Today I am thankful.

I am thankful for warm showers after long cold walks.
I am thankful for oversized cashmere sweaters.
I am thankful for green smoothies.
I am thankful for squash, frozen bananas and carob.
I am thankful for words like spelunking and contemplative.
I am thankful for peppery chai tea.
I am thankful for the way the light used to cut through my lace curtains and paint
My bed,
My face,
My morning
With perfectly placed shapes and shadows.
I am thankful for my teddy bear.
I am thankful for my housemates.
I am thankful for Best Friend Jenny.
Yes, that is her full name…
Best Friend Jenny.
Never to be replaced.
I am thankful for the phrase “Growing pains.”
Silver lining translation for “The shit that hurts.”
I am thankful for sudden, awkward moments of self-awareness.
“Wow, I just said that.”
I am thankful for the three loves in my life.
The rock star, the painter, the humanitarian.
I am thankful for thighs I used to loath.
They have schlepped me up a mountain in China to rest underneath the victory tree.
They have propelled me across the dance floor in time with Michael’s backbeat.
They have been too tight for these jeans and too loose for those.
They have kept me humble and happy and now…
Thankful.
I am thankful for my teachers. The giants who put me on their shoulders with wisdom, humility and grace.
Subtle whispers of experience and care.
Holding the compass of ultimate dreams and ideals in front of me when make a wrong turn.
I am thankful for my family.
Mom’s fingerprints in every corner of my home.
Dad’s voice in every note in my ear.
Shannon’s opinion in each song I sing.
Robyn’s sweet, subtle, understated voice in every word I read.
I am thankful for giant scarves that make the cold air so obvious in contrast.
I am thankful for dinner parties.
I am thankful for girl friends. The best girlfriends.
I am thankful for my Wild Women’s Adventurers.
I am thankful for love letters.
I am thankful for sunrises.
I am thankful for my cowboy boots.
I am thankful for 31 years as me.
I am thankful.
Thankful.
Thanks.

And be thankfull for being a Storyteller, someone who is able to capture and distill into words all the precious moments and emotions of that life less ordinary. A rare gift to be cherished and shared.
