This is Aung San Suu Kyi. She has moved to the top of my hero list. A nobel laureate and an honorary member of The Elders.

She is absolutely incredible. I am blown away by here strength, grace, and integrity. Watch this video and share in the celebration of this woman’s existence.

It is commendable and inspirational that she is using her newly-granted freedom to try and get elected into the Burmese government* This makes me think that even if our ‘candles’, of hope and tolerance, are small with tiny ‘flames’, then we have a duty to try and light as many other ‘candles’ as we can (via inspiration, education, etc.) so that the ‘darkness’ iin the world is pushed back.

    Yes, she deserves respect.
    > She remained under house arrest in Burma for almost 15 of the 21 years from 20 July 1989 until her most recent release on 13
    > November 2010.
    > She was offered freedom if she left the country, but she refused.
Her life is not very easy, apparently. But she isn’t surrender.

    > She also believes fear spurs many world leaders to lose sight of their purpose. “Government leaders are amazing”, she once said.
    > “So often it seems they are the last to know what the people want.”
    Good words.

P.S. But link to video is broken, unfortunately
