Rob Gray, the great and lovely!

One of my dear and wonderful friends and mentors, Robert W. Gray, has just published his first book of short stories. Needless to say, he is amazing and the work he has done is absolutely stunning! It is moving and honest and beautiful and I think you should all read it!

    Allison, its been awhile since you’ve been on. You must be a really busy lady, I watched your video last night with robert, and your as stunning as ever. I could write forever, but ill keep it as short as I can, ill go check and see if my chapters has that book from robert.
    Well I hope everything is good for you, and one day I do hope to meet you. I’m trying to find your movies you made but I can’t find them (You, Frog) are you able to tell me where I can get them.

    It can be so intimate, I never thought of describing it like that, but yes, that is exactly how it feels. And it is so special when you can connect with a particular writing piece, it can be a truly amazing experience.

    Can I just take this time to say how great it is to hear from you again? I caught on to this site just after Christmas and there hasn’t been a new entry since then until now. Thankyou for this site, this community, your words, their words, my opportunities to share my own words, it’s incredible. It’s so inspiring and this place uplifts my spirits so much.

    Again, thankyou. And also, in a few days we here in Australia will finally be able to purchase Smallville season 8! I’ll pick up me preordered copy on the 31st, aching to see you shine.

    Hey Allison!

    Great to see a post! I found the interview to be very inspiring and relatable because when I write, I try not to put “filters” in my writing as well. I feel that once I let down my guards, the characters start speaking for themselves and that’s when I know that I am doing something right. Rob mentioned how our fictional worlds become our worlds, and that is so true. I like the freedom of creating my own world when I’m writing, as well as immersing myself into someone else’s world when I’m reading, as Jade Ruby mentioned so beautifully as her reading experience.

    It’s so amazing to see someone wanting to connect with various types of people through writing, and Rob expresses that so clearly in this wonderful chat.

    Robert has a unique voice, not just to his writing, but to all his characters, you get a sense of where they’re coming from without having to delve into long back stories. Thanks for sharing this at-home interview, Kudos to your mom! ;)

    It is with great pleasure that I read your message.
    Your interview is very touching and resembles a discussion between two friends.
    Telling stories is a gift from Rob and he uses it for our pleasure.
    Thank you for allowing us to discover his talent.
    I liked the idea of writing without filter. Beliefs are part of the filters. Beliefs prevent us from saying what we really think and this can affect the creativity of the author.
    I like the complicity between you, your mom and your freind.
    During the Olympic Games in Vancouver watching the competitions, I was constantly in telling me that every athlete has an incredible story to tell.
    These are people who have talent and have accepted to practice and make sacrifices for years to become the best in their disciplines.
    Then the big moment arrives, a fraction of a second too long or a wrong move and it is victory or defeat.
    How inspiring stories to tell to show to the ordinary people that we must not abandon, he must believe in their dreams. It was just the games slogan “I Believe”. But there were great joys and great disappointments. There have been examples of incredible courage as this Canadian artistic skater whose mother died in Vancouver two days before the big competition. She was very close to her mother, she was her guide, her mentor, her inspiration and her mother. She did not give up and she won the bronze medal.
    The Olympics is synonymous with courage and perseverance.
    The world needs to be telling inspirational stories.
    Your interpretation of Chloe is always fascinating and the fact that the character change enables us to appreciate your immense talent. We are sometimes a little worried about some of her decisions but I am on that final Chloe fall on her feet and grew out of all his misadventures. Fot the third year in a row, we don’y know if Chloe will be back. She is a great part of Smallville and it’s difficult to imagine Smallville without Chloe.

    It’s GREAT to hear form you again! I have see this interview before, and I agree with you that as an actor, words are SO IMPORTANT! Language tells us so very much, how a person thinks, feels, believes what they believes, and how deeply they believe. Rob is a really talented writer, and it is wonderful to hear you both speak about creativity!

    oh how i miss hearing your creative thoughts… reminds me of… me (only on occasion lately :/ ).
    I’ve been awfully drained of creative ideas since I’ve had to draw and paint constantly for Ap art…. gotta build a portfolio that will get me into school though… still trying to have fun with it…
    you know how much I love creativity and art :)

Am a huge fan of Smallville, I started watching Smallville only a month back and am already on the 7th season and will catch up with the current one probably within a week or 2.     Maybe I should pick up a copy, cause I don’t think I’m going to pick up Ellison’s 1000 page collection of short fiction any time soon. Although I must admit I still want to get my hand’s on Ellison’s award winning Star Trek TOS teleplay, “City on the Edge of Forever” which is arguably the best TOS episode ever. But what I always liked was Ellison’s acerbic wit in his commentary, and this one is supposed to be with all stops let out!

    What a lovely video! The creative process is so interesting and uniquely individual. I find it fascinating how a seemingly random thought or personal experience inspires someone to create. Speaking as someone with little or no creativity, totally left brain dominant, I am amazed by anyone who can create in any form. Not only that, but how they can use that creativity to connect with others. Loved this!

    I’d just like to echo the thoughts of all above on thanking you for sharing this discussion with your friend Rob Gray. I thought it was so interesting on hearing both your comments on the writing process, of how certain emotions, topics are easier to convey and express.

    I also thought the subject of having “real” experiences through art was fascinating- after all if we see or hear something and have an emotional reaction, is that any less real than an event that we have in our everyday lives? Art does allow each of us to share emotions to events we may never of have yet to have in our own lives.

    I’m off to order the book Crisp – looking forward to reading Rob’s work!

    I LOVE this interview! People have really criticized and mocked me because of the way I see writing and reading. They say it’s a waste of time, so seeing this interview between two people who are in love with writing just as I am was a complete relief.

    I consider myself really a kind of beginner writer, cause really all I’ve written is fan fiction but thanks to that I found out I LOVE to write, since then I long to be able to write a REAL novel.

    Thanks so much for sharing this! I needed a bit of an “artistic pick-me-up” if you get what I mean.

    Holy Crap! I can’t believe I was looking around the site and found this video. Rob taught me two summer courses while I was at university. I saw the name Rob Gray and didn’t think that it was possible that it could be the same guy; I was wrong. Rob was, hands-down, the greatest professor that I ever had. I will, 100%, purchase this book because I support anything that he is involved with. Unbelievable that two people who I dig what they do, sat down and had a chat about such a fascinating subject. I’ve met one, now I just need to meet the other. haha
    N.B. – I proved him wrong about the depth of meaning in a short story during one of those courses and will forever hold that as the highlight of my university experience. He was prepared to flunk my presentation before I scored over 90% on it!
