_70696431_70696430These women have guts. I feel a kinship to them.

How do I let them know I’m on their side? It isn’t just about riding the storm alone. It is being a bird with clipped wings. Living inside a cage, waiting for permission to speak, breath, laugh. Basic violations of essential human rights.

How is this ok? How does this exist? How do we end it?

I love the fact that these women are standing for their basic human rights but it’s a bloody shame that they even have to, that it’s come to this. I think by sharing and making people aware of this definitely is a step in the right direction, I just wish there was more we can do.

Of course it’s not okay. It’s so far beyond ‘not okay.’ Unfortunately, in many parts of the world, particularly the Middle East, men prefer to have women remain in the 3rd century. Experts believe it’s because those same men actually fear women and the influence they could have if given the basic human rights that we take for granted. God bless these women for taking a stand so that maybe one day their daughters will be able to do with their lives as they wish.

Here is an article about an incredibly brave American woman trying to get truth out about the Middle East. It is also incredibly scary to learn that news agencies do this. You are my hero Amber Lyon

It’s a good question…maybe it starts by showing support to the brave women (and men supporting them) by making that stand… if you have about 15 minutes I recommend watching Manal al Sharif tell her story of trying to drive in Saudi Arabia at this TED talk http://www.ted.com/talks/manal_al_sharif_a_saudi_woman_who_dared_to_drive.html

    Excellent questions.
    I second Sam’s comment.
