Christnot asked:
If the world was reaching an apocalypse, only 3 minutes left, low battery on your cell, in a result you only have enough power to call one person, who would it be?

Allison said:
My mom-she did carry me for 9 months after all

Volley! Allison asks everyone:

  1. End of the world and you could only listen to one song, read one paragraph, stanza, or chapter from a piece of literature, watch one scene from a movie, and eat one more dish? What would they be?
  2. What social icon had the greatest impact on you and why?
  3. Do you like the way women are currently portrayed in the media? Why? Or why not? If no, how would you like to see it evolve?

    3. I think the women are portrayed in many ways, which one corresponds to a kind of person. Yes, there are many women who submit themselves to man, who think themselves as low creatures or whatever, but there are also those who are very independent, who make their way into the world and leave a real mark.

The many portraits of women we see and hear everyday should not dictate our view of ourselves in any way. We must be what we want to be, not only what’s expected of us. We are the ones who must have the highest expectations, not the others.

Dear Allison, you said that if you could release yourself from one inhibition, that would be caring what others think of you. Okay, somehow, being a public person, this is /almost/ impossible, BUT… You can’t rule your life or your actions by what the others may or may not think. Don’t they say that not even Jesus pleased everybody? That’s very much true in many aspects of the human life. And I like to believe that sometimes… sometimes… that phrase from Velvet Goldmine is pretty much true: “Times, places, people. They’re all speeding up. So to cope with this evolutionary paranoia strange people are chosen who through their art can move progress more quickly.”

See? I emphasize “through their art can move progress more quickly”. Some people, the ones who are in this public position, MUST assume some leadership – be rebel, defy the conventions and so on, in order to open the eyes of many people (exactly the ones who admire them), people which wouldn’t even consider minimum changes otherwise.

Oh, mein gott, I’m so sorry, I came here only to answer your question and look where I got: I’m really babbling…

So sorry, I’m going now. Have a nice week!

    1) Song – One Moment More by Mindy Smith
    Literature – The
Movie Scene- Smallville ( I know it’s not a movie), when Clark and Chloe dance together at the Spring Formal, end of season 1.
Dish – Greek Salad & Pizza.

    2) You Miss Mack. From the moment I first saw you in Smallville as Chloe. I loved your character so much, and after discovering this blog, I admire you even more! I can’t leave these guys out: Zac Efron, Ashley Tisdale, Vanessa Hudgens, Corbin Bleu, etc. I’m a huge HSM fan :) . Aswell as JB (Jonas Brothers). Hehe.

    3) I absolutely hate how women are portrayed as objects. “Things” that belong to men, whom they can control. It’s disgusting. And how this is how you have to look to be pretty, or noticed. Reality check, nobody’s perfect! Everyone is beautiful however they are.

    This is awesome!!!!!
    Take care!

*Literature – The first chapter of Tuck Everlasting. I really enjoyed that book. And I can’t think of anything else :P .

is there any chance that you will ever appear in the sequel to the dark knight perhaps as chloe? or for that matter work with christian bale?

    1. I would probably listen to a Michael Jackson song, read a passage from Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte, watch Anne and Gilbert get together one more time at the end of Anne of Avonlea, and I would eat food from my favorite Thai restaurant. The dish would be Sweet and Sour Chicken with Mango sticky rice for dessert.

    2. What social icon had the greatest impact on you and why?

I don’t really know! Jesus, Shirley Temple Black, different writers and artists, musicians, humanitarians, everyday people who make a difference, etc…have all inspired me in many ways, and all in different ways.

    3. Do you like the way women are currently portrayed in the media? Why? Or why not? If no, how would you like to see it evolve?

Tricky question. And the simple answer is no, even though that’s not always the case. I don’t like the way women are portrayed in media all the time because they can be exploited and portrayed as objects. Also, the media puts out a certain image to young girls of how they should look and behave, even though it is not realistic. The media helps to perpetuate bad body image. I would like in the future for women to be portrayed less as stereotypes and more as strong women! Different types of women. All shapes, sizes, religions, backgrounds, etc…Sometimes I do think we’re headed in the right direction, then other times I feel like we take a step backwards. Part of the problem is that women sometimes allow themselves to be seen as objects rather than as a person. I think Transformers 2 is a very good example of how the Media portrays women negatively. I do think it can be changed though.

my one song would be peace in the valley by elvis.my one chapter would be the final chapter of to kill a mockingbird.my one scene from a movie would be jim civesal hanging on the cross in passion of the christ,it always reminds me to not waste the life that he sacrificed to give me mine.and my one dish would have to be my mom’s famous rice dish.can;t tell you what’s in it family secret. My social icon would have to be the men and women that keep us safe everyday but never get noticed for it nor want to. Finally i believe the media is the major trigger of girls with eating disorders and body issues. If you don’t look like the magazines then there is something wrong with you.I hope one day to see women noticed for their talents and achievements and not for how they look.

    1. End of the world and you could only listen to one song, read one paragraph, stanza, or chapter from a piece of literature, watch one scene from a movie, and eat one more dish? What would they be?

Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd. The last paragraph of Pride and Prejudice. The final scene from Return of the Jedi. Lasagne.

    2. What social icon had the greatest impact on you and why?

I don’t know really. I’m sure someone else who knows me well might be able to answer that.

    3. Do you like the way women are currently portrayed in the media? Why? Or why not? If no, how would you like to see it evolve?

Not really actually. They’re used to advertise things in a way that really isn’t necessary. It’s just some media idiots that have a degree in business analysis or some crap like that saying that it makes more money this way. Screw them.

    Hi,
The answers to Chloe’s (ALLISONS) question would be as follows:
1(i) The song would be ”Have i told you i ache for you”
1(ii) The scene would be when Chloe i.e you write the letter to Clark Kent AKA SUPERMAN.You take a chance for love.
1(iii)The dish would be your favorite since who cares about food when the world is coming to an end.

2.Social icon would be Jesus, because he changed the world for the better.(He was very social, trust me)

3.Women, now that a long long conversation. There is the good with the bad , with the occasional overdose of the bad, but if women are shown as powerful as you are on SMALLVILLE,i.e with a heart of gold and the power to MOVE MOUNTAINS. That would be nice to.
From your devoted fan for life.

i’d start by reading the ending of “Winter of our discontent” by John Steinbeck, i’d grab myself a green apple, and then watch the final scene of “The legend of 1900″, where 1900 chats with his dearest friend Max Tooney, and then end it all with the song “Pinta, Nina, Santa Maria (Into Eternity)” from Vangelis.

the social icon who inspired me most, well… probably he’s not that much of a social icon, but anyways… is Isaac Asimov. His true genius revealed a new world to me, from the point of view of his literature or his research.

And about your third question… most of the famous women tend to believe that looks and fabulous life means everything. lately i haven’t seen a band of girls, or a lead singer that won’t have stunning looks, but no talent at all… there are a few world wide women who indeed please the eye, with their grace, with their manner of handling their lives and all… most women these days try to make themselves known through any means possible, living by the concept, that even bad publicity is good.

    Once again, nice topics :)

    1) one song : most probably classical music (Vivaldi Largo or Bach/Gounod – Ave Maria sung by Bartoli or Keith Jarrett the Khöl concert or Bach Aria or the adagio from Albinoni… ). I think when you’ve heard that, you can leave this world feeling complete!!

    - One paragraph from a piece of literature : this is harder! why not something from Emile Zola. Or why not the end of Cyrano de Bergerac.
    - one scene from a movie : Schindler list ( the end when he realizes he could have saved more people. Just inverting).
    - one dish : of I can’t answer that! lol A french dessert but what? A fruit tart.

    2) social icon : one again, this is hard! lol that would be someone who showed us that, when you really want it and have the courage to act on it, one person can change many and by that, the world.Fortunately, some people have to show the way. Martin Luther King, Gandhi, but so many stay unknow…

    3) Women in the media : lol I see that for this question, most agrees. I don’t like the fact that we sell images instead of ideas. Some actresses or other wellknown women should use their image to show an example and try to change things because if those persons don’t, how could we in the shadow? All this “commercial stuff” around women is just business and that’s really not the best the world can offer us. How cares who’s the hottest woman of the year? This is totally irrelevant! Who can say what beauty is and who are we to judge? It makes us forget there are really more important things in life than “plastic icons”. I know that’s the film/modeling industry that wants that but if not so many people were interested in that, they wouldn’t do it. So I guess it’s our fault too. Fortunately, most women don’t degrade themselves and the “woman image” to such practices. Of course, I can still appreciate art photography that shows woman graciousness.

1.End of the world and you could only listen to one song, read one paragraph, stanza, or chapter from a piece of literature, watch one scene from a movie, and eat one more dish? What would they be?
Remy Zero “Save Me”, Romeo and Juliet, Smallville “Salvation”.

2.What social icon had the greatest impact on you and why?
Christopher Reeve, he never gave up even after his skiing accident.

3.Do you like the way women are currently portrayed in the media? Why? Or why not? If no, how would you like to see it evolve?
Sometimes, the strong, independant and smart women are the ones that are most like women in the real world.

    1) If i could only listen to one more song, it would be let me go by the 3 fold path. If i could only read one paragraph… it would be the quote on this home page. If I could only watch one scene it would be the end of Buffy when they are all looking out over what used to be. If I could only eat one more thing it would be a deep fried battered mars bar, cause hey gonna kick it anyway.
    2) This is gonna sound really lame but one social icon who has really had an impact on my life and who is an inspiration to me and helped me in some tough times is you.
    3) I think the media is really trying to change and not just portray women as skinny and blonde and stuff. A lot of people have been getting their opinions heard.

    Excellent questions!

    1) For my song I would probably have to choose “To Zanarkand” from Final Fantasy 10. It’s beautiful enough to where I mist up when I hear it. My last dish would be a slice of the cake that was made for my wedding. The excerpt I would end up choosing would be Philippians 3:7-11 (my favorite Bible passage). The movie clip question is hard. I would have to go with a TV show at this point: the end of Doctor Who, The End of Time.

    2) The typical social icons that people might choose aren’t really my thing. I guess that I would have to go with Jesus the Christ. He died for me (and you!). That’s a pretty big impact…

    3) The way that women have been portrayed in the media and within media actually kind of annoys me. There is this idea that women have to be shown as strong, independent individuals all the time. It’s unrealistic to do so to the extent that it has been. It’s cool to see smart, sexy women who are totally competent in every area and can ‘kick ass’… but how many women in real life are actually like that?

  • pulchritudinouslyugly

In the event of the world ending I would do what I always do when the world ends, make a new one. One social Icon who had a big effect on my life is this guy: http://www.ted.com/talks/sir_ken_robinson_bring_on_the_revolution.html
I neither like nor dislike the way women are portrayed in any way. Media (TV , news, movies) shouldn’t be concerned with how the audience feels about their portrayal of society anymore than society should feel concerned about how ants portray humanity. We need only be concerned with how we portray ourselves. If you think the media should change their perception of societal figures you’re giving the media more power than it deserves. If “media” is a reflection of society then however it portrays women is accurate, if this is not the case and media shapes society then caring about how “media” views us is giving a small minority with already too much influence just more ammo. If we all evolve in a way we like then “media” will naturally follow.
