Ask3Journey Round 3

What is your favorite childhood memory?
Jenny_1982

My favorite childhood memory? Dancing in my living room after dinner with my family! We would move all the furniture back and bust a move to Michael Jackson and Toni Braxton!

Who do you think has been the most influential woman in the entertainment industry within the last 20 years?
Dax

Oprah-that woman can endorse anything and the whole of North America would buy it! She is an incredible business woman and entrepeneur. I would love to know her.

Are there any scents that take you back to significant memories?
Ruthie

Yes, este lauder pleasures-my mom used to wear it and it always feels warm and cozy!

If a fan had the given chance to hang out with you for a day, what would you like to do with them?
Brittay

Hmmmm…..I would take them to yoga early in the morning, then for hike. Then we would go for a yummy breakfast at my favorite spot in the most hippy part of town. After that we would go our separate ways to clean up and take a moment, then meet up again for a lovely walk on the Seawall heading over to Granville Island and stopping in at some of my favorite art galleries along the way. A movie would definately be in order! Then off for a perfect dinner at one of my favorite restaurants, ending with sangria and flamenco at a wonderful little spainish joint!

This is if they would come to vancouver, of course!

New York and LA are 2 very different places.

1-Not so much what I want to do, but what I have to do as well. Lately I’m easily distracted by: A guy, and smallville coz i always want to watch it but i want to have time for a life too.
2-Oh my god there are so many things i would want to try to fit in. Maybe i could try a bit of everything and see how far i get through the list…is that cheating?
3-A scene from a tv show not a movie but anyway…a few scenes from ‘Charmed’:

Phoebe: (reading a book which is filled with deep profound questions) Okay, let’s see if I can find a really good one. (She puts on her glasses and opens up to a page in the book.) Okay, what if a building was on fire? Do you save five strangers or one sibling?
Prue: I thought that you said that these were hard questions. That’s easy, sibling.
    Piper: Of course.
    Phoebe: Ditto.

(during the episode Phoebe and Piper have to choose between saving Prue and saving the world and they learn that saving the world is more important than saving one of their own flesh and blood. somehow Prue survives anyway. i don’t remember how)

at the bar at the end of the episode:
Bartender: Everyone has to vote on this. What if a building was on fire? Do you save five strangers or one sibling?
    Prue, Piper, Phoebe: Five strangers.

  • Lily

What scene in a movie represents what you believe to be a true hero?
Every scene in which a person really listens to another person, truly cares, gives comfort, shares joy, tries to make someone happy, ….
Smallville…Chloe…she is definitely a hero and a true friend…she has taken countless risks and has made sacrifices for her family, friends and even the world. And, she is so real and human because she learns from her mistakes and she continues her journey. She is my inspiration and my hero :-)

  • jimbaird

“What do you feel distracts you most from doing what you want to do?”
Everything else I want to do. There are so many choices in life that is is easy to start a new project and forget an old one. Keeping my commitments is the hard part.

“If today was the last day of your life, how would you spend it?”
Having an enormous dive-in movie pool party with family and friends.

“What scene in a movie represents what you believe to be a true hero?”
I can’t think of any good movie examples, but I think true heroism is when you choose to do something that is difficult for the benefit of another (or others) with no personal gain, when your other option(s) is easier and directly benefits you, and when no one will ever know what you did.

What do you feel distracts you most from doing what you want to do? I would have to say others. I tend to drop everything to help someone else do what they want to do.

If today was the last day of your life, how would you spend it?

I have often wondered about this question..I guess it depends if I knew it was my last day or not. I try not to let things go un-said (good or bad).

What scene in a movie represents what you believe to be a true hero?

Behind Enemy Lines, when he goes back to get the photo thingy from the planes seat, so that the deaths of so many people could receive justice & so his friend didn’t die for nothing. I wish I could be deeper.

  • http://matt724.wetpaint.com IreneT

You know, I guess if it was my last day, I would do what Jesus did. I would spend it praying for everyone I know, and for those that I wish I knew & will be able to see in the next life.

  • Jade Ruby

    IreneT Says:
“I would spend it praying for everyone I know, and for those that I wish I knew & will be able to see in the next life.”

Wow, what a great idea. I’ve found it useful to use The Lord’s Prayer as a meditative aid, I also use it to pray for others.

    1. What do you feel distracts you most from doing what you want to do? Television, and the like — I spend way to much time in front of the tube.

    2. If today was the last day of your life, how would you spend it? Spending it with my family and friends, the people who I love the most.

    3. What scene in a movie represents what you believe to be a true hero? The only thing I can think of off the top of my head is the end of Superman: Returns. Who can argue with that one, eh?

  • Robin

Some very good questions and answers guys!

    1. My biggest distraction…is myself I guess, in not having a clear enough image of who I am and the type of person I want to be.
I get caught up in other people’s lives and live vicariously through them, and yet at times I do not seem to have clear enough goals or rather being able to visualise the significant steps to get there, like we all know sometimes you can’t see the forest for the trees…

    2. Taking my dog a very early morning walk, a full english breakfast, a long walk in the countryside …stopping at a pub for a pint of lager and lunch (Roast beef and yorkshire puddings…yum), a train ride to London to see an afternoon matinee of a play (probably comedy/drama), a walk around the streets and parks before eating at an italian restaurant (i love pasta) before a cab ride to my local cinema to see the latest film and coming home to be greetedmy gorgeous dog Roxy for a late evening walk…and being able to share the day enjoying the company with family and friends.

3.Gung Ho (1986) Michael Keaton’s character Hunt Stevenson trying to save his home town by agreeing to an impossible deal to save everyone’s jobs and being a hero in admitting he lied to the town and doing his best to work with another community and show by working together people can achieve things…

    12 Angry men (1957)

Henry Fonda convinces a biast jury of a wronly accused defendant, a real lesson in keeping an open mind and how each of us interprets facts.

    Angels with Dirty Faces (1938)

James Cagney and Pat O’Brien a priest asks for harned criminal to forgoe his street cred to be an example to young kids in showing how a life of crime is not glamerous and on going to the electric chair the character begins to sob and cry begging not to die…

  • william

    1. myself: Sometimes you want to do someing and should but a different part of you wants to do the exact opposite.

2.I would wake up earlier than usual (lol),
eat my favorite meals for breakfeast, lunch, and dinner (at there times of course) I would get all the people I love together and spend the day with them, spending my last few hours with the few I love the most. bed time: 11:59:59

3.I think when jack dies for rose in the titanic.

  • Robert

    (1) “What do you feel distracts you from doing what you want to do?”
I would say the necessity of having to work and make money, it leaves very little time for other pursuits. (Though I still try.)

    (2) “If today was the last day of your life how would you spend it?”
I would attempt to repair those relationships which were lost due to bad decision making, then afterward spend my last remaining hours with my family.

    (3) “What scene in a movie represents what you believe to be a true hero?”
There are many scenes in the film BackDraft which I could describe, but I guess the one that really springs to mind is where Kurt Russell walks out of the burning room holding a child on his hip.

  • Beth

    That’s a good one William.
I also like the one from Hancock Jade.

“What do you feel distracts you most from doing what you want to do?”
My need to make money for college. It makes it so I can’t just do something spontaneous.
“If today was the last day of your life how would you like to spend it?”
I would just hang out with friends and family and go for one last hike.
“What scene in a movie represents what you believe to be a true hero?”
Dante’s Peak (1997) Harry Dalton knows that if he goes up the mountain to get the two children and their grandmother he might not make it out in time and die himself. He was willing to sacrifice his life for some people he only knew for a week or two.

  • Electra

What do you feel distracts you most from doing what you want to do?
    - Those things that are represented by those stones in my way… but I’ll take them, I’ll take them all. Well, at least I try.

If today was the last day of your life, how would you spend it?
    - I’d work through my bucket list – my list about those things I want to do before I kick the bucket. Well, at least as far as possible. Furthermore I’d close my matters resp. try to come to terms with all my affairs in order to find my peace of mind…..But first of all I’d throw a huge pie in someone’s face and laugh about this sight till I cry. :-D

What scene in a movie represents what you believe to be a true hero?
    - Can’t think of a special scene right now. So I’d say… the selfless ones without pride.

To imagine everything through a child’s eyes is to live life as an adventure. Nothing is what it seems to be; the trees swaying in the wind are not trees at all but performers dancing to Bob Marley, the skyscrapers lining the New York streets are soldiers marching through Iraqi soil looking past those who did not survive. Our world is nothing but a metaphor created in order to make life worth living. If we woke up everyday at six in the morning, showered, brushed our teeth, combed our hair, and drove off to work for a good seven hours then went home for the rest of the night how exciting would life be? Looking at our usual routine does not appeal to me. What if we made the best of what we have by viewing the ordinary as a child does? My morning shower is not a shower at all but a rain storm in the Caribbean where I fight for survival. Brushing my teeth is a battle against giant monsters trying to attack my home. And driving to work in Batman’s amazing Bat-mobile only takes five minutes. Sometimes our imaginations need a child’s high in order to get us through the day, by changing the ordinary to extraordinary can make life worth living.

I wrote this after reading your latest blog.
    Thank you for the inspiration.

P.S. My Question to You is. What you recommend to a virst time visitor to Vancouver?? My friend and i are embarking on our first road trip..

  • Jade Ruby

Allison, what media do you like best, stage, television, or film? And how come?

  • http://www.chloesullivansite.com/ Bouroux

    1) taking care of your french site and surfing on the net to find informations about Smallville, films and your futures projects.
    2) Stay with my family, swimming or skiing and watch the best scenes of Chloe.
    3) A lot of scenes of Chloe and Clark.
    It’s an heroic freindship.

  • Dax

First off…Thank you Allison for taking the time to anwser my question…

1)What do you feel distracts you most from doing what you want to do?

I would say that probably my insecurity about failing is probably the biggest thing that distracts me from accomplishing what I want to do sometimes. It is more in my personal life then anything else. I have so much confidence with my professional career but I have a major fear of failing when it comes to my personal life and relationships. Fear of not being a good enough daughter, friend or partner and I know that it absolutely keeps me from doing the things I want to do sometimes…Guessed I shared a lot with this anwser…

    2) If today was the last day of your life, how would you spend it?

Simply put…I would spend that time with the people I love most. It would be hard tho, looking at all the people I love in my life…knowing that single day, those few hours and minutes would be the last time in this life I would ever see them…As intriguing of a question as this is Allison…I truely hope I never have to experience this question in reality.

    3) What scene in a movie represents what you believe to be a true hero?

Well, that’s a hard one. I recently saw Schindler’s List for the very first time ( a movie that deserved my veiwing a long time ago, I might add ), and I think that I would have to say that he was definately a true representation of a hero in every sense of the word. This incredible person risked everything, including his life, to help save as many lives as he could. The courage it takes to literally put your own life on the line to save another is the ultimate definition of what a hero is, and Schindler did that without pause…in both reality and on film. I think the most touching part of that movie to me was at the end when Schindler broke down into tears over how the material possesions he still had could have bought more live…holding up a watch and saying that this was worth 2 more live and then breaking down into tears over why he didn’t save more. Even after all the good he did, he still thought he hadn’t done enough…what an amazing and enlightening movie…If more people were like Schindler…our world would truely be a better place…

  • Beth

That’s an interesting question Jade. I was just talking with friends about that last week a uni. We gave ratings to four different types of entertainment: soaps, sitcoms, dramas and stage shows.

  • Jade Ruby

They won’t do “live” television, that is either filmed in front of a studio audience as a stage-play. Or, once again broadcasting live in prime time. The last I believe was that sitcom Roc, with Charles Dutton. (Who performed a great one man show of August Wilson’s works here last year.)

  • Jade Ruby

Ok, “Goodnight Mr. Wilson” was 2 years ago. Heh.

  • http://jbingermany.blogspot.com Rebecca

What do you feel distracts you most from doing what you want to do?
Perfectionism and pride lead to fear of failure- and that prevents me from reaching for the things I honestly want in life. Sometimes it’s easier to succeed at things that don’t actually matter to me, because they are easy and make me feel busy and useful- but they’re not what I truly feel I’m supposed to do with my life.

If today was the last day of your life, how would you spend it?
I’d want to be at the island my extended family has visited each summer since my birth. All day I would stay with my family and friends, talking and laughing, playing games and reminiscing. But at dusk I would sit by the ocean and allow myself, my thoughts, to drift away with the tide.

What scene in a movie represents what you believe to be a true hero?
The entirety of “A Mighty Heart” shows heroism, and Marianne Pearl is a remarkable woman. Angelina Jolie portrayed her well, but I think the most amazing thing is that you don’t see Angelina when you watch that film- you see Marianne. The whole thing is uplifting and heartbreaking and sublime.

  • Just_Will

Hi Allison, and everyone. I believe there are so many distractions. I probably get in my own way more than I like to admit. I have a really hard time letting go of the past. I hold on to a life that just isn’t there anymore. I know its not very original but letting go is definetly easier said than done.
The last day of my life….I would watch the sunrise, eat my favorite foods, spend my day with the people I most care about letting them know exactly what they meant to my life. I would definetly end up on the beach watching the sunset….
I’m not sure if anyone said this but in I am legend when he sacrifices himself to save the other two in the safe and get the cure out…..

  • Lene in SA

    1. My friends and family. I tend to worry about them allot when they are going through a really rough patch. When I don’t have to worry about them I tend to daydream allot…most of the time….ok all the time.

    2. I’ll go bungee jumping! It’s something I always wanted to do. After that I’ll sell everything I own and donate the money to the Cancer foundation. I won’t have to tell anyone how much I care about them since I do that all the time. So I’ll just die in peace knowing that I will change seven people’s lives because I’m a registered organ donar.

    3. Hmmm…It’s not in a movie but in a book. It’s called “Die Uile” wich in english meens “The OWlS” It’s about a group of friends that always somehow end up in sittuations where somebody is breaking the law and they help bring them to justice. And so these friends inlist to join the army and there was this one guy who kept picking on them and messing with them. It was a real tough guy routine. Anyway one of this guys friends threw a grenade between the guys he kept picking on and he jumped in between them on the grenade. Of course everyone flew up to get away and when the grenade didn’t exploid the guy that threw it said it was fake. He walked over to help his friend up and saw that his friend was dead. He knocked his head on a rock and a blood vessel in his brain exploded. Anyway the point I’m traying to make is that even though he picked on these guys he was willing to give his life for them, since he didn’t know that it was a fake grenade. That in my opinion is a true hero.

    Rebecca Says:
“Perfectionism and pride lead to fear of failure-”
    Just_Will Says:
“I have a really hard time letting go of the past. . . but letting go is definitely easier said than done.”

These attributes I can definitely relate to. However, one thing for me is that my past continues to follow me wherever I go.

  • Jade Ruby

    Well. . .
As for books? One of the stories that goes past the idea of a clear heroine, and gets down into how love and hate becomes mired in the human brain, is the story, “Phantom of Kansas” by John Varley. In it, the protagonist “clone” has to battle for her life as a computer artist, when she finds out that the clones before her that shared her same memory, were murdered–and she was the next target.

This story should have already been on the big screen, but the powers that be have passed it up. . . so far. I think that this short story, or even “Ophiuchi Hotline” the novel, should be reconsidered as material for the big screen.

Hi John if you’re reading this! :)

    Hi Allison
    Hey I didn’t see this
What do you feel distracts you most from doing what you want to do?

I don’t know, seeing that she is so far away and you can just run up and kiss her gently on the lips. Stupid geographical location haaaaa such a distraction umm

If today was the last day of your life, how would you spend it?

I wouldn’t worry, knowing I am going to a great place and I hopefully did everything that lord wills. I guess I would spend it with the people I love and the people that love me the most. They would want to see me the most and experience everything with me until the end. Well I guess a physical death don’t feel I will truly taste death haa

What scene in a movie represents what you believe to be a true hero?

There are many heroes I would love to assimilate myself to in the movies. I guess the big ones haa, it’s really hard to narrow it down. Whether male or female I guess the ones that did the right thing no matter what even if it killed them. I really don’t know there are so many traits that make up a hero a lot of ambiguity. I guess that’s one trait.

    -Jesse

What do you feel distracts you most from doing what you want to do?
-> I would say I am my own worst enemy. I do think you can do anything if you really give it your all and persevere. If there is something I wanna do, and I haven’t done it, then I would say it’s my inhibitions that stop me. Either that or lack of money lol.

If today was the last day of your life, how would you spend it?
-> With my family and loved ones, people I cared for most, atone for past worngs. Tell the people i cared most for how i feel.

What scene in a movie represents what you believe to be a true hero?
-> In the film “Armageddon”, starring Bruce Willis and Liv Tyler. When Bruce Willis shoves Ben Afleck back into the space shuttle so he can marry his daughter and they can be happy – meaning Willis is the one to stya behind to set off the bomb and save the world! Legend!

  • Pablo

If today was the last day of your life, how would you spend it?

I would rise very early, to see the dawn. Then, it would walk by the city, observing people. I would buy an enormous branch of white roses and I would give one to him to each woman who crossed itself in my way, with a smile and a flattery. Soon I would go to the park to see play the children, to see laugh them. In afternoon, I would try to walk by I graze barefoot, feeling the grass under my feet. Then, before the dusk it would direct, me to the sea, to contemplate to the decline and the exit of first stars. I would cry by that they do not know to enjoy the life and, finally, would lay down to me on the sand, facing stars hoping the end.
