precious in his sight.
Jesus loves the little children of the world.

Everything is beautiful in its own way.
Like the starry summer night, or a snow-covered winter’s day.
And everybody’s beautiful in their own way.
Under God’s heaven, the world’s gonna find the way.

There is none so blind as he who will not see.
We must not close our minds; we must let our thoughts be free.
For every hour that passes by, we know the world gets a little bit older.
It’s time to realize that beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder.

And everything is beautiful in its own way.
Like the starry summer night, or a snow-covered winter’s day.
    Oh, sing it children!
Everybody’s beautiful in their own way.
Under God’s heaven, the world’s gonna find the way.

We shouldn’t care about the length of his hair, or the color of his skin.
Don’t worry about what shows from without, but the love that lives within.
And we’re gonna get it all together now; everything gonna work out fine.
Just take a little time to look on the good side my friend,
And straighten it out in your mind.

And everything is beautiful in its own way.
Like the starry summer night, or a snow-covered winter’s day.
    Ah, sing it children!
Everybody’s beautiful in their own way,
Under God’s heaven the world’s gonna find a way.
    One more time!
Everything is beautiful in its own way.
Like the starry summer night, or a snow-covered winter’s day…

I’m thankful we can see stars. I was looking at them the other day and I thought they would take the stars away from us if they could. And then I started thinking about how the bright stars outshine the dim stars but in reality they are all pretty damn bright. I’m thankful for all the clever analogies and metaphors that stars inspire. I also thought, you know, since the universe is going to end someday anyway, wouldn’t it be cool if all the stars just went supernova all at once. I’m also thankful that I had a wonderful sister for a short time and i guess im actually more sad than thankful but id rather have the short time before she died than never knowing her at all, so its like a mix of sad and thankful. thankful she was here not thankful she left. I’m thankful that im alive now with all these other people and we’re all alive at the same time. we should have a party or something and invite everyone. except that one guy he looks like trouble. im thankful for dvd realeases of entire seasons of shows. No more relying on the tv to tell me when i watch taxi reruns, I CHOOSE WHEN I WATCH TAXI! im thankful for taxi of course. the show not the car. well im thankful for those too since i might have lost a couple of jobs without them. im also, like a bunch of you guys, thankful obama is the president. but you know i actually planned on moving to canada if he lost so its kind of a double edged sword b/c i love canadians. im thankful for canadians. i dont know why more people dont like canadians. im veeery thankful for indoor plumbing and electricity.

  • Puffy

Saw this in article that made me thankful for progress: “…the strongest support for Proposition 8 came from the oldest voters; the most opposition came from 18- to 29-year-olds. Just as it seemed natural to younger generations that a man of mixed race could become president, each year will bring new voters who realize that civil rights belong to all previously rejected minority groups.”

  • Amanda

What’s the specialty at your restaurant? All this talk is making me hungry.
