new, old

hello there!

I had the most divine day in my favorite city in the world, Manhattan! I spent the morning and afternoon strolling the town with several friends, shopping and catching up. Then, I had the great privilege of accompanying a new, but “old”, friend to a documentary film at the Tribeca Film Festival and then to the party afterward.

After we discovered we had completed the coconut milk based ice cream they were handing out at the party, we headed on a long walk uptown, about 54 blocks to home. This was where the new revealed the old, and we felt as though we had known each other for ever. It was so nice. I love the feeling of a good pair of sneakers or better yet a worn cashmere sweater. This is how a new old or an old old friend feels. Just warm and cozy. I am thrilled with the friendships I have earned throughout my life and I feel honored to surround myself with some of the most inspiring, depthy, and intelligent people.

Again, I am blessed.

    Wow, you seem to be getting around a bit – New York, Vancouver, Seattle and back to Manhattan…

    I know what you mean about old friends. I met up last night with a group of old friends from school and although I have seen a few of them from time to time over the years, we haven’t been all together in the same place since leaving school nearly 9 years ago, but we immediately clicked back together as if no time had passed. I think it’s important to make the time to continue old friendships whenever you can, and take the opportunity to make new “old” friends whenever you get the chance.

    It’s even better when you can cross old bridges that you never burned. I admire your zeal for God’s gift of life, and your joy of sharing it.

    I totally get what you mean.
    This week one of my best friends came home after six months in New York. A few days ago we hung out for the entire day in the city, shopped, walked around, had lunch at a nice cafe and dinner that night at a great restaurant and just talked about everything and caught up with each other. I was so much fun. I really love days when you can just get lost in the company of great friends.

    The beauty of your blogging and the sentiments behind so many of your entries has really caught me by surprise. In a world rampant with negativity, you seem someone capable of stopping to see, and embrace, the beautiful. More power to you.

    I must admit, though…Tribeca? You DO get around, good heavens. And those who don’t live in NYC or haven’t visited should know that a 52-block walk is quite a hike. Excellent in spring for getting to know someone, since you’ll be afforded a lot of time to chat!

    I have just recently got back into Smallville after being adrift for a couple years. You see, i watched the first two seasons and while being so caught up in my school work, i ended up abandoning it – only to be reunited with it in the middle of season 8! so here i am, watching seasons 3 through 7 on DVd, trying to see what i missed. i have to say – your work as Chloe is truly inspiring. the way that the character has so much love for others and yet seems to go rather unoticed by her peers is, at times, quite emotional and i found it heartbreaking when Chloe was left abandoned in the hospital by Jimmy. that brought me to tears. anyway, i just wanted to show my appreciation and thanks that you have remained so dedicated to Smallville for so long – your character is so important! Love you loads

    Hey Allison! I’m very happy to hear that you got the had a wonderful tiem with yoru friends. I love it when you can talk to a person for hours and hours and never get bored of it. It’s an amazing experience and really gets you reflective about everything going on in your life. I really enjoyed the episode: “Beast”. I was almost crying near the end. You are so talented! And these epsidoes keep getting depper and more emotional. I can’t wait for the finale. I just really hope you’re character’s not the one to go.

    Friendship is one of the most wonderful actions on this earth. It’s not simply being a friend- you meet someone, you get along, so okay, you’re friends. Friends ‘act’ as friends. You share dreams, sorrows, stories, give advice, go to the movies with, talk to, listen to, laugh with, lean on, fight with (lol) and very importantly- you make back up. Sometimes the close proximity of them feels nice. But even long distance friendships can be just as special. I miss one of besties! :(

    Keep your friendships strong Allie, and the only way you can strengthen a friendship (and of course you know this already) is by being one.

    I have found that the company of an old friend feels the most like coming home than anything else in my life. With an ever transitioning lifestyle, the familiarity and trust, the comfort and relief of being home…that only comes when I am in the presence of a true and dear friend.

    Make me happy that you have spent nice time with the friends!! It is the best thing that it is possible to do … aww I some time ago that I dont go out with my friends … they are very busy, but finally this weekend I could be with my best friend (we are friends since the school) after 2 months without meeting because she was studying for her dificult master ´s exam…. Is really nice spend the day with the friends: laughing, sharing things, shopping.. Simple things that nowadays that make happy the day.

    I just wish I had old friends that made me feel as warm as that, but… I hardly ever get to see them nowadays seeming as they all just working their socks off – something that I too shall be doing three days after my birthday (which is this week – yay!) *sighs* (only work experience but at least I am trying to get a job these days especially in this day and age! =D )

    But I shall be spending, quite literally but wisely, my birthday weekend with two of my best friends down in London.
