The ideal me

Hey! So 2 things.

1. I am shutting down my forum for now due to some not so lovely things being posted more than once. I don’t really want to provide a space for stuff like that be put out, and so I won’t.

2. There was a bomb threat in Times Square. A bomb threat in Time Square.

Let me re-iterate that again. There was a bloody bomb threat in Time Square this afternoon!

The morning was gorgeous. The universe was open and shining beams of vitamin D all over the bare shoulders of the New York blood-cells pulsating through the arteries of a city that thrums on humanities heart-beat.

I walked to work. It was too beautiful not to. My friend insisted on trying on my sun glasses to shield the rays from her retina and I stopped at Whole Foods to gather my daily dose of Kombucha for my new best bud, Mary Mitchell. Everything was extraordinary. I didn’t have a care in the world.

As I was gathering a few things to head out to an audition over lunch, there was a casual announcement made about a “bomb scare in Times Square again.” Apparently this hasn’t been the first in the past few weeks. Everyone groaned and it seemed less than dramatic. I realized this kind of threat is quickly becoming something we are used to. It is quickly becoming something we simply accept. Just like when the a train breaks down.

What!?!?!?

How can we accept this? How can we be okay with the fact that people are planting bombs in the most public of places so as to kill as many innocent by standers as possible just so they can get their voices heard– so they can make a point. When did we get to the place where we stuffed so much cotton in our ears that we can’t even register a plea for help, or decency, or common human respect?

And as I sat there, proselytizing to several of the dancers in the show, I realized I was talking to myself.

It is so important that we all look to pull the cotton out of our ears and listen to each other. Find your enemy and make them human.

Hear what they are saying.
Reach out for peace, don’t expect it to fall on you.
Because it won’t.
Peace, love, compassion. All things earned.
It seems so simple. But, like the Indigo Girls say “the hardest to learn is the least complicated”.

This is not a lecture.

It is not meant to be high and mighty, so I apologize for the soap box. I simply found myself in an incredibly responsible and oblivious place as I was complaining this afternoon.

I want to look at the world and make my choices based on ideals. The ideal world. The ideal me.
A world where no one blames.
No one is suppressed.
No one steals.
And violence is a thing of the past.
I sigh.
Begin now.
Peace out homies.

Congratulations on your first night performing in “Love Loss, And What I Wore”, Allison!

Your NYC debut, from what I gather from the director’s tweets? A fantastic personal milestone for you if so!

Thank you for your continued enthusiasm for live theatre. (And belated birthday greetings too.)

    Hi, AM

Do you accept postal mail at all?(Like fan mail at a PO BOX or something?)

Tragic about the bomb threat and the “not so nice” forum posts… a few people sometimes tragically ruin it for many…

    Enjoy the Day
    Take Care, NK

Well that pretty much sums up how things ended up on the old forum (with spammed ads for meds and far, far worse).

Thankfully Tabby, David and Josh are running a ‘tighter ship’ over on the new forum, and it has been wonderfully spam-free so far.

    Hey Allie,

For you and all of my friends here, I thought I would let you know I have ventured into production as well as acting! I would be honored of you all would take a look!

Visit us on Youtube under “Lives, by JJ McMoon” it is a web series based on JJ’s book. It is just a small venture for now, but I thought I would let you know. You have become such an inspiration to me!
I have also been picked up by a local agent, and am continuing my acting. I am so very glad I found your site, and listened to your advice!

    Always Your Friend!

    Hi Allison!
Why is it that as we age, time feels compressed? I think, the increasing number of experiences shortens the time.

    Have a good TeaTime!

I hope you can do a talk show while you’re in NYC. As the crown Princess of Smallville, and the last season coming up, plus “Love, Loss, and What I Wore,” it would certainly be nice.

  • ro

    Hey there,

Did you have moderators on your site? Just wondering as it would’ve solved any problems with things you didn’t like being posted on there if not. Hope you get it sorted anyway and that you don’t let one or two idiots ruin you having a forum.

And thanks for being so great as Chloe! Looking forward to season 10.

Why is it that spending time w/ my family brings out the vulnerable 5 year old in me?

Family, in my experience, tends to try what always worked best on you from when they first had known you had buttons to push.

    Allison Mack

“I am contemplating how many decisions I make based on love vs fear. Interesting evaluation.”

Interesting indeed, but must there only be a dichotomy? I am trying to deal with this myself, that is trying not to exclude the middle in my evaluation of things, which is so habitual with me and leads to problems. Then too, what happens when even though the labels seem to be opposites, the members of the set you’re trying to evaluate are stubbornly a part of both sets. Yikes! It behooves a person to learn to read one’s own subtle internal voices. I’m not saying their always right, but they can give a clue to what’s really going on, as they allow your brain to analyze the situation more freely.

Hello good evening! I am entering this blog first. I enjoyed knowing that there is an official site of Allison Mack. I’m somewhat lost, since I have difficulties with English and still do not know the philosophy embedded in the page. But I’m sure it soon picked up the pace of the dance. A big hug to all Brazilian surfers who like me are fans of Allison. A hug and a kiss to her.

I would like to make a suggestion: As I said in previous message, I do not know how the site since I’m going first. But here in Brazil there is a journalist who created a blog to interact with viewers. She uses this page to chat with Internet users. She also writes on page comments, as do visitors to the page. I would suggest that Allison did the same. So we would leave Internet messages on the comment page and on the same page she could answer the messages. It would be very bequeath be able to interact with it.

    Sincerely, Cássio Lima, Brasil

  • Aysha

Wow, that’s great! I wonder if Allie will post soon? I enjoy twitters nonetheless. They’re very fun!

Aysha August 16th, 2010: I enjoy twitters nonetheless. They’re very fun!

Twitters are like a tasty snack (a banana perhaps?), but a blog entry is like a wholesome meal that you can savour.

  • Aysha

    Great analogy and totally true.

Hello Allison, I receive a message from you on my e-mail.

    Do I have that privilege?

I work at a radio in my town. I am the operator of audio (I do not know how you call this kind of work in the USA). But I want to be speaker. For this, I intend to do an English course. Surely after that I will not need a computer to translate my messages. Tell the way, I write correctly in Portuguese, but it does not translate correctly into English. Some phrases are meaningless. Want to learn to read, write and speak English.

So, I’m a fan of his work. I think your hair as much! You are very beautiful!

A warm hug directly from Brazil.

Yeah, but who’s doing the cooking?

  • Aysha

LOL. I’m sure we can all create a culinary team of our own and whip up something in no time. Who’s bringing the bananas?

  • 1 Jade Ruby

Well. . . We still can use plantains to make a wholesome meal, but I wouldn’t mind bringing the bananas.

  • Aysha

Sure! I’ll bring the pots, pans, and cutlery….lol.

  • 1 Jade Ruby

Alright, who’s wants to be the creative force and do the recipes?

  • 1 Jade Ruby

I think someone needs to point out plantain meals as they look like noone recognizes their use for “potatoes” yet.

  • http://www.hull.ac.uk/mri/ 3tesla

Perhaps Allison can give us a blog entry about food next time? :-)

  • Aysha

Mmmm. That would be full of awesomeness.

  • Aysha

This is totally random, and a shift in tone from the playful banter, but I feel I have to say this.

Allison has been an inspiration to me in many ways. The most profound way is the way that she approaches life, from what I have gathered from blogs, interviews, etc. I may not know her personally, (I really wish I did!) but her hunger to learn and grow as a person through every step of her life has acted as a motivation for me to endeavor and branch out in every way that I can to make my life fulfilling. That is, I try to keep my life enriching by following through with my interests and continuing to learn and wanting to learn more no matter what.

So, thank you Allison, for helping me gain a different perspective and a better lens through which I see life now. I couldn’t thank you enough if I tried. You continue to be an inspiration for me as well as many fans, I am sure. I am definite that many will second my comment!

I wish I could be more eloquent in my thanks, for this will do for now.

    Lovingly,
    Aysha

  • Beth

    I definitely second that:D
Really couldn’t have said it better Aysha.

  • Aysha

    Aww, thanks Beth!

  • http://www.hull.ac.uk/mri/ 3tesla

    Aysha; September 17th, 2010:

I wish I could be more eloquent in my thanks, for this will do for now.

You were plenty eleoquent enough, Aysha!

(And I couldn’t agree with you more, although I would add ‘a commitment to exploring self and community through art’ to the list of Allison’s inspirational qualities.)

  • Aysha

Thanks, Tesla and I wholeheartedly agree with Allison’s “commitment to exploring self and community through art.” Very well said and true!

Which leads me to some questions I ask of all fans: What do you find inspiring in Allison? Moreover, what are some traits of people that inspire you to be a better version of yourself?

  • Solti

    Uh, yeah, congrats Allison!
You really do awesome work with Chloe’s character! Can’t wait to see you again. And Aysha, what could be more inspiring than honesty?
    Bet wishes!

  • Solti

Ah sorry: Best wishes :-) !

  • Aysha

Solti, honesty is truly a priceless trait to have, I agree. What I find inspiring in any person above all else is innate selflessness. It’s awe-inspiring to see someone who always thinks of others and goes the extra mile to help people, without expecting any rewards in return. Moreover, it comes natural to him/her. He/she doesn’t have to think twice about lending a hand. Touches my heart to see that.

  • http://www.hull.ac.uk/mri/ 3tesla

I think that it was the MackEvents that hooked me into this site (blog, forum, etc.). Sharing artistic inspiration is very infectious, I find, and I like to do it myself occasionally too (for example in church home groups).

As for desirable personality traits, I reckon that if someone has integrity (the humility to apologise if needs be, for example) then all else will follow.

  • Aysha

I bumped across this site randomly, and have been hooked since. It is the very in-depth nature of her blogs that reeled me in.

Humility is a very redeeming quality and we definitely need more of it in the world!

Great thoughts, Solti and Tesla. Keep the answers coming, guys!

  • http://www.hull.ac.uk/mri/ 3tesla

Came in today via the front page and was reminded of how inspiring I found the Eleanor Roosevelt quote, and how impressed I was with the witty flower-as-a-sunset photo montage. They made a great first impression on me and made me want to take plenty of time in exploring the site. (And sharing ideas with great folks on the forum and blog was what got me hooked.)

  • Aysha

Tesla: “And sharing ideas with great folks on the forum and blog was what got me hooked.”

Yes, that too! I am not able to have thought-provoking discussions anywhere else, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

  • 1 Jade Ruby

Who’s up for a great Halloween?

  • Beth

Aysha, to answer your question, there’s nothing about Allison that I don’t find completely inspiring. I love reading her incredibly well written and highly creative thoughts and I also enjoy reading and responding to everyone else’s.

  • http://www.hull.ac.uk/mri/ 3tesla

    1 Jade Ruby
    > Who’s up for a great Halloween?

I once knew a young Protestant Christian woman who did not join in Halloween festivities on account of it ‘glorifying the devil’, but she used to hold firework parties on Bonfire Night (5 November) – held to commemorate the foiling of the Gunpowder Plot of 1605 – presumably because it’s OK to celebrate burning Catholics (one of the plot’s ringleaders was called Guy Fawkes and it is traditional to burn an effigy of him on a bonfire).

  • Aysha

Beth: “Aysha, to answer your question, there’s nothing about Allison that I don’t find completely inspiring. I love reading her incredibly well written and highly creative thoughts and I also enjoy reading and responding to everyone else’s. “

  • Aysha

Sorry, hit the “submit” button too soon! lol. Ditto, Beth. Creativity breeds creativity in everyone, and it’s contagious.

Tesla, interesting factoid – how hypocritical of that woman. It’s so easy to point the finger at someone else but one it comes to oneself, we all tend to turn a blind eye.

  • http://www.hull.ac.uk/mri/ 3tesla

There is a small part of me which now desperately wants to compare and contrast the definitions of ‘contagious’ and ‘infectious’. Oh the joys of being a physicist …
