on March 11, 2008 at 8:24 pm

on March 11, 2008 at 8:59 pm
Yeah I happen to have the same Question….
Are you able to go to the April event or will you have to cancel due to Smallville coming back ?
on March 11, 2008 at 10:45 pm
Wow. . . I was trying to start an A Cappella group when I was in college. Ten guys singing A Cappella arrangements of well known songs. But alas, it didn’t come together. Y’know, the rigors of college life kinda stole from rehearsal time.
Oh well. . . so awesome that you’re getting into it though! I’d love to go to the A Cappella Innovations, but Albany’s quite the trip from New York. And production will be starting on my short film by that time. Oh well. Hope everyone enjoys it!
on March 11, 2008 at 11:30 pm
I wish I could go because I love it.
A cappella singing is so beautiful and pure.
Please tell us about it, post pictures and YouTube videos afterwards.
Thanks for sharing this YouTube video with us.

A Capella! Originally an Italian word.. 🙂 (I’m half Italian) I’ve been enjoying a capella songs on youtube all day!
on March 12, 2008 at 3:02 pm
I’ll have to look up “A Cappella” again. It doesn’t necessarily mean “without musical accompaniment.” What the heck, I’ll do it now.
Here’s what I found:
Musicologists have fun debating the extent to which a cappella, “in the style of the chapel,” can include instrumental accompaniment. Some argue that early sacred a cappella performances would sometimes include instruments that double a human voice part. So, the correct definition of a cappella should be something like “singing without independent instrumental accompaniment.”
At Primarily A Cappella, we are trying to popularize this style of music, so we like to keep it simple.
a cappella – two words, two “p’s”, two “l’s.”
singing without instruments
Those of you who are serious singers may say, “my voice is my instrument!” True. But will the general public understand the meaning of “singing without other instruments?” Or the more cumbersome, “singing without non-vocal instruments?”

Very cool; sounds fun.

The festival back in December was a blast!!! Simply Human was amazing!!! It was also neat hearing Housejacks perform, and although they will not be there in April, I understand they would like to comeback if there is another festival in December this year.
I have still not heard anything back from the egg in regards to tickets/specific schedules.
I look forward to seeing you there Allison!! 🙂

Some seriously talented people there.
on March 13, 2008 at 7:19 am
Actually, a cappella being “in the style of the chapel” and yet not including any musical instruments whatever is absolutely correct.
Musical instruments weren’t introduced into religious ceremonies or worship until around the 4th century. And that caused such a divide in the church(es) of that time, that it was highly controversial – and continues to be today.
I lead singing at my church and it is a cappella. Although we don’t make rhythmic sounds or other accompaniment other than singing the soprano, alto, tenor, and bass parts, it is still an excellent thing to hear – and when you get enough people together, it is even better.
But I am glad that festivals like this do occur, and are supported by people with similarly amazing talent like Allison.
on March 13, 2008 at 12:14 pm
Oh! I like a capella very much. It’s so beautiful when voices sounds without any accompaniment of musical instrument!

A cappella… yeah, we also hv it in here… never hear it “live”, but im sure it’s awesome… music, aren’t we all love it..??
on March 19, 2008 at 2:27 pm
I adore the art in all of its expressions. There’s no word to express how much I love it. On this occasion, the A Capella is something new for me; I got to know about it, some months ago, thanks to your blog. But, hitherto I haven’t had the opportunity to be present at a similar show in my town.
I suppose that I must be missing a huge experience, an art that makes Kristin and you talk with such emotion has to be very interesting! Honestly, you carry the feeling to a new level, I felt very impressed when I saw the way that it makes your precious eyes shine and when I sensed that huge emotion that glitters with each word you say. It would be awesome to feel the same when I go to an A Capella, maybe the only way is to go with you.
Bye Alli 😀

I know this isn’t the right place to post this, but I ordered a calendar and a head shot jan 4th. Have only received the calendar. I emailed someone about it feb 24th ish, they responded that I was forgotten, sorry and its on its way. Now, being a month later, I emailed again asking if there was any news on whether its been shipped or if I should just ask for my money back. that was a week or so ago. still have heard nothing. I know people are busy. And things are probably hectic. Just trying to figure either, if its on its way, or who I need to talk to get my money back. 3 months is a long time to wait for 80 bucks I spent on what seems like ages ago. no disrespect intended, just need a push in the right direction. so I can figure out whats going on. thank you.

I don’t think the term “Doo-Wop” is politically correct anymore!

This is not relevant to this post, but I just wanted to tell you that your “I love your son” speech (to Jor-El) in the most recent episode was an AMAZING piece of acting. It was perhaps one of the best moments of the season. I’m in awe of your talent as an actor and your ability to convey emotion through face and voice in really bringing this character to life and making us believe every moment of it – especially the emotionally filled scenes.
I like reading your blog alot but I absolutely love watching you work.

Ha! what a coincidence.
I’m just finishing up writing a way too long paper for one of my masters classes on Contemporary A cappella, like the kind at the event you hosted. It truely is such an interesting and special music all to itself. The paper brought up the issues of catagorizing and assigning this type of music an accurate term to discribe it so that it can continue to grow in both the economic and academic worlds. Not that you care about all that but it was really interesting to find something I’ve spent so much time thinking about is something you’re interested in too.

Just want to thank you for your recommendation on the A Cappella concert. Myself and two friends made the short ride from NYC to Albany on Saturday night. We all really enjoyed it. I was amazed at the talents of those artists and wonder about the moment they realized that they could be a “beat box” or play “mouth trumpet”. How does that happen? My roomie/friend, Emily, said that it was a life changing experience and My buddy, Ray, fell in love with the vocals of Denise Reis.
Afterward we each purchased CD’s and between us got all four available. I adored the teenage dirtbag song.
It was great to see you live and in the flesh, though my friends and I sat up top. You and your co-host did a great job keeping things flowing as well.
And finally please thank your friend, Christine, who we met walking to the car.(She asked how I found out about the festival, I mentioned your blog) She pointed us in the direction of Lark street where we had a nice dinner before driving back to the city. We like road trips
We had a fabulous night, thank you for bringing this wonderful art form to light.
-Best of everything
