to blog or not to blog…

Sometimes I feel repetitive with the things I share on here. I feel like I am so uber obsessed with certain points I want to share that I end up going totally overboard with the amount of times I relate things to “humanity” and “compassion”. I have a very strong picture of what i think a compassionate humanitarian looks like and because i don’t fit that picture, I walk around speaking of it 24/7 as a way to prove I am a “compassionate, humanitarin, artist.”

What would happen if I took all that effort and actually put it into becoming the “compassionate, humanitarian, artist?”

I might stop talking about it and actually do it?

    I think I can relate to what you´re saying.

    For many years I kept journals, where I kept writing every day about the same problems of myself and the world I saw around me. Eventually I got tired of just moaning in my notebooks and started trying to transform my negativity into positive actions. And with that my necessity to moan stopped (or at least decreased :P ).

    But I don´t think you´re moaning in your blogs, you´re just sharing your views and that´s ok. As long as you´re working to be the person you want to be there´s nothing wrong with writing/thinking/sharing what´s important for you.

    I understand and, I often feel the same way on my own journey.

    May I ask you to explain what you think a compassionate humanitarian looks like?

    Don’t be too hard on yourself whatever it is you think you’re lacking to fit the picture you have in mind.
    You are a woman with a caring and giving heart, a strong spirit, living with compassion, love and understanding.
    You are an inspiration for being who you are, that is, a good-natured woman who continues to work to a better self to be able to reach out and make a difference in the world.

    Even though I’m far away from certain goals, making commitments, taking the first (baby) steps,… to be the change I want to see in my life and, maybe even the world…it feels empowering and, really good!. It gives hope, joy and a sense of being.:-)
    It is really hard sometimes but, it is often oh so worth it.

    Actually, by continuing to talk about what you want to become can prime you to start yourself on your way to actually getting there. Lily is right in taking those first small steps of commitment first. Once you start taking those small commitments, you’ll find yourself wanting and able to make larger ones. In fact, one of the commitments you’ve already made to yourself is to keep talking the talk, so don’t stop.

    I feel if you talk about it to others it would help you remind yourself what you feel a compassionate humanitarian is. So it’s a good thing and eventually as you said you would begin to emulate some of he or she’s ideas, concepts. By talking about it you are learning it. I don’t know, umm

    For me, talking about what I want to be is usually a first step to becoming it, or at least moving closer towards becoming it. I’ve also tried to benefit from surrounding myself with people who help me become the person I want to be. On days where I’m not that self motivated they give me encouraging pushes, usually without even knowing it.
    You’ll become who you want to be Allison. No worries.

    I also think you are being too hard on yourself. You are not boring anyone when you talk about compassion or humanitarianism, and I think it’s damn interesting to read your POV and then to get all of your readers POV’s as well.

    Dear Allison, every moment you are becoming. Every moment you choose to be present or not to that reality. You respond mindfully or absently to every aspect of your life. This is true for all of us.

    We all love your blog, but please never feel obligated to blog daily. Be true to your journey.

    I find myself doing the same thing with ideas that are important to me…how I want to see myself evolve. But then, I see when it comes to living up to my ideals, I am very lacking. But the answer is not jumping into another project I’m not ready for. The inner-work has to come first. And I think that means we have to stop striving so hard to be and let who we know we are to develop. We have to relax and stop trying so hard to make this story our ego’s identify with work. Maybe loosening our grasp on the story and learning to I.D. with True Self is the answer. I believe that the greatest creativity and compassion rise from that place. Go within…this is the place where the humility, compassion, creativity emanating into our struggling egos are innate. If we drop the stories, there they are.

    Please don’t think I’ve reached this place of awareness. But this desire, which is really the same as yours, is what drives me, what streams repeatedly through my own conversations and writing. Why, because it’s a passion. Talk about it, write about it. But we must not forget to feel it deeply when we are alone in our quiet moments; but not judging our weakness, rather noticing both our weakness and the potential of that innate goodness. You are a bright soul, dear one. I know it must be an added challenge to have your journey so public. From what we see, you handle it with grace. You are an exceptional young woman with not only the potential to reach your goal, but he heart. Don’t judge yourself too harshly, life is a classroom…keep showing up, being present, and you will grow into that woman. You have a lifetime. :) And you will know when the moments come for you to act. With no concern for result, be, do, grow, soak in this transformative act of being present to life. You will become. (I say to myself as I type to you.)

    I think sometimes its hard to go from talking to actually doing.It’s just easier.For me,i think i probably have a fear of not succeeding.Can we actually live up to what is in our minds.We all say one thing and do another.I dont know,its weird.Its like in our mind we are one person,and then in actuality we are someone totally different.

    If you didn’t talk about it we’d miss hearing your views and opinions!

    I don’t think talking about self-improvement neccessarily negates the doing. Sure, at some point you have to turn your thoughts into actions, but there’s nothing wrong with thinking things through beforehand, especially if (like me) you’re the type of person who forgets to look before she leaps and often ends up wondering “how did I get here?”

    Keep blogging, and keep working on becoming who you want to be! :)

    For me it’s about “truth”, I am constantly in search of it. I think we were all created with a message in us, to reach those in our spear of influence with.

    To me, you are a constant reminder to always be aware of others.

    As someone in search for truth, I tend to get black & white, you bring color to my world & remind me to be compassionate-not judgemental.

    I would say you are a humanitairian (or however you spell it).

    Hello Allison. I think repeating to yourself what your goals are is the first step in making them real and activating them. I find your opinions so interesting, I never get tired of reading your blogs. To me the repetition of something just helps me understand even more your point of view. SO please do continue. I hope you realize this goal of becoming a compassionate, humanitarian, artist. But I can see already those traits in you. It definitely shines through on everything you do.     Hi Allison,

    People are so much more alike than we realize. I have this same issue. I am trying to write a book, a memoir, about a transformative experience in my life. I took classes, met amazing people that want to support me. Started up a blog. Wrote 100 pages and scrapped 80. My story is special and unique and many will want to read it. But when I sit at the computer or notepad and I think that to get 250 excellent pages, I will have to write 1000. It’s like me, a 5.6 climber, climbing the 5.12 El-Capitan. I talk alot about it to my family and friends. And now people ask the dreaded “How’s the book coming?”
    “Oh it’s coming, slow, but sure.” I say. Inside I am ashamed because my three sample chapters should be done by now. The proposal should be at the editor’s. I also think that talking about something puts a little jinx on it. Like the talking creates the aura and that’s I need to feel like a writer.

    Everyone around me says one page at a time.

    You managed to train yourself to run a marathon. And I know that you didn’t just go out one day and do 26miles.

    Thing of how much money you raised for the little boy and his family in Vancouver, by doing the superhero video.

    Your doing good work. I’ll love and appreciate what you do, weather or not you talk about it. The question you must ask is how does it make you feel to talk about it.

    I hope I haven’t overstepped myself. I just get a sense from your entries that you are struggling with something right now.

    That’s what it’s all about shinystarlet, you had the guts to go ahead and make that public commitment. Now that you’ve made that public commitment, you can feel the obligation that prompted you to make that commitment in the first place, and yes, by making it public you took on the responsibility to feel those emotions that show that you’re still committed to your task.

This is your space after your all and if you want to document your journey into becoming the person that you’re aiming to be, that’s cool. If you just want to post something fun and unrelated to anything at all, that’s cool too. As long as you’re having fun and getting something out of it.

    Sincerity manifests itself through action, although actions can certainly be insincere. Perhaps you should question whether you are really sincere or not. One must believe through one’s deeds. Sincerity in the internal always manifests in the external. However, sometimes doing the external, although not totally sincere, can start developing the internal through self-reinforcing mechanisms.

    What is a compassionate humanitarian?
    This is a person who is open to the world and communicate with other people to learn to know them better.
    Your blog allows you to stay in contact and share with people who live in several countries and have different cultures.
    With this blog you agree to receive feedback on what you say. You are someone who knows how to listen the others.
    When we are passionate about something, we talk often and this is normal. Do not worry that if this is repetitive, it allows us to better understand. A subject as humanity is probably the most discussed in the world.
    In all movies, plays, TV series, novels and songs, humanity is still the main ingredient in the recipe.
    Compassion brings sensitivity to humanity.
    It’s wonderful to see an actress become more aware of this aspect to become more credible in his future artistic achievements.

    This is a person who has something to offer society and who has the intelligence to use the talents that gave her life to make our world better. In your case, your talent as an actress, you can reach millions of people.
    Allison make yourself known through your movies and your creativity. Plus you’ll be more famous you have an influence on humanity. Actress Angelina Jolie is the person who has the most infuence according to a recent survey.
    Do not put the cart before the horse, you concentrate on your career and become the future Merryl and Angelina leaving a wonderful legacy of art and humanity.

    its like once you make a public commitment you feel this need to show people that you are keeping to it so, you continually provide “proof” that you are keeping to your word and so you feel like you are always being repetitive but i always end up doing the same thing! so i think its cool that you want to show us how you try to honour your public commitments. after all if you didnt share them with us, you would be less inclined to achieve ‘em

    Your blogs are never repetitive.
    Even if and when you raise discussions on similar or familiar topics you always find new and interesting ways of saying what you want to say.
    Your blogs are always interesting, enlightening, uplifting and inspiring because you have such an amazing personality and outlook on life and I will always check back for what you have to say next.

    In terms of putting your words into actions, I am also struggling with that because it means allowing for change, which can be pretty fucking scary!
    Maybe if we stop allowing the fear to take over, we may actually end up getting what we want or getting closer to becoming the people we want to be.
    Although once again, saying it is one thing but actually doing it is entirely different.

    And Allison, you already have the traits you need to be the woman you want to be. You just need to keep developing them. I guess the same goes for all of us.

    …are you waivering? I know it all seems redundant sometimes, but some people just don’t get it thew their thick heads- sometimes it requires to be restated.

    Plus, sometimes things stay fresh in you to repeat because someone else logged in that didn’t log in before.

    Either way, there is a purpose for everything. Sometimes it’s about consistancy, other wise you may seem like a real flake if you constantly jumped around from topic to topic.

    You are building people up. You are constantly challenging us to not get so caught up in ourselves. To be mindful of our behavior, to be present with everyone, to consider others more than ourselves.

    As for your struggles with these issues, sometimes you gotta experience/ embody the message, before you can communicate it.

    Believe it or not, God is using you & from a minister’s position, you would laugh, but your are “ministering” to people.

    In my view “compassionate” and “humanitarian” (or do you mean simply human ?) are not well accorded to “artist”. I mean it is a different level, and perhaps it’s better to dissociate them. A great documentary film maker, Viktor Kossakovski, made a strong point on this.
    For example he filmed his son at age 4 in front of a mirror and all his reactions facing his reflection – at a key transitional age in this relation to his own image- passing from amusement to rage and tears. Not very charitable… But the film is a masterpiece, a parabol on humanity. Same thing when he filmed his old ex professor dying and having lost his mind… Well these examples are strong, but at some point he had to ask himself “what can I do ?”. And since he is a filmmaker he filmed. And that’s also his faith into his art. Same goes with engagement I think. You can have your opinions etc on a personal level, but as an artist you’re not at all obligated to refer to it, or immediately compose a song as soon as something bad happens in the world… As an individual of course, better if you’re a compasionate and “human” person ! Though I’m not sure to really relate to those adjectives… Are we sure we know what we speaking about when we speak about having “heart”, being human, etc ? Seems a little vague to me, although I understand of course what general meaning it could have… which I think strongly relates to a Christian history and so…sacrifice and guilt… Anyway I understand what you mean when you say you want to act, more than speak… Because so-called “good” actions are always extremely specific, and also sometimes “the road to hell is paved with good intentions” ! Of course you seem a kind and caring person and I absolutely don’t doubt your true generosity, I’m just throwing some thoughts here, I hope it will not be misinterpreted !

    This is a start, it may be impossible to be 100% a compassionate humanitarian, or to be anything 100%. But at least what it is you strongly believe and want to become is noble and not superficial. I know plenty of people who’d rather be beautiful, wealthy, and have a glamorous life. So it is nice to hear that someone is an aspiring humanist or humanitarian. Like you I always feel like I spend too much time thinking and not enough time doing, but as a graduated student of philosophy I can almost be sure that working out a plan of action will sustain your goal much longer than just jumping into something.

    Hi Allison!

    I see nothing wrong with talking (blogging in this case) about what your thoughts or ideas are. Many good things started out that way. Whatever your vision of compassionate humanitarian is, blogging abour your thoughts/ideas does not prevent you from being one. I think you’re not alone in thinking or feeling as though you need to speak out more to “prove” your compassion. Perhaps just speaking about it alone already shows compassion (since you’re showing you care about the matter). Sometimes, we touch others’ lives without us knowing or not even trying. Compassion and humanitarian comes in many shapes and forms and you need not to feel bad about constantly trying to redefine it. It’s dynamic and as long as you’re engaged into it, you’re doing something as oppose to nothing. And something (in this case), is always better than nothing.
