Have you ever found yourself in an experience in your life and thought “Holy shit, how did I get here?”

Well, I had this today. It was one of the most amazing days of my life. I was standing in a room filled with friends and mentors and then I was invited to sit across from His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

Amazing life, surprising life, beautiful life.

    Well, I made a few of such experiences and every singel one of them was just great. I’m glad for those. :-)

    I met the Dalai Lama once too. I’m not quite sure how to describe this experience, but it was somehow very spiritual… the whole atmosphere was full of spirituality. It was fantasitc, absolutely fantastic. :-D

    It’s pretty amazing when we experience unexpected joys like that.

    The only time, at least recently, that I’ve asked myself that question was waking up one afternoon after having an all nighter with one of my best friends on the last night before she went away and not having the slightest idea where I was.
    No joke, it took me about thirty seconds to realise I was actually in my own bed; I was just completely out of it.

    Wow.

    The only time I ever had a similar experience was not in meeting a great person though. I was at a convention in Ocean City, MD. It was in January, and one of my lifelong dreams has been (and it still is), to be at an ocean in the winter. After all the business and festivities were over one night, I went out on the beach alone. And I was there. Crisp winter air filling my lungs, ice on the sand at my feet, and the majesty of the sound of the ocean soothing my ears. Awesome.

    I have had moments where I might have reacted that way, if I knew they were people of such sigificance. I tend to cross paths with people and not know who they are, then suddenly someone comes up to me and asks, How do you know so & so?
    I’m usually left with my mouth open, wondering frantically what I said to the person.

    I like it better that way- cause then I know I was Real with them, and they were REAL with me.

    Wonderful! What a great experience. I had that same sort of feeling when we went to sit with Amma and receive her Darshan. (http://www.amma.org/)

    These are people who are such a beautiful example of the potential of the human spirit…an encouragement and inspiration!

    And, whether you realize it or not, Allison, you are an inspiration as well…what a priviledge to have an opportunity such as yours, to inspire and encourage many. I honor you in your journey.

    Well, the Dalai Lama would certainly be a tough act to follow!

    The most surreal experiences I’ve ever had happened when I was on a college trip to Borneo with about a dozen other students and a couple of professors. One day, we were guests of a native Malay group, and had quite an experience. We went swimming in our clothes under a waterfall, and afterward, the women urged me to change clothes to be more comfortable because I was the only one of my group that didn’t bring a set of dry clothes…doh! I reluctanly changed into a sarong and some funky t-shirt with Jesus’ face on it. We all were doing shots of homemade alcohol of some variety, and laughing and dancing. I don’t ever drink or dance. They didn’t speak English, and only our professor spoke Malay. At one point, I needed to use the bathroom, and was amused by the fact that there was a huge cement tank (like at least 6′ by 6′ and 3′ deep) with live fish in it next to the toilet.

    Totally blitzed, I made my way back to the party, sat next to my roommate, and started laughing. She asked what was so funny. My reply: “I’m drunk, wearing a sarong and Jesus t-shirt, dancing with the the natives and just peed next to about a hundred fish in the country of Malaysia…how the hell did that happen?”

    I was also chased by a troop of snarling monkeys on that trip. That was definitely a “Holy Shit…get me the fuck outta here!” situation, but my friends never get tired of hearing me tell the story.

    Every five minutes, I think somebody in our group exclaimed, “Holy shit! We just (fill in the blank) in Malaysia!”

    And every day, something managed to make me tear up because the sights and experiences were so amazing.

    To answer your question, YES, almost every day I ask myself, “Holy shit, how did I get here?” But not in the way you did. I wonder how I could have worked so hard, devoted myself to my work ethic and still have ended up failing so spectacularly and ending up in an environment that is absolutely poisonous to me.

    Wow, it must have been an amazing experience and one of those treasured memories that will last with you forever.

    Whenever one of those rare amazing moments occur in life I normally turn into a bumbling wreck and a few minutes after the event I will suddenly think of something intelligent and funny I ought to have said at the time.

    Meeting wonderful people whom we admire and sharing such an experience with friends make life worth living, thanks for sharing Allison.

    That is so great! I volunteered at the “Seeds of Compassion” talk in Seattle last summer while he was there, and it was so great just being a part of it.

    It must have been amazing getting to be that close to him, and actually able to speak with him as well.

    From what I saw last summer, he is actually quite funny. Did you find this true as well?

    I just wanted to say that the new newsletter is very well done. There are more questions answered in it than were to be found in the blog or forum in months.

    I do think that the mention of me was unfair because at least half my posts were actually the work of Andy Wartfrog so my stats should be half what they are moving me futher down on the most active blog responder list.

    The blog format improvements have also been noted. I especially like the addition of the link “Blog Home.” Another helpful add would be a link to the main site from the forum. Also, the list of previous blogs is nice, but there used to be a link at the bottom to go back even further … all the way to the first blog. Maybe the last link on the list of previous blogs should be to even earlier blogs so that the access isn’t lost. I know it is a work in progress, but I thought I would give my input … and see if my stat numbers go up. … Just like when I used to sit in front of McDonalds as a kid eating as many hamburgers as I could to see if the “number of hamburgers served” posting they used to have would increase. The only number that went up was my cholesterol level.
