“The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and all science. He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead: his eyes are closed.”

~ Albert Einstein

What a beautiful beautiful quote! I had to think one moment about it before I realized the profound truth in it.

I have a little 4 year old daughter and with her I have learned a new way to go through life and see things from a different perspective. Children see the mysterious in so small things that for us adults are just normal. For example a butterfly on a beautiful flower or the first flowering plants in spring. Thanks to her I enjoy those small things again and it’s awesome to see how beautiful this world is when you stop for a moment and just have look around you. In these moments I feel more alive than ever before!

“Reality divided by reason always leaves a remainder. After everything has been said about the universe, after the entire world has been transformed on the basis of scientific knowledge into a hierarchical structure of ever-widening systems, we are still invariably left with a profound sense of mystery.”

I love that quote. It’s really beautiful. I love the feelings of curiosity that can overwhelm us when we experience anything interesting that we don’t understand. To me, i think it is the possibility of the unknown that gives me the rush and makes me wonder and want to know more. Life is full of so many questions. That’s part of what drives me through all my experiences. Knowing that there are so many unanswered questions and unveiled mysteries.

    Hi Allison.
When I read this quote I immediately thought of Chloe. The evolution of Chloe during the last 10 years has been inspired by the curiosity of the inexplicable. The human being is an endless source of mystery. Just open your eyes and use them to enrich our lives every day.
My wife and I started making chocolates in recent months. In fact, what seemed very mysterious is actually quite simple and really delicious.
Here are 3 chocolates very simple to do.
A layer of dark chocolate mint, a layer of white chocolate and sprinkle it cane Christmas crushed mint.
Dark chocolate and orange with crushed rice krispies
White chocolate with crushed Oreo cookie.
Just buy the pellets of dark chocolate, white, the aroma of mint, orange and chocolate molds.
This is the kind of creativity that must be used carefully.
To return to Chloe, I really liked her evolution and the fact that she decided to think about her and never tried to save the world. She deserves to be happy. Clark and Oliver are really lucky to have her as friend.

Thanks for this – I am always on the look out for an inspirational science quote for my work e-mail sig-file. (I am a medical physicist by trade.)

To me the most mysterious is what many take for granted, consciousness. It is truly fascinating to be able and step back every once and a while and observe the “myself” and the body with its thoughts that I reside in.

In the winter my eyes always turn to the sky to note Orion, and Taurus (my sign). That’s another thing I have done for quite a while. I quite fondly remember looking up to the night sky and imagining taking off from Earth and flying toward a star just like Superman. Then I got older and started to imagine getting lost being surrounded by small points of light, as well as the one I had been concentrating on as I flew. 😉

It’s cool that the make-over has brought some of the old-timers back – hopefully the discussions will be longer, deeper and even more rewarding in future!

One of my Favorite Einstein quotes…along with

Another quote I love by him was ” I do not know what weapons will be fought with in WW3, but I do know WW4 will be fought with sticks and stones.”
    That always made me wonder.
